  1. my assumption is they play in a pop warner league, that is one of the states that the test flag leagues has been implemented.
  2. Pop Warner done a test study in two of their regions to see how it would work I was told by someone very close to the situation that they are expanding that to be in four regions, I didn't tell the whole story there and let me clarify, they as well offered tackle for the age groups but had to combine two teams in that particular league to have a team, there is a lot more details about it, I will try to find the report and link it on here, I just kind of high lighted it and will have to take some of the info out due to legal reasons.
  3. Your right but that goes both ways. some more research if you want to take the time Look at the Mueller and Colgate report "Annual Surveys for football 1931-2012 Dejan Kovacevic "Not so super on global stage" http://triblive.com/sports/dejankovacevic Fredrick O. Mueller and Robert C.Cantu " football fatalities and catastrophic injuries, 1931-2008 David R. Weir National football player care research. read those articles do the research and you can make your own conclusion, I for one don't read one book and make my opinion I look at allot of info and there are parties on both sides that have their facts, maybe because I played I look at it different but I truly feel football builds things in young men that no other sports does and there is allot that has improved but scaring parents and kids away from the sport is not accomplishing anything.
  4. great post, please do read the book its very interesting, I also played the sport in HS and two years in college before injury cut it short, I can say still today the aches and pains that I feel from time to time makes me wonder if it was worth it but, I can say without a doubt I would play again and I would have stay in better shape. Take a look at the link I have below, its actually on a different subject but it shows how the NFL goes to great links to make us believe what we see and not what we know, anyway the sport will see big changes and it won't look anything like it does today. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/nfl-draft-scout/21753982/2013-combine-timing-instruments-to-remain-status-quo
  5. With all due respect to you my friend todays athletes may very well be all that but the biggest part of the game today has no where near the physicality of the game of old, we will agree to disagree on this issue has I for one believe it has way more to do with money then really with what's happening, for the most part allot of the kids that plays the game today could have never handled the type of guy it took to play in the 70s and 80s and some of the top guys in the business have said that. Read the book educate yourself about the subject, regardless how anyone on this form feels the sport of football will be much, much different within the next five years, some of the top youth league programs are implementing flag only in some of their regions, I was told this last spring and then done my own research and it is fact that the biggest youth program in the country implemented in two of their regions flag only up to age 13 and they seen their numbers raise, the second largest implemented a no special teams play in their entire program in one region they seen injury numbers fall and are now looking to implement into their entire program. I was told these things and to be honest did not believe them until I done some research on my own, slice it however you want there is an attack on the sport and it will change drastically.
  6. Read the book I posted it will educate you and anyone else that wants to take the time, this whole thing is about money , read the book and you will see the research done by the top Nero guys in the land, yes there is issues but no where near the issues that the local HS trainers are making it out to be, seems funny to me when I played in the 80s the sport was way more violent and it seemed to be less injuries back then, my thinking is our attitudes toward hard work, commitment and excuses as allowed for allot of people to make allot of money off of scaring people who are clueless except for what they were told from the people who want the $$$$$.
  7. you know all that is great info but the issue goes way deeper then stats, you have twice as many groups attacking football then supporting it, you have the media playing to the tune of how danger the sport is rather then the facts. Here is a great book for all that are interested to read on the subject. The War on Football Saving America's Game By Daniel J. Flynn A coach told me about the book this summer when I was taking my son to workouts, this same coach was telling me that allot of coaches he knows around the country say they are seeing drop offs in their numbers every year, any way read the book its pretty eye opening.
  8. stats, stats, stats don't lie, now I am sure the argument could be made , well they played in a week league or something, my point is the way it is set up it allows guys to play buddy, buddy, I think it should require something more then the coaches coaching in it to select the whole team.
  9. its all ego, these HS coaches think they are the only ones that can coach or teach their kids but in respect to that not all the so CALLED experts are all they are cracked up to be, allot of guys watch a few youtube videos or think because they played in HS they are a top notch trainer, I have seen it with my own eyes here in Knoxville with the so called experts and the product they put out, quit a few legends in their own minds.
  10. I would be surprised if the courts rules in the losing teams favor, it would open up a can of worms that would have every program that feels they were short changed to be in the courts, society is so up side down anymore with being cheated its sinful. Hate it if the ref blew the call but as someone said Maryville would for sure have a complaint if we want the courts to decide,
  11. Some players but few have coaches that coach for the right reason, way to many coach for their own selfish reasons, the profession of coaching requires nothing more then a few people to think they are good, the realization is there is way more coaches that only care about their players for what they can give and take very little time to promote that deserving player, Coaching use to have a substance of pride now its way more about EGOS. All you have to do is look at the players selected look at the coaches that are coaching the games and its takes all but about two seconds to realize this is a good ole boy game not a true representation of the states talent at every position, I'm not whining, I'm just tired of seeing the system so loop sided, just like Mr Football awards they give those to players for positions they don't even play.
  12. Just because you haven't been offered a scholarship to play football doesn't mean your not one of the best HS players in the state, tier two players do get a chance but if your going with tier two then why not get the best ones, I think the system should have a ballot that has the top players in each position with the tier two players listed as alternates and allow all the HC in the state vote for those kids, they should allow the West coaches to vote for the East kids and East coaches select the West kids, its simple they look at the numbers and make their vote, then they don't have an emotional tie that allows for the injustice of having more deserving kids set home and watch.
  13. He was listed as a fill in but now his name isn't even on that list, maybe someone decided not play which opened a slot for him or maybe he ask for his name to be taken off, either way the system is flawed, most of these players are on this team because of who is coaching the teams and some are deserving but some of the others were out played at their position and will benefit from the selection process.
  14. Those are all great points but, when you have players that are at the top of their position and they don't get the chance it is ridiculous.
  15. The TN all star game will take place without top players in the state, is this due to the selection process, the coaches that are coaching the teams or is it just down right a popularity contest? I would think that you would want the best the state has to offer not who the coaches think is their best player.
  16. Yes if you want to call it that, allot of players that have way better stats then some on the roster, heck number 5 from West is not even on the squad, how do you leave him off or the leading rusher in the state, can you say? good ole boys,
  17. well in the game you are asking about I answered, they were much the same, neither one very impressive for state championship caliber, JMO, the most discipline teams were Ensworth, Maryville, Ravenwood, West, MBA, CPA. I guess if a game looks as ugly as the 4A game did. As far as the best coached team in the 4A game I think you would have to say neither looked to be that crisp team executing to a high level, now maybe that was for one game or maybe that is part of their game but the facts are they looked to be much equal in coaching and execution. As far as the others Maryville had the better coaching they made adjustments after Ravenwoods hey makers and Ravenwood was not able to adapt (great game) West ran their game plan to perfection and Hillsboro could not run theirs (rain or whatever) Fulton capitalized on very bad ball security for Trez and really neither team done anything impressive CPA was very sharp and discipline in their game plan and executed when Alcoa didn't Marion County was just out matched PERIOD. and it was much the same in 1A UC was way to talented
  18. BTW never said Trez was not dis, I actually thought those two teams some what mirrored each other and I as many believe when Fulton lines up against Maryville next year they will be exposed in a bunch of areas on the football field, Glad Fulton won but that game ways about the ugliest of the entire weekend, neither of those two teams looked to be very sharp, good football players most certainly but sharp in execution not even close compared to the others but really can anyone say nine or ten fumbles resembles a good fundamental team?
  19. Actually I should say most of the time, Alcoa lost because of the one dimensional offense they run period, CPA was the better team, Maryville has repeatedly beat more athletic teams then they are, slice it how ever you want but every now and then you get a team that schemes or has that one player that takes them over the top but it still remains teams that are fundamentally sound win more then they lose to more athletic teams.
  20. What fools will see is seen in their eyes only, you know the bottom line is simple, Fulton, West and Maryville beat the best that Mid and West had to offer, one can say if this and if that well I can assure you if Fulton plays their best game things would have been different, every game as things that could have went different to make the out come different, AGAIN BOTTOM LINE THE EASTS WON THE BIG ONES, PERIOD.make excuses all you want the facts are the facts, the East has won more championship's in the big boys game then the west, better coaching and more discipline teams ALWAYS beat athletic teams.
  21. His as many rankings are a joke, to many buy in to these type of things, the bottom line is teams need to play then you see who is what, just like Ravenwood, they are much better then a couple of the teams in front of them but until they play the argument stands to allow Sonny Moore or who ever to say what ever. I for one don't pay any attention to power rankings as they have always shown to have their flaws when teams meet up, I think the teams should be ranked where they finish period, with that being said what's wrong with ranking like this... Maryville Ravenwood West Hillsboro Fulton Trez CPA Alcoa and so on, these teams all made it further then any others, Sonny Moore is nothing more then all the rest playing off the emotions of others to make some money.
  22. Some great games this weekend with the Maryville/Ravenwood game topping it off, with the East winning 4A,5A,6A would that be considered the best football for 2014 came from the East part of the state? Ravenwood looked like they were going to run away with the game but just couldn't build on their early success, What do you guys think?
  23. Lets hope this doesn't come down to a two point conversion, the refs at state have problems with those.
