  1. I wonder what a coach like Kristy Brinkley or David Woods of Beech would do with the Soddy girls. I have heard some of the comments that Kirk has said to coaches after and before games. He might know the game, but the talent wins games and he has lost them when it counts two years in a row.... I bet he loses again next year and it would serve him right for the poor sportsmanship he continuously shows every year. How does he keep his job acting like a jerk all the time?
  2. The Bartlett Sky Box Crew will broadcast every game, they are linked at www.tbca.org
  3. coach t reports fcs 5 gp 3 final congrats to Coach Mac as he gets the cougar off his back!!!
  4. Yes, drive do Franklin Road and a catch a game or two, I am sure he'll be on the mound.
  5. Everything varies from year to year, I can guarantee you that some of those Lexiington Lafayette teams in the 90's could have beaten any team in TN. You can't compare on a one year basis and is it fair to compare most schools the next year after they won? Everybody doesn't reload as KY is a relatively rural state other than the Louisville area.
  6. Coach Shelton was indeed an assistant last season and from what I understand didn't really want the job. Beech has played Bowling Green HS in the past and has beat them several times. KY baseball is no better or worse than TN baseball, probably about the same in most areas.
  7. mount juliet is done for the year. we knew this was going to happen, some one was going to get beat that had a good team and be finished for the year. smyrna is done as well.
  8. if that is what happened this is correct McGavock lost a state title because of this rule, Mel Brown self reported the mistake back in the 80's
  9. I can say this, i haven't seen this bunch a whole lot, but the parents have a much higher evaluation than the other schoolS they play do... in other words, results speak for themselves... If Beech is so loaded why aren't they winning - good players win, over 90% of high school sports is based on the talent you have vs. the talent of teams you are playing. The Bucs have done nothing since 1998 in a district in which was domintated in the mid 90's by Hendersonville and pitchers like Jeff Parsons (Clemson/MTSU). The Bucs went to the State Quarters in 93 after winning the district in 92. They were in the regional tourmanent 6 or 7 times in the 90's. Now, we here about how loaded they are - they can't even execute a double cut, or stop 1st and 3rd situations well. These are fundamentals they should be taught at the age of 13 and 14. And what about executing a sacrifice bunt? They aren't getting coached well before they get here, period. It seems to me that most of the problem is - to qoute Toby Keith - "I want to talk about me" - TEAM not ME - They lose a few games and it's all about me, me, me, me, me, me!!!! GROW UP, BOW UP, AND GET IT DONE!
  10. WHAT IF YOU CONTINUALLY STRUGGLE TO HAVE 4 COACHES? I JUST THINK THAT THE LESS YOU HAVE TO MORE YOU CAN GET OUT OF THEM - PLUS MUCH LESS PARENTAL PROBLEMS - HOW CAN A ROSTER OF 18-20 GET ENOUGH pLAYING TIME? NO WAY - HOW MANY PITCHERS DO YOU NEED TO COMPETE? 6 TOPS. SOME OF THE BEST TEAMS HAVE HAD PITCHERS WHO PLAY POSITIONS, NOT JUST PITCH. TOO MUCH SPECIALIZATION THESE DAYS. I THINK IDEALLY YOU SHOULD HAVE 2 SENIORS, 2 JUNIORS, 2 SOPHOMORE PITCHERS ON YOUR VARSITY - UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS IS IDEAL, YOU CAN BRING UP JV GUYS TO HELP YOU IN TOURNAMENTS AS NEEDED.
  11. good teams seem to find a way to get it done. after a slow start the MJ team seems to be hitting stride as they have continued to get better and have beaten good teams in 9aaa this last week. Sitting at 5-1 in the district with wins over Smyrna, Hville, Beech, White House, and Wilson Central. Gallatin wona tough 6-5 decision. Beech seems to find a way to lose, what's up with them? I hear about all this talent, but I don't see it stepping up when it counts... when is the last time the Bucs were in the region tournament? The second half starts this Wednesday for 9AAA, who do you think is primed for a late season run? Looks as if MJ is in the best shape of anyone.
  12. Throught the years I have seen programs run in different ways. Some schools have 20-25 players total with a JV and Varsity program. Some of the varsity players will play in the jv games and usually very few freshman are involved. It seems to make for a highly competitive atmosphere between players and those who want to be on the team as well Other programs have 35-40 players involved and a freshman, jv and varsity team. On the surface, this seems to be a great format with getting more kids involved. I think, though, it is really more for the coaches to have more fundraising capabilities as 35-40 should be able to raise more $$ than 20-25. My questions are these - 1. Does the fact that "litte Ted" gets to play in a system where he's playing, on the freshman team, jv team, mean he logically expects to play when he is a jr/sr just because that is the next step? 2. does it mean he may not feel pressure to get better because all the kids who are close to being good are already on the team and he doesn't fear that he won't? 3. Does having this many kids make it much harder to practice? 4. do you think that #35-40 are really good enough anyway? 5. Would the fact that if you are among the top 20-25 in your school make the others who want to play work harder to make the team? 6. Would the fact that you know if you are on the team this year, but if someone else comes along that is better, you may not be next year? Like in basketball, how many basketball programs dress 20 players for a varsity game. and how many expect to play? I know that each situation could be different, but I personally think you are better to have 20-25 kids, you can do more work individually and you can get better and keep them hungrier if they know that the need to get in that top 25 rather than top 40. There are two sides to the situation. But what is best for the team? Please give me your thoughts...
  13. Here is a post JD put out regarding pre seaon polls - Polls are put together using coaches predictions for their district and area as well as "history" of the teams. Obviously, things will change, they always do, we won't really know until mid to late April who the best teams are and that doesn't even mean you will get out of the district tournament because anything can happen and usually does. Hopefully, these will give us a starting point based on what we know on paper. Throughout the season I will need information on teams and how they are doing. All help is appreciated, but I try to base these on what happens on the field, not opinions. Also, there are many good teams in the state that don't get ranked and if they prove it on the field they will find themselves in a position to get ranked. However, rankings mean nothing - what happens on the field means everything. Lastly, it is a very time consuming job and thankless as well as I put in a lot of time compiling the info on 4 divisions in a 72 hour period every two weeks - So before you start dogging me out this year, remember, that these polls are worth what i'm getting paid to do them - nothing!! JD good luck to everyone this spring and keep me posted on your overall and district records. Well said, 'nuff said - LET"S PLAY BALL!!!!!!!!
  14. What, NOT EAT BEFORE YOU PLAY - how would John Kruk ever have made it??? My favorite "snack" was two big macs, with special sauce, lettuce, cheese, on a sesame seed bun - a couple of those apple pies (liked'em better fried than baked) and a large chocolate shake - What better way than to settle down to the bench for a long springtime nap while everyone else played.
  15. I am not slamming anyone, just telling it like it is, those rose colored glasses don't see much do they? You must be a newcomer to HS baseball if you don't know what I am talking about. When you say I am slamming players -- that's why names aren't mentioned. These are my opinions, you don't have to agree. He has not turned kids into college prospects, as I have stated, they have been and are well coached by other people before during and after they get to Hville HS. Ask some of the other coaches in the district what they think of how the players act on the field. Kids go where they are zoned, where their parents went to school. Trust me when I tell you, it has nothing to do with coaching. Again, he is a great motivator, kids play hard, but he is not a great teacher of fundamentals. - especially hitting. Send him to a small school wehre talent is not as available and he would not win very much. Again, IMO he just isn't The best coaches in this district are Mark Purvis, Steve Williams, Mark Mills
