Coach Smith is slowly but steadily bringing the Stratford program back up--- hope Stratford's new principal takes notice---

From the scoreboard page, Lipscomb beat Stratford 35-12----- I agree with some of the sentiment in this topic that Lipscomb is slightly down this year, but it's just a slight dip from a level of the last few years that has been VERY high. I'd say Lipscomb's still in the top 20-25% of teams in their classification.

Whites Creek comes into the game 0-2 with losses to Goodpasture and Hillsboro. Stratford has opened with 2 Metro opponents from higher classifications and are 1-1, defeating Hunters Lane while losing to Overton. Big Metro North-Of-The-River rivalry game that Whites Creek has won the last 2 years, but a lot of people feel Stratford's stepped it up a notch. So who do you think wins this one and why?

I agree---- Stratford's not the doormat they've been in recent years, and the home crowd I saw at Stratford's home opener against Hunters Lane was the best crowd of supporters I've seen over there in years. They still need to get their numbers up---- sounds like depth may have been a factor in how last night's game went. Right now, Overton's looking like the best Metro team. We (the Nashville Storm) play our home games at Stratford, so we're glad to see their program getting their pulse back, especially because we think the world of Stratford HC Jason Smith. But we've got a couple of very good former Overton Bobcat players in Quintin Eskridge and Vonce Henderson, too, and we think a lot of them. Love to see Overton make some serious playoff noise this year.

Your post gets a definite +1 for me--- the players make the prep game great,but so do the band members, cheerleaders, the folks working in the concession stand and at the gate----- a lot of people put effort into the experience the fan enjoys, and they're doing it for the most part for free.

That's a rocky start for a McGavock program that came in thinking they had their best team in quite a few years.

Stratford and Cane Ridge scrimmaged Monday (5/18) at Stratford.

This is going to be an exciting game with more speed on the field on both sides than is usually the case even this deep in the playoffs. Nashville Metro Schools haven't won a State football Championship since the Marcellus Tibbs/Calvin Bryant Hillsboro team in 2003. Can the '08 Burros break the streak?

I've seen Tullahoma play this year and was, honestly, pretty impressed with them; so when a team can take Tullahoma out by 3 TDs, it's an indication that that team (Beech) is a very good team. I'm inclined to pick Maplewood to win and advance in this one, but I don't think the game's going to be any kind of a rout, especially not with the game being played at Beech.

Kemonte Jackson- The Mr 4A is a stretch, but he is an athlete with some potential. Interestingly enough, it's my understanding that this is only Kemonte's 2nd year to play football (at any level), and his FIRST year to ever play QB (as a JR, he was a backup WR). And he's a Senior. Outstanding arm with a good deal more accuracy than most HS QBs, although his lack of experience reading defenses showed at times on the occasions I watched him. It didn't hurt his stats to have Bohannon and Fisher as his prime targets, either. He's got upside for a D1AA, D2, or NAIA program that has the patience to let him develop.

I'm amused that Tommy Owen is in your group of "old-school" coaches in this discussion; Tommy Owen never raised his voice or used profanity, and had perfect control of his emotions, but his players were unanimously in awe of his ability as a coach. He could look at you and shame you into doing things his way. I realize, though, that Coach Owen was not the usual model of a successful coach in his comportment, although he was certainly incredibly successful. I'm with Coach Broome on this one, and if this young man's daddy had administered the proper number of whippings when this young man was younger, maybe he wouldn't be out there disrespecting his coach.

Agreed; Jefferson and Darkwa combined for nearly 500 rushing yards; if both of them aren't being pursued by a lot of major colleges, something's wrong somewhere.

I went to the Stratford/Pearl-Cohn game; the encouraging thing in Stratford's performance was that they won solidly even though Stratford's QB, #12, was a lot less accurate throwing the football than he usually is. I also learned that Stratford's scoreboard isn't the only one in Metro with occasional "issues" (LOL); the Pearl-Cohn scoreboard was pretty well useless for the entire 2nd half.

Williams' older brother was, I believe, 5'7" and 158 as a Davidson Academy back, but was an incredible runner. Had good speed and could do cutbacks you wouldn't believe unless you saw them. Stratford does have a Freshman team (I saw one of their games this year against Antioch; BTW, Stratford won).

I wouldn't have predicted this before the season started, but I think Stratford gets their 2nd "W" Friday night at Pearl-Cohn.

I agree that Hillsboro is basically what we used to call a "pick the score" favorite in this one.
