  1. It’s simple. Three classifications in private school is an example of this. You can’t have a team from West Tennessee play a team from East Tennessee, you can’t a team from Memphis play against Clarksville Academy. The smaller private school league has to be the lowest of the whole classifications. Also, you have 4A Region 5 and 6 marching up. That’s 2 hour drive for each game. Hardin County played Montgomery Central I believe. North Side played Portland. A winless Memphis East team played Dyersburg. Yes, attendance numbers are going to be down. It’s not a good product when the running clock is in effect in November, and we are seeing that more often. Nobody is going to spend their money on a bad concert, a bad movie, and a bad team. But seeing this article is a pretty site to see, because we all know the TSSAA cares about the money. So they’re crying because they’re losing money, karma came out to bite them, and they have to do something.

Good coaches are good teachers. It goes hand in hand. Also, what are we basing being a good teacher on? Evaluation scores? EOC scores? What, in your opinion, makes them a great teacher?

A good teacher depends on two things. First, people can sit there and say that a good teacher focuses on the development of a student from the time when he/she enters the classroom, to the time when he/she leaves the classroom. The other deciding factor that determines a good teacher is the test scores. Needless to say, students that has good test scores make up a good teacher. A students grown will determine how good a teacher is. Regardless, statistics is the answer. Want to find out whether if a teacher is good or not, look at the test scores. Nothing “character” determines a good teacher to a bad teacher.

IMO, he is not ready to be a HC of a program. It would be a mistake by the Chargers. The man they need to be looking for is sitting on the Tennessee River leading a program.

I didn't think Jesse Powell was ready to be a head coach at North Side, but he was just plays away from a semi-final appearance in his first season. Also didn't think Scott Frost would be the right guy that Riverside, but look at what he has done for the Panthers in the last two seasons. Not trying to bash you, but some of the guys that I've said  "weren't ready" or "this move will not work out" have proved me wrong. I'm actually anxious to see what Wallace can bring in Martin. Going deep in the playoffs? Doubt. A bunch of excitement in Martin? Heck yeah

  4. I don’t know what to expect from this game. I like North Side at home, but my biased will showed (just like Springfield’s biased shows). Truth is, we’re in the 3rd round, and everybody will root for their team without doing homework. However, if Springfield plays the way they played against South Side, they won’t win. If Springfield plays their game, they have a legitimate chance to win, but they can’t give North Side any chances like Montgomery Central did. I can careless about what happened between North Side and South Side. At the end of the day the Indians won 26-7, and could’ve went into halftime leading the game if it wasn’t for a big play which was called back to holding. The teams that are remaining are good football teams, whoever wins will now move into the category of a “great” football team.

The school is rough not the area lol. North Side's campus is on the north side of the interstate, and the south and east side of Jackson is the rough part. Very quiet neighborhood that is right beside the campus. You will be fine.

North Side grad buddy! I just did that comment to be sarcastic in a way. No way North Side is in a "rough" area of Jackson.

  6. This game will be at North Side. Having the game at Jackson Christian is the last option North Side should consider. Also, South Side uses strictly grass. No conditioner, no seeds, just grass like we have in our backyards. Besides, name me a field that is in perfect condition in the third week of November? I’ll wait.

NorthSide is fast! Team speed is faster than Springfield. They found a mismatch and exploited it in first half with two long pass plays until MC adjusted. They have the athletes to not be terrified of 23 and their qb 14 is as shifty a runner as we have seen all yr. If Springfield can watch the film and see the adjustments that Central made defensively the second half this will be a dog fight. I could see this game being an absolute shootout. One more thing, while NS is in a rough area, the ppl could not have been nicer. The PA announcer does sound like a DJ during the game though which is pretty hilarious. Don’t expect any help from officials Yellow Jackets, they threw maybe 5 flags the whole game. Good luck to both teams!

North Side is in a rough area? What?

CC's principal ran off a good coach last year and look what he got....running clock for Springfield probably starting in pre-game...

Catlett ran off a “good” coach in Hodum? Yes, Chester County won that district back in 2014 I believe, but had no chance in beating North Side that year. Also, they struggled since. Don’t get me wrong he took TCA to state with Jabriel Washington, but they were also were 5-5 in the regular season I believe. I like Hodum as a person though.

I got a headache from making that post .  Riverside is good. They are the sleeper team in 2A. I saw someone post that South side is without him? Tyler Reeder is a alum of McKenzie and I am proud to see him doing well. Camden is a team that improved as the year went on. My biggest question is how the will the lions do in the playoffs.

Yeah, South Side is good with Eric Latham. Without him, they’re having a tough time finding their identity. Yes they beat Liberty and Humboldt with Latham on the sidelines, but also scored 7 against North Side. They might win on Friday, but after that, who knows.

I will agree on some circumstances with your post. But I disagree on a lot.

In 1A: Dresden lost their best player. This was a team that was expected to make a run for the title but without Yates they fizzled out. I am proud to see the success that Greenfield and West Carroll are having. West Carroll has a great coach in Coach Wolfe and he gets his team to play hard each and every play. Huntingdon is Huntingdon so they are always good.

In 2A: McKenzie needs to get rid of Coach Comer. That's their problem. Union City has dealt with injuries all year. Adamsville is very young so give them a year or two to rebuild. Gibson County is one of the great stories that we will remember in 2018. They handed Peabody their only loss and have made the playoffs for the first time since 2000 or 2001. I am excited to see what Fairley does this postseason.

In 3A: Milan continues to try to find their success but they continue to win the games they need to. McNairy improved greatly from last year. South Gibson is a young school and with the success that they have had the past couple of years, I expect to them to continue to build their program.

In 4A; Dyersburg is having a fantastic year. They will definitely be a threat in the playoffs. Haywood played one of the toughest schedules in the state. They are battle tested and the tomcats are ready to roll in the playoffs. Not sure what happened to Crockett county but I think a unexpected loss to Obion county and a rough three games to end the year is to blame.

In 5A: Henry County is back!!! They gave Germantown their toughest test and finished out the year strong. I thought this team would be down after losing Lucas Reynolds but I was wrong. They are rolling and are the best team in 5A (my opinion). Dyer County ended the year strong and they seem a lil bit better than last year.

Agree, but I am curious to see what Humboldt, Westview, Lexington, and Fayette Ware looks like in 3 years. In addition, no one is giving credit to the turnaround that Coach Frost and Coach Reeder are doing. Riverside is a good team with an exceptional defense and South Side is a good team with Eric Latham. Can’t forget about those two. Also, Camden seems to improved a lot from last year.

  11. I understand that West Tennessee is somewhat down. Adamsville and Lexington didn't have the season they were hoping. Humboldt needs to be a team that wins 8+ games in a season. Crockett is somewhat down to years past. However, MUS, Fayette Academy, Lausanne, Christian Brothers, Houston, Whitehaven, Germantown, Henry County, Dyersburg, Haywood, Covington, Peabody, Lake County, and Huntingdon are all legitimate threats to make it to Cookeville.

  12. I'm actually going to disagree with this, and for a few reasons. First, we have 21 counties, 8 of those counties have only one school (Lake, Crockett, Chester, Haywood, Hardin, Decatur, Henry, and Benton). With that being said, and despite there being tons of schools and those education academies in Memphis, we still don't have the quantity amount of schools as Middle and East Tennessee does. Also, look at the playoff brackets and you'll notice a few things.

In 1A, I see Hancock with a 2 seed at Region 1 with a 3-7 record. Those 3 wins are over Cosby, Unaka, and Jellico (combined record of 6-23). Jellico, Sale Creek, South Fulton, and Hancock County are the 3 teams in 1A that are in the playoffs with 3 wins or fewer, three of those four teams are of those are in Middle and East Tennessee. *SF combined opponent record over Humboldt, Gleason, and Dresden is 7-23*

Same situation in 2A where Bledsoe County and Marion County are in the playoffs, with 3 wins or fewer. Bledsoe County wins are Tellico Plains, Grundy County, and Polk County (combined opponent record of 9-21). Marion County has three wins as well, Bledsoe County, Tellico Plains, and Coalfield, (combined opponent record of 11-19).

3A, Melrose is the only team in West Tennessee that is in the playoffs with a sub .500 record. Melrose is 4-6. However, they're 10 Middle and East Tennessee teams in 3A that are in with a .500 record. The only argument you can make is that out of the Melrose wins, two of them are winless and the other 2 only have 1 win. However, they're 4-6, they finished 4th in their region, so they're in the playoffs. But Melrose is the only West Tennessee team that is in with a sub .500 record.

4A is different because the Memphis 4A region is awful. Memphis East is awful, Fayette Ware is not good, Craigmont is not good as well. You can add Chester County (R6) in there as well. However, Hardin County got robbed of a huge call against South Side that ended up costing them that game. If Hardin County won at South Side, they're the 2 seed and South Side will be 3. Right now, in my opinion, Hardin County is the best 3 seed in 4A. North Side is 6-4, but two of those losses are to teams that finished 10-0. South Side is good, but they lost Latham and it's hurting them. Haywood is still dangerous. Dyersburg got 4 running backs that can all rush for 100+ yards each in a game.

In 5A, it's Henry County and Henry County only.

6A is all Memphis schools which will be Germantown, Whitehaven, and Cordova. That's all.

Heard a pretty reliable rumor that TSSAA is investigating and most likely neither Mcewen or Bruceton will be eligible for the playoffs after the brawl and everyone from both teams that ran on the field will be suspended for the first game next year.

You can’t be suspended if you ran out on the field and didn’t get ejected. Why suspended a player if he didn’t get ejected?

The team we played last year in the second round was a good team.  It is hard to believe that they fell to 2-8.  Must have lost a ton of players to injuries and/or graduation.  Maybe a coaching change?

I said a few years ago I won’t consider Lexington a legitimate threat if they continue to run that offense. 2-8 and not making the playoffs in a region that includes Chester County (a bad football team) and Liberty (a bad football team) is embarrassing. I guess not making the playoffs is evident that there needs to be a coaching change at Lexington. Now they’re one of two schools (so far) in West Tennessee that I expect a coaching change.

Was Dyersburg mentally in the game?  150 yards in penalties indicates a mental let down, which is what I was concerned about after a big win against Haywood.

Dyersburg’s waterboy was penalized 5 yards for illegal shift while pouring the water.

Dyersburg wins however, 42 to 20.....an ugly win,  but a win regardless.....All of Northside’ s points came on either turn overs or penalties against Dyersburg’s defense.

The good news?  The exciting news?  Dyersburg unveils another running back,  big ole and fleet footed Darrius Harris, freshmen.......wow, just wow.....have never seen any school in my lifetime to have the depth of talented running backs that Dyersburg has.  They are fortunate.

Harris’s father, Stacey, was a forward on Dyersburg boys basketball team when they were a runner up in the Boys Basketball State Championship game where they lost to Christian Brothers by 1 point.  Stacy was as strong as a bull....Darrius is going to be special.....he comes from good stock.

Hayes Holt scored a touchdown in the second quarter. That drive had no penalties against Dyersburg. Thought D-Burg was good, but I can tell they weren't great tonight. I guess you can say I watched the Trojans on a bad night.

  16. Really have been impressed with Dyersburg all year. Not just beating their opponents, but the domination  is what has impressed me. Trojans has a +197 point differential. I know Haywood's schedule is tough, but Dyersburg opponents they have played so far, has only a combined 4 wins. I'm not trying to be that guy. I know Brighton played on Black Friday last season, but they have sucked it up so far this year. I know Obion Central is region, therefore you have to play. However, Haywood is an impressive win though and that is good to see! I'm curious to see how the Trojans do against a hot North Side team. I believe Dyersburg will win, but I don't think they'll win by 30+. Needless to say, I believe Dyersburg is the first team in West Tennessee to officially clinch a playoff spot last week.

  17. Trinity finds a way win this game, 27-20. I say that because I believe a lot of people are somewhat underestimating Fayette Academy. The Vikings have a legit chance to represent their D-2 class and make it to Cookeville. That FA team is an experience group of kids that will win games and be competitive in their playoff games when November rolls. They just beat Trinity last week, not because they are by far the better team, but they beat them because someone has to win and someone has to lose. My head says A'ville, but my heart says TCA for some reason. I think they can win in Adamsville this week.
