  1. Ask whoever. Its common knowledge. He coached smoky mtn and k2 before we got there in 2010. He was the my daughter's k2 14-3 coach (2011), he coached the k2 15-2 team (2012). I can probably find photos of him at tournaments with a K2 shirt on. At least 3 or more players off J Hames' 18-1 team were on BHS coach's 15-2 team in 2012. To answer the why BHS isn't playing to their potential this year is obvious. BBV you said you were at the Farragut/BHS game so you should have seen it, clear as day... BHS has a strong front row, but NO passing game. The 4 year BHS libero graduated last year, our best passer and club player moved out of state this summer and our current libero only plays HS VB, NOT club. In fact of the BHS players on varsity 6/10 play club. The other 4 only play HS VB. In comparison to Farragut, where I believe EVERY varsity player plays club. 5-6 for KVA 5 for K2. Club players make huge difference on a HS team. PS: I did find a photo...if you want it I can email it. It won't let me post here.
  2. FYi Bearden's coach was hired by Chris Hames at Smoky Mountain then when K2 opened he coached for K2 for 3 years. He coached Bearden Middle school vb for many years and started the Jefferson Middle School volleyball program.
  3. KVA has two upcoming 18 players that have already verbally committed to play at certain colleges and many more still in the decision process. Already, even a few 17s who have basically decided where they are playing just haven't/can't verbally commit yet. To say: "K2 is designed more for the elite player who wants to play in college. KVA is for the high school player who wants to get better" is to be misinformed. They may not be D1 schools, but not everyone, including K2 players are D1 level athletes. Last year K2 had one girl sign D1 and doubt on a scholarship. That is all I know of that went D1, please correct me if that is wrong. Many K2 18s did go on to play college at D2 and D3 which is great, and that is what I hope paying for years of club gets players, the chance to play in college if thats what they want. Almost any club player can go to college and play. I'm getting off topic though, High School play is for fun, to make memories and for school spirit. It may not be the highest level they can play but they sure do have a good time. I hate for those who choose not to play high school to miss out on the experience because the high school years go by too soon.
  4. Bearden went 3-0 over Powell, Halls and Franklin The Franklin game was a fun one to watch.
  5. Bearden will have a new and unique line up for this tournament. Coach has to try some new things, we have two girls out. One with a bruised hip and another with a concussion. Should be interesting.
  6. Yes, KVA had 5 teams go to Indy. I'm not sure about all the teams and how they did. I know the 16RedA and 15Red started off low in the rankings for Open Division, I think they both finished around the same as they went in. The 17Red team finished 33rd. Started at 36th in Open division so went up a few. They played great all weekend. It was the best competition they had seen yet, even including the Mid East power League. They played teams from Dallas, Arizona, and Pennsylvania, it was great to play other regions. As far as recruiting goes, I really had no idea until joining KVA how it all worked. I know every girl on the 17 team has been contacted by schools. No one has committed anywhere yet. The 17s coach Mincey, having been a college coach has resumes and business cards on each player that she has at each game so that has been a wonderful system. KVA created resumes for any player 15 and up who wanted something to hand out or send to coaches, and Coach Mincey is helping any girl no matter the team with recruiting. I know a few of the 16s have had coaches show interest in them and are in contact with the director and her. Most of the 18 team is actually 17 year olds. One 18 year old had already committed before this season began. We all head to Big South in 2 weeks. Its the largest qualifier ever with 170 courts so should be more tough competition. A5 won the 17 open division at Indy, so that helps us at Big south and Regionals with a chance for a bid for nationals as long as we keep playing hard.
  7. The Blue Grass tournament had 80+ teams registered over the max and had to cut. They decided who they would accept and who they wouldn't by their own set of guidelines. Not by who registered and paid first. The KVA 18Red and 16RedV were not accepted at all. Other ages were put in divisions they did not registered for. (ex. 15Red registered for open, and were placed in Club) The guidelines included rankings from previous years and number of teams per club registered. This is where being a new club hurt placement. Luckily the Indy Qualifier is first come first served so they all were accepted in the division they registered for.
  8. at Spike4 I'll bite. Its interesting that you get on here now and the results of the 17 team match up. You haven't been on here before when a KVA team has beat a K2 team at other tournaments. It's happened a couple times, and KVA parents haven't gotten on to mention it either. Respectfully. I was at the 17 game, I don't believe you were. The KVA team did get their butts kicked the first game, I'm not gonna lie, they were very nervous about having to prove themselves. They didn't play well. They came back for the second game and it was point for point until the end with long rallies. It was a great game to watch. Everyone played great. But what we were most thankful for was that ALL the girls, K2 and KVA were respectful, and courteous. No one screamed and celebrated obnoxiously. No one tweeted anything hurtful or distasteful. Girls who are friends on apposing teams hugged each other and "said you played great". Parents talked with each other. I don't think if you asked any of the players or parents at K2 that were there that it was obvious that all the "K2 players are D1 athletes" and KVA players are there just to "have fun". It was a good match up. Again, its interesting that you get on here to stir up issues with your little comments. It seems like even the teenage girls are more respectful than you are being. Like I've said before, the parents are the ones who bring the ugliness to sports.
  9. Same here. I haven't heard of some of them. But who knows. Never should assume they are weak, just because we haven't played them before. All you can do is play your game.
  10. There just aren't many good SRVA tournaments with high competition. When you are required to play 2 SRVA in order to play at regionals you get what you get. I know K2 doesn't play regionals and thats their decision. Thats why having 2 clubs is beneficial for everyone. Wilderness Elite may have had some decent teams in lower ages but the 18s division wasn't competition enough. NKYVC was there, but that is all. Wasn't there a 25-3 game? In the Elite tournament? Its harder and harder to find competition in the older ages period, without going outside the region.
  11. After thinking about my last comment, it got me thinking about how much this really is all about the parents, not the girls. The girls don't care who plays at what club. Most have friends and classmates at the opposing club. They still talk, tweet and hang out with each other. Why do us parents, and yes I have to admit...myself, get so one sided about all this. Each club has something to offer girls. Families just have to make the best choice for their own daughter. I know many of the parents that have continued to play at K2, and my opinion of them hasn't changed because of it. My life hasn't been drastically affected because they play at k2 and we chose KVA. I was dissatisfied with my daughter's experience there, so we switched. Simple as that. I hope that when our teams do meet at tournaments its us parents who step up and be the role models, not the girls.
  12. LOL, spike 4 I know, my name is obvious. No hiding here. and you are correct, I can't speak for Dave as far as his feelings for K2, but many parents hate them enough that I doubt many would want to give any money to k2 for any tournament no matter how close and convenient it may be.
  13. Of course that was part of KVA's decision too. They would rather send their younger teams to Nashville Alliance tournaments than give K2 any money. It just so happened that MEP was on the same weekend as older teams so it didn't even need to be considered for them.
  14. I guess I shouldn't say most on K2 18Elite #1 are 17 year olds. I don't know all the girls listed. The team is made up of 17 and 18 year olds.
  15. KVA isn't going to Wilderness Elite this year because MEP is the same weekend. K2 is choosing to skip one of the MEP weekends to play in their own tournament. KVA 16Red #2 team did ask to play the tougher schedule so the cost goes up. K2 18Red #2 team is made up of all the 18 year olds that have never been a high priority. They made them Elite to try and make them happy (didn't totally work) but PhillyA is right they would've played the same tournament schedule as the Elite team anyway even if they were named a 2 team, just wouldn't have been required to pay the extra player only travel fee. But now that they are Elite titled they will have to pay extra. Most on the 18 Elite #1 team are 17year olds.
  16. We had our parent meeting last night. Mincy is gone from CN after 10 years. She just said CN has new AD and her team didn't have a winning year this season. AD and her didn't agree on what future mission for the team was. No one asked further details. She has already had calls about coaching at other places, but she is staying at KVA through the club season. Said she made a commitment to the girls, which is good news for her team. Thats all I know.
  17. BBV that is something to be concerned about. Her husband is still basketball coach at CN, as far as I know, so hopefully that keeps her around for the full club season.
  18. No Idea. Maybe she will tell her club team tomorrow at practice.
  19. I misunderstood my text reply. her college girls do know, her club girls do not know. I don't have details since I just found out.
  20. Not lately, so just asked. Guess not CN coach as of Friday, but she hasn't told her college team yet.
  21. They attended the last game of her season last Saturday. Her college season just ended now she is coaching club. Then back to Carson Newman next college season.
  22. Shannon Mincy is the coach of 17Red at KVA and coach of Carson Newman
  23. You keep saying a its a pattern, what examples can you give if you claim to tell just THE TRUTH!!!!? and not spreading trash or rumors as you mentioned before? He didn't double book by accident? You can "tell me that" Really? you know what is going on in someones brain and on their schedule? Talented! So his intentional "burn" to his team was to book two events on the same night and show up late. Ouch! Pure evil.
