  1. I understand your point. I watched Livingston's middle school playing their starters against Cornerstone a few weeks ago even though they were in the mercy rule at the half. The Hayes kid was still running the ball and trying to score with less than a minute left and he went down with a leg injury. Think it ended up being a cramp or something minor but it could have been serious and he makes their team. They would have been seriously handicapped if he was out - stupid when you are already up by 40. I'm not sure why Upperman would leave York in if the game has been decided. I know Ben Herron doesn't give a crap about anyone's personal stats or achievements. He just wants to win games.
  2. I think a lot of teams who have had success in the past few years have forgotten that they weren't always so great. I don't get the hostility toward Upperman though. If Cannon suddenly turned things around, I would be happy for them - same for any other school in our district. Can't figure out why the Bees have so many haters.
  3. Heard the jv team went and played sc on Monday and won by several TDs. Surprised me because they got killed in scrimmages at ckvl and Sparta. This was their first game though. Gordonsville and Monterey both canceled for the first two jv games. There is no doubt that they will be down next year though.
  4. Really? Because I saw Todd Stanton playing QB in that game. Don't know if the JV ever scored but they did play. Maybe they were scared Gordonsville was going to make a last minute comeback since their players had spent weeks tweeting about how they were going to kill Upperman and it wouldn't even be a challenge for them. Upperman loses everyone this year, so I'm sure Gordonsville will repay the favor next year.
  5. Heard from someone who has seen all of LA's games that they are horrible and won't win again. Not believing that for a second. I think they take this one and several more before the season is over.
  6. Btw, just looked it up. 2011 scores - Uhs 14 LA 38, Uhs 0 SC 45, Uhs 14 DC 63. 2012 scores Uhs 14 LA 55, Uhs 0 SC 47, Uhs 7 DC 47. I can totally see how they might have gotten the idea that the goal is to beat everyone as bad as you possibly can. That doesn't even take into account the horrible beating they took in 2010 when they only had 19 players.
  7. Exactly. So if Upperman's jv team scored on Gordonsville and Monterey in the 3rd and 4th quarter, that wasn't running the score up. They know they are losing 19 seniors this year and are trying to let the younger kids get as much playing time as possible. York did go back in for one series in the Monterey game but it was because a late hit took out a knee on the jv quarterback. The very next series, they put another kid in who supposedly had never taken a snap at QB. That's not running up the score.
  8. I think SC has to get all three of their backs in the mix to win this one. However, knowing Manning is going to get the ball still doesn't make him easy to stop.
  9. http://www.reviewopedia.com/team-national.htm Looks like it is a pyramid scheme. Maynard must have talked people into joining.
  10. I know there was some type of pyramid scheme that some in SC were caught up in last year. Is that it?
  11. Upperman played subs the final quarter of the first two games. The sc game was close right up until the last half of the fourth. As for memories - maybe Upperman has one. Don't recall DeKalb, Smith or Livingston caring if they ran the score up in the years that Upperman was barely fielding a team. Maybe the Bees seniors are remembering those games that went the other way the last three years.
  12. There were extra bleachers on both sides for the SC game and they said they were staying all season. They weren't big though - just enough for the bands from both schools to sit on. Every game so far this season including Monterey has been standing room only on both sides according to one parent I asked.
  13. Monterey's offense can be hard to defend and Looper is tough on both offense and defense. I'm not saying they win this one, but I think it's going to be a lot closer than some people think. If Gordonsville goes in over confident or distracted by homecoming, they could get surprised.
  14. Hard to say. I saw White County scrimmage Upperman but both teams said they held starters out and weren't really trying. White County's coach thought they could have won by a couple of touchdowns if they had tried. I think this could be a close game though.
  15. That's true. The educational programs are top notch.
  16. Upperman's field house and bleacher budget were cut when it was originally built to offset cost on one of the elementary schools being built at the same time in an elite neighborhood. The field doesn't get watered down, it just doesn't drain well. It is muddy and soppy for several days after any rain. Putnam County has a lot is money - go to Cookeville games and you will see it. Baxter and Monterey don't see that same funding.
  17. I believe Sparta is a 5a school - just one classification above DC.
  18. Very true. Kids that are seniors now were 1-9 as freshmen with their only win over Pickett County. They've come a long way under Herron and they deserve respect for having the heart to keep playing after that horrible season. Don't know if they will win one more game, but they have finally got the school and community behind them and the program moving in the right direction.
  19. Has anyone seen Cookeville play this year? I know they've beaten Monterey and Warren County and lost to Cleveland. Warren County game was supposedly close. If Smith lets their big backs run the ball all night, I think they can pull this one out. Cookeville has a big QB but he's slow and not very accurate with his throws. What other weapons do they have? Is their defense improving?
  20. Well, I am taking SC by 7. May be wishful thinking - the players I know from Cookeville are spoiled and arrogant. I would like to see Manning run over them all night long.

  22. I heard Uhs ended up with Clay because Stone dropped them at the last minute. Jackson is an old rivalry game that had dropped off the schedule in recent years.. The goal was to get teams from close by that would draw large crowds and bring more gate money and avoid long road trips like Meigs County and Grundy County.
