  1. Well I was wrong on these two. A #5 vs a #6 in the championship. This goes back to what I have already said, this is the weakest this district has ever been. The #1 team is 23-1 going into tonight and they get beat. This has to be another history making moment. When is the last time the two bottom seeds played for the championship? I will say this, Summertown is doing it with Freshmen, so they deserve some credit for getting there. They should be tough for the next three years.
  2. Since I'm two for two, time for the next round. Loretto vs Frank Hughes Loretto won both regular season games, first by seven and the next by eleven. Loretto has the better post play in this one. Both teams have good speed. Edge goes to Loretto in shooting. I don't think Frank Hughes can put up enough points to win in which should be a low scoring game based on the other two games. Frank Hughes will get after them on defense, so as long as Loretto can handle the pressure, they will be fine. Frank Hughes has come come a long way in the last three years, starting with the other Morris and continuing with this Morris, but not further enough. (Keep in mind the talent in the district is not what it used to be). Loretto wins this one by 12. Summertown vs Perry County Perry County won both season games by large margins. Perry County has the experience. Summertown's youth will show in this one. Edge goes to Perry County in shooting. Summertown struggles to score. Perry County wins this one by 17. Back to my original post and the question: When, if ever, was the last time Wayne County and Collinwood both did not make it out of the district? My guess would be that this has never happened. Would be interesting to know if someone can find out.
  3. What are the thoughts on the tournament? This has to be the weakest 12A has been in forever. Before Loretto joined, you could always count on Summertown, Collinwood, Wayne County, and Perry County to have some of the best teams around, with some Miss Basketball candidates. Not any more. Perry County has only lost one game, but nothing like the teams they had when Edney and Weatherly played. The entire Region has dropped off. Oh well. I will go with the first round only for now. Summertown vs Collinwood Summertown has won twice by double figures. Neither team shoots well from outside. I cant' figure out why teams keep throwing it up 3pt. land when they shoot so bad from that area. Even the post for Collinwood chunks up threes. Collinwood has the better inside game, but does not use it enough. Both teams have a lot of young players. To me, this one could go either way, but I give this one to Summertown since they have won both by double digits. Wayne County vs Frank Hughes If Frank Hughes has any hope of ever getting back to the Region, this has to be their best chance and only because Wayne County has fallen way down in talent. The two teams split in the season. Frank Hughes won by 5 when they had Davis, but lost by 10 when she was hurt and she is out now with a leg injury. Wayne County has not played well in a while. The key for Wayne County is Ray. If she can score 20 plus, Wayne County wins. Churchwell is the key for Frank Hughes in stopping her. Frank Hughes must pressure full court and run off a rebound. Wayne County must handle the press, put Ray and Mathis inside some, slow it down, and play zone making Frank Hughes shoot from outside. Wayne County let them out hustle them last time. Tough to pick. Tradition makes me want to go with Wayne County, but their lack of hustle and effort this year says they are headed for an exit for the first time in who knows when. I say Frank Hughes by 3. If Collinwood and Wayne County both lose, does anyone know when the last time that neither of them made it to the region tournament? I would have to say it has been a long time, maybe never. If anyone knows, please post. Would be interesting to know.
  4. With the season about to come to a close, curious to know which boys teams have the current longest winning and losing streaks in TN. Looking at Frank Hughes from Clifton, they are 0-23 this season and lost the last 16 games last year, so that puts them at 39 straight. Anyone know of any others?
  5. Wayne County has all their main players healthy.
  6. What was the Summertown at Frank Hughes score?
  7. Right now here is how I would rank them: 1. Perry County 2. Loretto 3. Wayne County 4. Summertown 5. Collinwood (Risner going down for the year puts them at the bottom, maybe even behind Frank Hughes.) 6. Frank Hughes
  8. 1. Loretto 2. Collinwood 3. Wayne County 4. Summertown 5. Perry County 6. Frank Hughes
  9. From what I hear, neither is going to help very much. They may play, but only because options are very limited. Because of their religion, they can't play on Fridays and Saturdays.
  10. Works at the Wayne County Board of Education as the Supervisor of Adult Education for Wayne, Hardin, and McNairy counties. Also hear he refereeing this year. Heard he's not looking to coach again until his son(freshman at Wayne County H.S.) graduates.
  11. Clifton lost 3 seniors and have a different coach (third one in four years). They have 3 starters returning and 2 players off the bench that got some time last year.
  12. Clifton has not been to the Regions in over 20 years, unless I missed something.
  13. What happened to Helton at Lewis Co.?
  14. There is no rule saying playoff games can't be filmed. All games can be filmed as long as they are being filmed by the schools involved in the game. Teams can have their own film person as well as any parent in the stands. People from other schools are not allowed to film games in which their team is not playing.
  15. Anyone know the last time Summertown did not make it to the Regions? I would think it would have to be early 80's or late 70's if I were guessing.
  16. Morris got the job and no one has quit, in fact they had a junior post player transfer in from Santa Fe that should add more depth to an already deep team.
  17. Since you are stating the facts you need to get the facts correct. He led Collinwood to the state tournament during the 2006-07 season while coaching both the girls and boys teams. The girls went 29-5 and the boys were 21-10. (See if you can do the math. Count slow. Never mind, I"ll do it for you. Thats 50-15. Man thats horrible!!!) This was his third year as boys coach after taking over a team that had 1 win the year before he got there. This was only his second year as girls coach and was Andrews and Daniels Jr. year. In five years as the Trojanettes coach his teams had a 108-38 record. The program was really in the grave during that time!! Some may not like him, but to his credit, he is a proven winner. Before speaking about anything in life it is always important that you know the facts and know something about the subject matter you are about to discuss.
  18. Coach Morris has taken a job to be the assistant girl's coach at Summertown. His two children will be going with him and his daughter will be on the team as a freshman. He and Willard have a lot of experience and knowledge, so this should be an exciting year for the Lady Eagles. Good luck Lady Eagles and Coach Morris. Heard that the Trojanettes took some beatings last week at the Wayne County camp and looked pretty bad. Been a long time since that has happened. If Jace, or anyone else for that matter, is smart they will stay away from this job.
  19. Any word on what Coach Morris plans to do next season? He has a daughter that plays that will be in the ninth grade next year. Saw where he got his 300th win this year. Good luck in the future!
  20. I agree with ptguard12 on the choice of Lesley Daniel from Collinwood instead of Abby Andrews also from Collinwood. Based just on this years play (which it should be), Daniel has shown she is the better player.
  21. What about Collinwood's Abby Andrews from the pride and Lesley Daniel from the wings? How did they play? No awards for either? I thought Andrews was suppose to be a major prospect?
  22. If there was any bad sportsmanship it came from Wayne County. Where ever you got your information is completely wrong. Collinwood did a great job of not responding to the dirty play of Wayne County. Alot of elbows thrown by Wayne County. Collinwood turned up the pressure in the second half and Wayne County could not handle it. As far as the refs, they are not to blame for all of the cheap shots and crying by the Lady Cats. Collinwood was the better team. Good luck vs Perry County Monday. Stay focused and bring home the championship.
  23. Great game for the Trojanettes. How tough was #33 Daniel? She played like a beast! I bet she had 20 or more rebounds. Everytime a shot was missed, it seemed like she got the rebound. #11 Rich played strong also. With these two horses inside, it gives opponents something to think about down the road. Also shows all those who think the Trojanettes are led by one person, are badly mistaken. If Daniel and Rich continue to play like they did tonight, with their teammates getting them the ball, then this team will be hard to defend with the guard play of #3 Thompson, #23 Daniel, and #23 Andrews.
  24. I can't believe that Freed ,or any team, would sign a player that quits their team in the middle of the season. If colleges are going to do that, then why would a player continue to play high school ball after signing? Did she sign before or after she quit? Would be interesting to know the facts in what really happened.
