Agree no sandbagging. I was really proud of the young lions last night. I thought they played extremely hard. Couple of costly turnovers probably did them in. I thought our defense was really solid and I saw some freshmen, especially #3, making some plays. I really thought our line played solid considering they are small and young. We have to get some help offensively for our QB. He is a beast but can’t do it all by himself. I thought the backup wildcat runner #10 did a really good job giving #4 a breather. Also thought our backup freshman QB looked good. He has a nice touch on his passes. Our kicking game will get better and better as time goes on. Give Adamsville credit! They got it done. Best wishes to them the rest of the season. It was good to see a lot of old friends last night. Plunk kid for Aville is a great player. I probably know his dad. Also very impressed with the McCormick kid on defense!

Buddy Garrity will be there in rare form! BigEdmo, do you think they will have a parking spot for Buddy?

Losing those 4 seniors really hurt us considering one was our QB and best player last year. Coach Butler will have them ready but he can only do so much. We told our boys to be ready for a hard hitting game because that’s how they play down in the Ville! Some great games from ‘09 to 18! 6-6 was the record. Good rivalry. Sounds like some sour grapes to me! I played at MCHS from 80-84 on the boys team and saw first hand how good a coach Jerry was. His record stands for itself and it makes no sense to dispute it. He doesn’t have a state championship but most don’t. As Trader said, once he retires we will see how easy it is for the next coach to average 20.

Winning 20 games year after year may be harder than winning a state championship. That’s a major accomplishment! Some years the talent won’t be there and that makes it more difficult to average 20.

I don’t think he’s ever had that special team with all the key components. He’s had good post play but not great guards. He’s had great guards and not very good post play. He’s had great defensive teams that weren’t great offensive teams and vice versa. Winning a state championship is rare. Not many coaches have a ring. 800 wins is elite no matter if you win a state championship or not. Did you graduate from MCHS in ‘83?

881 wins does stack up. That’s over 20 wins per season. Lots of coaches would love to have that record. You have to have a special team to win it all. I know that because we had a special team last year at TCA and we won it all. May not ever happen again.

I think this ends up being a close game as well. If USJ keeps it close through 3 quarters, I think they have a chance to win it. If DA wins I don’t think it will be by more than 10. USJ is hungry and DA better be ready! If USJ gets behind by two TD’s in the third I think DA will grind it out and use up the clock. Good luck to both teams!

Private schools in Memphis are about to explode with athletes! The public school kids will find a place to play sports and those private schools will welcome them. It’s already happening. One of the privates in Jackson has already picked up a really good basketball player. Shelby Co better get it figured out soon!

31-28 USJ. FG wins it!

Leading scorer for Lions was Kramer with 18. The Trio mentioned scored 38 which is great BUT the Lions got 38 points from the others. If the others produce half of that per game they will be a handful every game. The Trio are going to be fun to watch over the next three years. Huntingdon is a very good team with a lot of talent. I expect they will be in the mix in Single A before it’s all over. They have an excellent coach.

After seeing both teams play I was giving USJ a 2 TD edge before I found out about #1. If he’s out the entire game I think this is a toss up. I believe he’s that much of a difference maker, especially on special teams. I think a key advantage USJ will have is the use of Seals at TE. Big time weapon. DCA is the most disciplined team I have seen and they fly to the ball on defense better than any team I’ve seen. I don’t think their tailback will be able to run the ball like he has against other teams this year. USJ’s D is pretty stout. If it’s tight and comes down to a FG I think that’s easily USJ’s advantage. It would not surprise me if DCA wins but I’m still going with USJ by a FG. Will be a heck of a ball game to watch.

Funny thing BigEd is that none of us are predicting a win over DCA. Heck, They are 10-0, we are 6-4 and we don’t have the athletes from years past. We have some really good athletes and one great athlete but not the volume of great athletes. We are the underdog and are supposed to lose. We’re just happy to be there. In 2014, we were ranked number 1 in the state in 2A public division and was 10-1. We were supposed to win the state. Got upset in round 2 by Peabody who went on to win it all. It can happen. If TCA lays it all out and plays like it’s their last game ever you never know what could happen.

BIGEdMo, he must be the guy from Kings last year who was whining when we whipped their tail in the girls state championship game! Haha

TCA’s starting RB and starting blocking back were out against Grace. Those two are also the teams leading tacklers. I think the outcome would have been a little different with those two. You keep referring to “only” scored X against a young Grace D. Might be good to know all the facts first. If you sit two top players from any II-A school you’re going to be impacted. Does that mean that I’m predicting TCA over DCA? No. It just means TCA is better than what you saw or heard on Friday. DCA won’t beat USJ, DA, or NCS.

I think Nashville Christian is the only team that can challenge Davidson. NC is a different team than they were early in the season. I don’t know much about DCA, maybe they could challenge but I doubt they will get past USJ.

I watched online and it appeared TCA brought some pressure and kept the QB on the move all night. JC QB is dangerous when they fake the jet sweep and he goes backdoor. TCA is a completely different team with the QB change and Wildcat formation. Goodwin has found his home as a RB. He’s an outstanding runner when he’s playing RB. Very similar to 2015 team with Goldsmith at QB. Not quite as good as 2015 team but a lot of similarities.
