  1. FootballDad If you are arriving by bus as late as 7 parking will be a bear. I suggest you or the bus company contact the school (423 547-8015 Eddie Pless, Principal) and see if parking for the parent bus is available. We have an area that is used for the visiting team and band also our busses. The stadium is located at the old high school which is in a residential area and parking is on street and a few church lots in the area. I leave my car at 3:45 in the afternoon and the area close to the stadium is allready filling up.
  2. Dad Word passed he will be looking for you. If you can't find him in the crowd look me up. I'me the guy with the mike in the pressbox.
  3. Football Dad Greg Is usually at the game. He sits on the home side around the 50 yard line. His home is one block West on E Street from the stadium. Turn right at the Baptist church the last house on the block behind the church. My son was also at UT at the same time as were several other EHS kids if you know any others. I'll give him a call.
  4. or it may be Wes Holtsclaw of the Elizabethton Twinkle. As far as Fritz goes his beat is Carter County/ Elizabethton not Washington Co/Science Hill which is covered by Jeff Birchfield, I think. Fritz is highly opinionated but I have always respected his openions even if I disagreed with them. He does an excellent job of coverage of the schools for which he is responsible. Until the dust settles I am glad some sportswriter is willing to give an area school a number 1 vote. When CAK comes to town in two weeks we will know more.
  5. Lots of great players out there. Consider the multitalented #14 Taylor Hodge of Elizabethton. He is a wide receiver, punter, kicker, and safety. If you haven't seen him, you will at the next level in some way.
  6. one team scores 14 the other team scores 14. Different rules in NC.

  8. SH - Dominating offensive and defensive performance. Thomas, Forbes, and Itaro all ran well. Cyclones had two drives ending in missed FG in first half. They scored on the third just at the end of the first half. An 80 yard drive to start the third qtr. Cyclones up 10 - 0. Defense dominated the remainder of the game stopping a late drive by Greeneville. Thomas had great night with short passing game to Boles and Hodge. Hodge had great night kickin off and punting. He had one punt about 55 yards dead on the 5 which was called back on a penlity and then kicked it about 70 yards dead on the 4. Say hi to your dad for me.
  9. 11:00 am sky clearing in betsy town. . . no rain in past 36 hours . . . field conditions great. FYI the church parking lot across from the stadium closed due to resurfacing. I suggest the church between E Street (front of TAD) and F Street about 1/2 block East of front of TAD. It has an entrance on both E and F Streets, however the E Street entrance is often blocked. Should be a great game. have safe travel and enjoy the game.
  10. Thanks! I hope I never need to figure out a tiebreaker.
  11. Where did you find that there are two different tiebreakers? Other than use the word tiebreaker, I have been unable to find anything official from the TSSAA. Don't you think that it should be clearly stated before the start of the season?
  12. The video wasn't very good. It didn't address anything about the "tiebreaker". Will the same tiebreaker be used to eliminate schools if too many "automatic qualifiers" and to add schools as "wild cards"? I know what the tiebreaker was last year but this tiebreaker has changed several times over the years. If they intend to use the same tiebreaker as last year, what does the word class mean (AAA, AA, A or 6A, 5A, 4A . . .)? What if you are playing schools from outside the state with different classification systems? A number of schools are playing schools from other states. The TSSAA will not have access to thier records when applying the 50% rule. Way too many questions unanswered.

  15. The TSSAA needs to get it's own house in order before they act. When coaches are told not to enter the field if a fight occurs. There are three paid professionals on the field who must take action immediately to quell the disturbance. Players on both teams have received punishment for their lack of judgement and the schools involved have been fined but there has been no mention of what the TSSAA and their certificated officials are doing to clearify the rules or their responsibility to protect the student athletes in cases like this. The TSSAA has a long history of lofty ideals and taking no resonsibility for supervision or training of officials.
  16. Three guys wearing TSSAA on thier shirts. . . . . From the J.C. Press Elizabethton, Doak soccer banned from postseason for fight By Douglas Fritz Press Sports Writer dfritz@johnsoncitypress.com Shocking coaches and administrators at both Elizabethton and Chuckey-Doak, the TSSAA landed a crushing blow on the boys??™ soccer programs at those schools Thursday. The organization that governs high school athletics in the state ruled both teams ineligible for the District 1-A/AA tournament, effectively ending their 2009 seasons. Both schools were also fined $1,000. It appears the ruling is iron clad, but the schools announced Thursday their plan for a joint appeal. The appeal is expected to be heard this weekend in Maryville as the district tournament is scheduled to begin Tuesday. The ruling was handed down because of a fight that broke out during a regular season contest last week in Elizabethton. With the Cyclones leading 2-0, the game was stopped with 36 minutes remaining because of the fight. In a minor portion of the ruling, the TSSAA determined no winner would be decided for that contest. Chuckey-Doak principal George Frye said he was very upset by the TSSAA??™s postseason penalty. ???I??™m devastated for both programs,??? said Frye. ???I know how hard these kids have worked to prepare for tournament play, and I??™m devastated they won??™t be allowed to do that.??? Elizabethton athletic director Mike Wilson said he was stunned. ???I??™m shocked at what happened,??? said Wilson. ???I??™m very disappointed and surprised at the severity of the penalty.??? One of the biggest issues both schools had with the harshness of the TSSAA decision was the fact there were already punishments handed out. Under TSSAA rules, the four Elizabethton players and two Chuckey-Doak players issued red cards in that contest were forced to sit out for two games. The Cyclones even went one step further, requiring their four players to sit out a third game. ???The effort was made to punish these kids, and now we have to see them get punished again,??? said Wilson. ???It just doesn??™t seem right. The kids understand how serious this was.??? Wilson said the goal of the appeal is simple. ???We??™re just trying to give our kids a chance to play,??? said Wilson. ???We??™re not pretending this didn??™t happen, and we both regret it. ???But we??™ve got some great kids on our team. And some of them are seniors. It??™s incredibly punitive for those kids. And I think Chuckey-Doak feels the same way.??? Because there are only four teams in District 1-A/AA, the absence of Elizabethton and Chuckey-Doak would leave University High playing host to South Greene for the championship late next week. Elizabethton and Chuckey-Doak both had a game scheduled for Thursday night, and the Cyclones have a makeup game set for Saturday against Science Hill.
  17. from todays Johnson City Press "Elizabethton and Chuckey-Doak are still awaiting word from the TSSAA on the outcome of last week??™s soccer game. The contest at Rider Field was stopped with 36 minutes remaining and the Cyclones leading 2-0. A fight broke out, and the referee issued six red cards before deciding the contest should not continue. TSSAA executive director Ronnie Carter said his organization has been gathering information from both schools and the officials. ???A determination will be made as to what disciplinary action will take place as a result of the incident which took place on the field,??? said Carter in an e-mail. ???That is the major situation at this time. We are not dealing with the issue of the score of this game or the issues regarding the concern over seeding in the district tournament. ???The first major decision will be the disciplinary action and whether the two schools will continue play in the district tournaments.??? It appears the TSSAA will take some form of major action, and Carter??™s comment apparently leaves open the possibility the schools could be placed on probation and not allowed to participate in postseason play. Another possibility is letting both teams participate in the postseason, but not allow them to meet each other. If tournament play necessitated a contest in the District 1-A/AA title game, both teams would be regarded as losers in that contest and travel for the Region 1-A/AA semifinal contests. The same scenario could be in place for a Region 1-A/AA title game, meaning both teams would travel for sectional contests. A third possibility is simply declaring ???no decision??? for last week??™s game, and no postseason sanctions. This would mean that if Elizabethton defeated University High, and Chuckey-Doak beat South Greene, the Cyclones would travel to Afton for the championship game. Carter said he expected the TSSAA to announce a decision no later than Wednesday. "
