  1. Other than Britcliffe at practice, I don't think he wrestled out of 103 at all this year. And I agree, it will be tough for him. He will definitely need to hit the weights and add 9 good pounds of muscle
  2. I didn't ask and won't but if Coach hears, I wouldn't be surprised if they will be taught a lenghty and sweat filled lesson in sportsmanship.
  3. Actually 4 Coach. 135 (Hunt), 140 (Speroff), 152 (Cullen) and 275 (Lindow) Congratulations to Andy, Brandon and Luke. As I said in an earlier post, Brandon may be your next State Champ. He exploded onto the state scene at the tournament and made an impression on a lot of people. thumb
  4. I confirmed with my son today and he said that there were a couple of Collierville wrestlers who did take their shirts off. I did not see it and they should hope Coach Cottrell doesn't hear about it either. We are extremely proud of Kent, our first State Champion but would not want that overshadowed by unsportsman like behavior. Our kids are taught to win and lose with dignity.
  5. Bradley is about 185 and has more body fat than Brett. He dominated in middle school this year but will need a year of JV before he will break into a starting role. I think Brett would be an awesome wrestler at HW if he could add 25lbs in the weightroom and get to about 235-240. No way can Kent stay at 103. He struggled all year including last Saturday moring weigh ins. He will take over your old spot at 112. Whatever happens, we expect to contend again. We lose four seniors but have quality back up ready to go!!
  6. I can appreciate your opinions but please get your facts straight. Collierville had a contingent of about 45 made up of wrestlers, parents , mat girls and coaches. I can assure you that no Collierville fans or athletes took their shirts off or flipped anyone off as you stated. Coach Cottrell is a disciplinarian and would never stand for this. I will say that we were very enthusiastic while cheering on our first ever state champion and I will admit, the win coming against the most dominant team in the state and a rematch from a loss at State duals certainly made it that much sweeter. Please do not desecrate our program by pulling us into this rivalry Bradley has with Clarksville. As for the Bradley fans, I will admit that I noticed the polite applause given to the winners of the two finals that Bradley lost. However, I would also witnessed that with the exception of Bond Davis losing at 160, some of the loudest cheers in the building came from your section when Franklin lost in either the semis or finals, especially Kirn. I hope the intent was not actually to cheer the Franklin kids losses but rather cheer because it was such a tight race for the team title you were chasing??
  7. Coach, Collierville had a group of about 45 including wrestlers and I believe we were cheering just about as loud for your kids as we were our own. Of course we also cheered for the Cordova, Bartlett, Ridgeway, Germantown and Brighton kids but because our two schools are so close in proximity, I think it creates a rivalry during the season and a special bond during the state tournament. As for rivals cheering against each other as in the case of Bradley and Franklin, you have to remember that they were both chasing the team title and each loss in the finals by the rival meant the other team was that much closer to winning. The Baylor fans are certainly loud and there are a lot of them but they they never came close to the noise that was generated when Kent Johnson pinned Randolph of Bradley in the 103 finals. It seemed like the entire side opposite the Bradley fans erupted. I know that was a special feeling for Kent to hear that. Thanks to all the Region 8 fans for the support shown to our kids thumb
  8. Johnson pinned him. Can't remember the time. He will face Randolph in a rematch from the State duals.
  9. Actually he holds a second spot behind Ryan Cullen so he didn't get a full season of Varsity. He got the chance to bump to 160 and 171 a few times and had about a .500 record overall. His goal is to take the 160 spot next year. We are leaving today for Chatt. to support all the kids from Colliervile and the rest of Region 8. I'm sure you will hear us!
  10. Coach, The look on his face didn't say minor sprain, it said major pain! I've got to give Uri credit, he gutted it out and took the region. I'm sure he resting and will have no problems with the injury this week-end. I think Uri and Brett have wrestled each other just twice this year and split with both matches decided by a point or two. They both have a chance to do very well this week end. Good luck to both.
  11. No, we didn't meet however I was there from the first match on Friday until the award presentations on Saturday. I have read many of your recent posts and can tell that you are very knowledgable and have a love for this sport. I assume you wrestled for SBA? Do you coach now? I am actually new to the sport. I grew up playing B-ball and used to laugh at the kids running the bleachers in their foil suits to make weight. I never realized the effort these kids put in until my son started wrestling three years ago. I have a new found respect for the sport and I'm a huge fan.
  12. Nick dominates his opponents like nobody else. His match may very well be over by the time D1 is just getting interesting! Are you with me on Kent @ 103?
  13. Coming out of region 8, I don't get to see a lot of these guys wrestle however we do travel to the mid-state area 4-5 times a year and have been at the state duals the last 3 so this is not a complete shot in the dark. Kent Johnson (Coll) is on the weaker side of the 103 bracket and should have an easier time than Randolph getting to the final. If they do meet Kent will win. Randolph beat a very flu weakened Johnson on Friday night at state duals 9-2 but Johson is fully recovered and should be Collierville's first state champion. Barnett (Germantown) 145 will wear gold TJ Hannah is a very good wrestler at 145 where he was all year. My personal opinion is that he wanted a region title as a Senior but couldn't get it done at 145 against Barnett so he bumped. I don't think he can hang with the best 152's out there and may not even place. Borneman will take 160. I believe his only losses this year are to Nick Marable from D2 CBHS. I don't know if he has met Davis this year and feel free to correct me on the losses if I'm wrong. 215- Lettner lost twice at State duals. Once to Rogers (Coll) and also to Weakley (Clarksville) bumping up from 189. Weakley's at 189 again and not saying Rogers will win but not Lettner. Watch Uri Hanson of Ridgeway. Stewart Allen from Cordova will take 275
  14. Thanks for clearing that up coach thumb
  15. Thanks for the clarification however I'm still a little confused. I understand that the #1 seed from region takes on the #4 seed from another but in addition to this, are the wrestlers also seeded 1 through 32 within the bracket? If I were to look at a kid in the middle of a bracket, could I tell where he was seeded? Thanks,
  16. Can someone please help me understand the state brackets. Is the top name in the upper bracket the #1 and the last name in the upper bracket #4? In the bottom bracket is the top name #3 and the bottom name #2? If possible, could someone list the seed of each position in the brackets from top to bottom. Thanks!
  17. Brandon must have had tinted contacts in as the bright singlet didn't seem to give Ben an advantage
  18. I'd have to agree with you, that was one of the most exciting matches. The fact that the other matches had ended allowed the entire audience to be focused on the match. The Collierville contingent was yelling for your wrestler as well and were happy with the outcome as Cordova was on our heels in team points. Both kids made it a great match but Bartlett was just a little better that night. thumb
  19. If you read my post just a little more carefully you'll see that I said the upset was in the Consolation Semi's. He was pinned by the kid from Brighton, Ashton Johjson. Speroff was clearly in control, made a mistake and it cost him. I think everyone in the gym who is close to Region 8 wrestling would agree that it was an upset. Shawn has been an awesome wrestler for four years but making the jump from 119/125 last year to 140 this year was too much. He had however beaten the 3rd place (Brighton) and 4th place (Germantown) wrestlers in every other meeting. Although I was not happy to see Shawn lose, I was very happy for Ashton Johnson. He really looked like he wanted it. Now to your wrestler Brandon Wright. That kid is a stud at 140. He deserved the championship and I think he has a great chance to bring Houston a State Championship in the next couple of years. I think he is one of the top 3 best young wrestlers in the Region. I'll look forward to watching.
  20. Dragon 12, Here's the quick run down for our guys. 103 - 1st 112 - 2nd 119 - 1st 125 - 2nd 130 - 4th 135 - 1st 140 - 145 - 4th 152 - 2nd 160 - 4th 171 - 189 - 4th 215 - 2nd HW - 3rd
  21. Dragons send 12! Only holes were 140 and 171. Our 140 (one of your former teammates) was upset in the consolation semi's. 171 lost last night, won first two today and then lost in the consolation semi's. Don't know the exact number but I'm guessing Ridgeway and Cordova are both sending 7 or 8.
  22. Borneman got Ow for Region 8, 171 from Bolton got OW for tournament. All three wins by first period pins.
  23. 12 of 13 dragons wrestle and win. 215 got a double bye straight to semi's. Only loss was a close one at 171 with 4 seed from Kingsbury. Only other unseeded dragon (160) beat the 4 seed 8 - 1. Looking good for tomorrow.
