  1. Should be interesting but Hamilton will be a big favorite to win it. That doesn't mean they'll be handed the trophy. Basketball is a sport that you can't just show up. Fulton shocked everyone 2 years ago. Is there another team like that this year? Maybe? As for me, I'll be pulling for Alcoa. They are a very young team and didn't expect to be here at the first of the year. They will be the youngest team in Murfreesboro, no doubt. Can't wait til next week to see where we stand. Go Tornadoes!
  2. Thanks for the pic Red Rebel! That was an awesome team that went 96-11 in a three year run. For people who don't know they were called the Mighty Mites. Lol! The tallest player on the team was 6'1 and I'm not sure he was that tall.
  3. Turtle the only people you should be blaming is your coach, players and fans conduct. This is not Alcoa's fault? Our administration and coaches made a decision not to play due to AE had nothing to lose. I played at Alcoa and in 1991 we beat AE in the semifinals of the region and an AE player tried to start a fight with one of our players with 40 something seconds left in the game. Luckily our player didn't throw a punch but could have been bad for us the next game. Fast forward to I believe was 1993. After the game Alcoa's team was getting dressed and was told that someone pulled a gun in the hall way. Out of fear and safety of the team they got to the bus as quick as they could. Once on the bus there was rocks thrown at our school bus and surrounded by fans as they were trying to leave. Very scary situation and I have verified this with family members and coaches that were on that bus. I can go on but I believe you get the point. These type of situations probably had an effect on us not playing AE. Alcoa and AE has always been a great rivalry. When we played in the 80's and 90's those games were awesome minus the side show. I can't wait til next year because we should be a lot better. You do know our two leading scorer are sophomores. We also played 5 freshman in the district championship game. Two of those freshman should be really good players next year and beyond. Careful what you wish for...
  4. If you look at my first post I wasn't talking about the past. I was congratulating this team on a district championship. As for our basketball program! Vernon Osborne ( one of the greatest coaches in Tennessee BB history) went 865-340 in 39 years. He won 2 state titles when there wasn't any classification and our enrollment was between 300-400 in those years. Also had 10 state appearances with 2 Runner ups with 20 district titles and 11 regional titles. David Marsh coached 13 years went 321-85 had 11 district titles 7 region championships and 7 state appearances with one state runner up. He retired from coaching in 2002. Both of these men are in the TSSAA Hall of Fame. During that 52 year stretch we averaged over 22.7 wins a season with just 7 losses. We had 31 district titles, 17 regional titles, 3 runner ups, and 2 State Titles. Alcoa also had the first black player to play in a TSSAA BB State Tournament. Basketball hadn't been the same since these two left but things are about to change. I hope this clarifies a few things for you. You really can't put Upperman in the same conversation with Alcoa when it comes to BB tradition.
  5. Lol! So how many have the boys won? ZERO! Thought this was the boys thread. Apparently you have zero history on Alcoa basketball! You could add your boys and girls district championships and regional championship together and still not have as many as Alcoa in basketball. You can also add State Championships to that as well. That number will only grow the next couple of years. How was that beat down that we gave you in football? Didn't we beat Upperman by over 50?
  6. Really? How many State Championships does Upperman have in basketball? What about district titles or regional champs? Alcoa has had a very rich tradition in basketball through the years. These young kids we have now will make Alcoa relevant again. If you didn't know we played BB you soon will.
  7. Congrats to my Tornadoes on a district championship. Region bracket looks great for us and should end up in the championship game if we play to our capability. This would be a great accomplishment with a very young team. Probably the youngest team left in the state tournament. Very proud of our young team and know better days are ahead.
  8. How old are you Barney???? Alcoa has always got kids from Eagleton/Rockford...That is nothing new... In 1987 we had I believe 6 kids on the football team from Eagleton/Rockford.. Maryville has had several counties kids if not more during this period and before.. If your kids lived in Rockford where would you send them. Heritage or Alcoa... Alcoa is also closer for most of these kids.
  9. LOL!!! Officially in the record books Alcoa would have more than Maryville but if you don't accept that then just wait a year or two. Alcoa will be dominate the next few years. Maryville has won the penalty edge the last 16 of 17 years against Alcoa...Is that something to cry about...I remember when you was crying about a penalty in the state championship game. Boy you cried a big river too.. All of you Maryville fans did.. Was that justified???? 21 was held several times tonight but never a call... If you Maryville fans think there's no county home cooking then I have a piece of beach front in Nevada to sell you... Alcoa fans see this every year against Maryville when its a close game. Why would we think any different??? Look up the stats pepvol. Maryville had I believe 1 penalty until the last possesion. They had a false start 2 to 3 times that they didn't call.. They did finally call one when Maryville was trying to run the clock down. Maryville had more penalties in the last drive then the entire game. Really???
  10. I LOVE IT!!! A Maryville fan said it was a hold.... LOL!!! 21 for ALCOA was held several times tonight but no call.... rebelwomen87 do you think if ALCOA had 1500 student that Maryville would beat them on a regular basis. I think not!!!! It will be harder for Maryville to beat Alcoa in the coming years... OK Jetrock do you even know who they called the penalty on... Which #....I bet you don't even know...
  11. Our kids played hard and that's all you can ask... We left it all out on the field tonight.. PROUD TO BE AN ALCOA TORNADO... I believe this team is getting better and at the end of the year, I believe this year we pass Maryville for the most state championship... PEPVOL you will be crying a river at the end of the year... The holding call on the touchdown call was terrible... The fumble at the goal line I can except but the holding call was BS...
  12. Here's a little ray of sunshine for you... If Maryville can't beat this Alcoa team by more than a touchdown then I can assure you it won't win the state championship.
  13. OMG!!! Referee takes his time to spot the ball and Maryville doesn't have to kick it. Wow!
  14. Wow another penalty on Maryville. First holding call on them the whole game. Alcoa has a holding call that negates touchdown.
  15. First of all congrats to Corbin for the win. They looked like they wanted it more at the end and that's a little disappointing. This one hurts because we had every opportunity to win this. The personal foul penalty on Maples was a terrible call. Awful! I thought they should have had a personal foul penalty two plays before that on our kid. Which was thrown 4 or 5 yards out of bound when the whistle blew when he was in bound about 3 yards. They had several calls at the end that were very questionable but we had plenty of opportunities to seal this win. This loss goes on the coaching staff and whoever called the plays. For one the jumbo package SUX! Scrap it! Unless we have a very dominating offensive line never run that set again. Is it me or we that stupid? Second we had better athletes but we didn't take advantage. Point being we should have maybe threw some screens and swing passes to our backs to get some one on one situations. Only screen pass came on a safety valve play. Really??? Their only TD in the first half came on two screen plays. Coaching staff was very disappointing tonight. We got out coached bigly! Defensively we are pretty good, Offensively we are just average at best. If we don't get a better grasp on our strength and weaknesses we could lose 2 or 3 more.
  16. This game should be very interesting. It's a game Alcoa could lose if we don't bring our A game. This team is better than Grace and will beat us if we don't play better. Alcoa has looked sloppy in opening games in the past and last week was no exception. Webb gave us fits the last few years. In order for us to achieve maximum success this year we have to let Russell Walker loose. We need to do this in order to make this a better team. We shall see...
  17. No Mr Hunt Mathis has been doing it for many years. I guess you wanted to take up for him. Lol! I'm still mad about the block in the back that he called that nullified an opening touchdown in 1988 against Maryville. There is many more... Is he not a Maryville homer? Would you answer me that??? The official didn't determine the outcome of this game but I stand by my comments and really you shouldn't take up for officials that are bias. I believe Maryville had a bad call in a Championship game from an official that was bias. It's not fair to the kids. Just sayin!
  18. Wow! I What a great game to kick off the season. Congrats to coach Hunt on his first win. Maryville offense will be very good this year and Catholic also looks very explosive on offense. Both teams should have great seasons. Both defenses will have to get better if they want to bring home the gold ball. As for the officials there's two of them that have no right to ever do any Maryville games. The head official is one of the biggest Maryville homers around. All of us that live here know it. He should NEVER do any of the Maryville games. PERIOD!
  19. [/quote Well here's my second favorite Maryville poster. I think it's funny how a few of the Maryville poster keep complaining about the call that game. Was it a terrible call? YES! Was that official biased? Of course! However I've lived in this county for many years and I can tell you that Maryville has had their fair share of gifts through the years. Bottom line is the kids are the ones that they hurt when this occurs. They work so hard and someone they don't know takes a win or in this case a State Championship away from them. That's why officials need to be held accountable for their actions. I find it laughable FBE that you complain about the officials and you should know why. As for the game the Red Rebels 27 Oakland 7
  20. Really? When an official is bias and it affects 12-13 year old kids. Then yeah I'm going to call him out. That's unacceptable to me as a parent. I'd call you out too Rebelsman. Was you at the basketball game that I am referring too? Someone who can't referee a game objectively doesn't need to be an official. PERIOD! If you don't like it get over it. Also if you or anybody else want to know who I am then come to Springbrook gym on Tuesday's. I'm there pretty much every Tuesday.
