  1. Just heard Copper Basin boys basketball job is open. This is a great opportunity for the right coach. They have a principal that is a former basketball coach and is great to work with, coach Kidd. They have four returning starters, and practice is forth block, no after school practice. I believe a PE/Wellness is associated with this position. I hope we find a good coach, very good facilities and great fan base.
  2. McGowan has done ok but I agree Cleveland should be much better and go further in the tournament. The new AD David Turner was at Copper Basin before he came to Cleveland and he had an Assistant Principal at Basin Coach Kidd that I think lives in Cleveland and I have watched him over the past ten years and I never witnessed a coach beat so many team with less talent. I don't think he would coach again because like I said he is in administration, but he could be incredible with Clevelands talent. If McGowan was to leave or ask to leave go get Kidd.
  3. Not many coaches still out there. It's late in the summer and with a lot playing football or going somewhere else it could be tough. There are a few guys in administration that would do well, even one that use to coach at Ooltewah, but not sure if they are interested. I haven't heard much about Ooltewah lately
  4. Please help me understand what is going on at Copper Basin concerning boys basketball. I have followed Copper Basin sports for many years and supported all decisions made by administration, but this is crazy. The Basin boys have made tremendous progress the past several years until last season. Coach Kidd had the program going about as well as it done in recent memory, and when he left to go in to administration, I thought he was a little crazy because he left the cupboard very stocked, I personally thought he should stay, at least two more years. The new coach whom I hear work under Kidd at their previous school, went a very disappointing 4-21. Now this year I hear with 9 or 10 seniors, the players are running the team. I am sorry I can't bite my tongue but after this year the talent level falls dramatically. Administration please make a change, not sure if Kidd would come back but can we at least try. I don't want to make a change after this season, because we have a team capable of being very successful. Players don't respect the coach, which leads to losses. Please help.
  5. About a month ago I heard Coach Kidd was going to take the boys basketball back over and now I hear he is coaching the girls for the rest of the season. First of all is this true, because When I brought this up everyone said Kidd was in administration and wasn't coaching anymore. Second what happen to the girls coach and why would Kidd take over the girls, because from all I have seen and heard the girls are really struggling.
  6. The last six years Basin boys basketball has averaged 13 wins a year and last year was 19-6 losing only four players. The two starters back are two of the best players in district 5a. This is the team that was thought to be the best team in a while. This is why folks are talking. Basin hasn't been sub 500 in seven years. Been in region four of the last five years.
  7. Has anyone heard the rumor that Coach Kidd is taking the boys basketball program over again? I have watched the cougars play a few times this season and the intensity and chemistry is not the same at all. I think the new coach is a nice guy, but 2-8 is inexcusable for this team. They have a lot of good players but can't seem to get anything going. Thursdays lost to Nantahalla has kinda put the Copper Basin community in an uproar.
  8. Does anyone know what is going on at Copper Basin? I watched Basin last year and read an article in the Chattanooga Free Press about this team only getting better with a lot of underclassmen. Is some players hurt, or did a lot play football and are finally coming to basketball. I haven't made it to a game yet, but 0-4 with losses to teams they beat easily last year, is strange. Coach Kidd does a fantastic job and I wonder what is going on. Someone help me out.
  9. I do not think they will ever play football again after the wildcat fans actions at the last game. With the company closed the two schools are very different in size about 700 to 800 for the Benton boys and about two hundred for Basin. I know for a fact Basin has begged to play Polk in basketball the last few years, which I do believe Basin boys would win and maybe win easily. So I do not think they will play again.
  10. Tellico needs to get the coach at Copper Basin. He led Badin to a region semi final and most wins in Basin history. He was 5a coach of the year and I hear he is not happy with the new principal. He would be a great hire and I think he lives in Cleveland.
  11. I watched copper basin and Boyd play tonight, very good game. Boyd has an excellent team but basin played them very tough. Boyd had a 5 point lead at half and a 4 point lead going to the forth.. Basins shots just didn't fall at the end and Boyd did what it took to win. I think the final margin was 11 but much closer than that. Congrats Boyd on a great season, but big congrats to basin for a great season so far and best of luck in district and hopefully region tournament.
  12. One of your fine readers asked me to post the Copper Basin vs Hiwassee Dam game score. The two teams played tonight January 10, 2014, Copper Basin 75 Hiwassee Dam 37
  13. I am shocked that Boyd Buchanan is not ranked. I can't believe there are 10 single A teams better than Boyd.
  14. Copper Basins big man was in foul trouble and played the first 30 seconds of the second half only.
  15. Sorry on the mix up on the score. I knew it was tied at half, and I thought it was about nine. Just spoke to a former player and he said CSAS score the first 12 points of the second half, besides that it was very competitive game. By the way I have never known Coach Dragoo to ever let off the gas lol.
  16. CSAS is one of Copper Basins losses. They were tied at halftime and I think they lost by nine. They play Boyd Tuesday January 14th.
  17. January 10 is at Basin. I'll keep you posted. From what I hear that is quite the rivalry.
  18. Copper Basin plays Hiwassee Dam twice, Friday January 10 and January 23, I don't see Murphy on their schedule.
  19. I have been following single A basketball very closely this season, especially in the Chattanooga area, Boyd Buchanan may have one of their best teams ever and CSAS is once again very good. The one team I have watched play a few times that I believe is very good that I am not hearing anyone talk about is Copper Basin. Copper Basin is 8-3 at the Christmas break, their best start in two decades with two wins over Fannin County, a school of over 1,000 kids, and a very impressive 19 point win over Grace Academy. Basin is 2-1 in district 5A, and a fun team to watch. Their coach, Coach Kidd has turned this program around. I think Basin can finish in the top three in district 5A and possibly make some noise in the District and Region tournaments.
  20. The coach at Copper Basin High School Tim Kidd, is one of the best coaches I have seen in a while. Coach Kidd took over a David Brainerd team that had won six games in their history and won eight games his first year and 17 games in his second year. He moved on to Copper Basin and the team had lost over 50 games in a row and he has turned them around. He has taken the Cougars to two region berths and averaged about 12 wins a year, with out a lot of talent. Kidd's Copper Basin teams have beaten many larger schools, from Boyd Buchanan, Silverdale, Grace, 4-A school Fannin County, and a very good Hamilton Heights team in one of the greatest games and best coached games I have ever seen. Copper Basin doesn't get a lot of attention because they are off the beaten path, but if you go to Basin you better be ready to play or you will come home with a loss. I have heard that Kidd has turned down several bigger school offers to coach and by watching his teams they seem to love to play for him and play hard. If you ever get a chance to watch Basin play it will be worth the trip.
