  1. Got backed out on. At Meigs The referee just told one of the captains for ER they could not take their speare out to the coin toss. Game changer right there
  2. I know right. I couldn't imagine what it would have been like with that horn if your guys QB wouldn't have went down. It would have been a whole different ball game. I'm not counting out the rematch just yet. Both teams got a tough road but there is still a possibility. I hope he is healthy and full strength tonight for you all.
  3. Fan support was awesome also. Our fans travel really well and as visitors we usually always outnumber the home team but you all showed up in force and were very rowdy
  4. Last week was my first opportunity to go to Jasper. It was a great experience. Beautiful country drive up over the plateau and through the valley. Had several nice eating options. Went with an all you can eat country buffet that was amazing. Then the game itself was pretty nice. Them folks at Marion put on a good show and support their team really well. We got treated to a fireworks show. First time I seen that at a high school game. Great atmosphere for high school football there in Jasper
  5. Tyner proved that against Meigs. I couldn't understand why Meigs was so dead set on running it against Tyner. They only threw it a couple of times in obvious passing downs in long yardage due to penalties or nice run stops by Tyners front seven or front 8 or 9. I think Tyner knew it was Carroll coming at them. Carroll is one my favorite Tigers of all time. He has a huge heart and plays big. He is not afraid of taking a hit and gives the hits more often than not. But that was his worst game. I dont believe he had maybe 30 yards passing if that and maybe 40 or 50 rushing on around 20 something carries. He had more interceptions than than TD passes or TD runs I think. Nothing negative against Carroll. One of the only rough games he has had and it still played his heart out and punched in couple TD's and 2 point conversion and csme up with a big interception. The kid is amazing. Just a great job by the Tyner Defense and what happens when you get one dimensional
  6. I enjoy making a trip of it. I know the team and boys sure do also. It's just less than an hour trip for us here at Meigs but If we are lucky enough to have another opportunity I will still probably make a weekend of it. I enjoy watching all the games and eating some good food. We only got a couple of options here in the Greater Decatur Metropolis. I'm not downgrading our fine dining establishments in Meigs County. We got a great local country place and Barbecue joint here. I even got connections and get priority seating with window views where I can watch the prisoners weedeat and mow the grounds of the courthouse. What could be better than that.
  7. At least we get the benefit of homefield advantage and a short drive to Chattanooga if we make it. We got a long road to get there. Some good teams in the east as well.
  8. Come on man. The kid from Westview has got this wrapped up. Let us relive our glory days here in Meigs. When I say if I remember it's because I do remember but I might get it mixed up by like it was 3rd down and 6 rather than 8. Did get it a little wrong. It was Huckaby's biggest play at Meigs and just a sophomore. Huge catch to set us up to take the lead late 4th quarter down to a perennial state championship team. I had to dig through the annals for you Mr. PRIDE. Even found some of Yeti's best work. 2019 Meigs highlight film. One section of highlights is set to "This is how we do it" by none other than the one and only Montell Jordan. My favorite part by the way. It was tied 14 to 14. Late 4th quarter 5 minutes to go. It was 3rd and 14 and Huckaby went up to grab a deep ball thrown by Swafford. He went up over # 4 and #14 from TC and another guy was nearby to highpoint the ball and came down with the ball, a 46 yard reception and a broken leg. Swaffored punched it in and scored the 2 point conversion. TC did drive it down and score but Meigs did stood tall and TC's 2 point attempt was denied. Meigs escaped with a 22 to 20 victory thanks to the fine exploits of Huckaby and his broken leg and that amazing catch that will live on in Meigs Couny history. Is that better Mr. PRIDE. Don't make us look bad either. You all need to win that 1A. Close games against Westview and let's not mention that Huntington game has got all these 2A teams on this side of the river running scared.
  9. Yes I believe that was on third and long and set up our final score to take the lead late in the game. About a 40 yard pass Swafford threw up and he just went up and grabbed over a couple TC defenders. I feel again if he was available that year the next game we had a great shot at bringing home the title. Meigs has had some bad luck with high caliber athletes going down at terrible times. (Martin Smith, Swafford, Beeler, Key, Huckaby) Injuries are a part of the game though. I feel bad for Marion. I hope their QB is ready to go and fully healthy tonight. I still believe those injuries don't happen right there at the end to Swafford, Huckaby and Smith we possibly would have had two state championships by now.
  10. i would really like to see you guys healthy at QB. I know how it feels having a QB go down. Especially one of that caliber. I watched a couple of your guys games and he was electric. I have always said what I feel on here. A lot of the Meigs fans don't agree with it sometimes. A lot of the other fans seem to take offense but its just football talk and messing around. i have always pointed out Meigs is weak at pass defense and teams that throw it have better success. I have noted that at times our play calling gets a little overkill and simple to predict. Tyner had no problem picking up on it. They stopped the run and in obvious passing downs made the plays they needed. We only threw it maybe a couple of times and it was either intercepted or incomplete. Look at the difference in the passing game against Marion when we were able to run the ball first. Every one was saying you guys would beat us but I was saying Tyner is a different type of game. I knew it would be difficult to go to Marion and win but I thought because of the type of offense you guys run we had a chance. I thought it could go either way honestly. Unfortunate it went down like that but our guys showed up and played a heck of a ballgame that night. I don't know if you were able to watch the Tyner/Meigs game but if you did then I think you would understand why a lot of folks was picking Marion. I do hope all our Region 3 teams fare well. I especially hope Marion's QB comes back full strength. I know Marion County would like to play Tyner or TC and host the game and they have more humble and courteous posters as you had mentioned as one of the reasons you wanted them to put a whipping on Meigs so I will not take any offense to that. Sorry about that. Hope to see you in a couple weeks
  11. You know the answer to that. You hit me with that pose a while back. Carroll ran it 28 times against your Warriors. Tyner shut him down however in the run game and pass game. I dont think he had 30 yards passing or 40 yards rushing. If i had to guess I would say he had 20 to 25 rushes to get those yards and Tyner made him earn them and a lot of times he lost yards. Huckaby however won us that game. He dropped two punts down inside the 5. One from outside the 50 on the 1 yard line. Another down to the 3 yard line. Then he ran a huge punt back from midfield down to around the 10 and with a late hit it got spotted near the 5 and Carroll punched it in. He also had the trick play where he caught the little swing pass and hit Shaver for a 60 yard bomb in full stride for a touchdown after halftime and losing to Tyner at the time. He has done this all year. He has done this for three years. Big catches, interceptions for touchdowns, huge punts to change field position, tons of yards after the catch, and a lot of stripped balls for fumbles. He might only get several touches a game as compared to Carrolls' 30 but they are just as valuable. Good luck with Westmoreland. I would like to see a rematch in Decatur
  12. I'd throw a vote Ben Smiths way. That kid is a force on Defense. That catch he made on fourth down in Jasper was pretty amazing and it took a couple of kids to bring him down every time he ran the ball. His highlights this year and big hits are pretty amazing but in all honesty like you mentioned Yeti this Meigs team is well balanced. You got Carroll, Smith, Key, Shaver, Huckaby, Heifner, Purgason, Falls, all making significant contributions. I like them giving # 15 the nod. He has been solid all year on both offense and defense. Also in special teams. He won us the game against Tyner with the Two punts that dropped and rolled to the 1 yard line and the other to the 3 that set up our field position for our scores not to mention his punt return in that game that got us to the 5 yard line and allowed Carroll to punch it in. And by the way he took a swing pass and threw a 60 yard bomb to hit a streaking receiver in stride for a TD. All in the same game. He has had big time interceptions on Defense, made big time plays on offense and huge catches and runs when we needed them on offense. I dont believe we would be undefeated or where we are without him. Good luck #15. From what everyone is saying it's already a foregone conclusion but hey who knows like 90 percent of the people on here were saying Marion was going to beat Meigs.
  13. I like Tyner in a close one. I think Tyners coaching staff will have them well prepared to go into Hartsville and come away with a victory. I dont necessarily want to see them come back to Meigs County again but I believe the combination of that big back who is a beast to bring down and a solid QB with talented receivers and speed at multiple positions is difficult to deal with. A coaching staff also that was the best I seen all year by far at game management, motivation, coaching, referee persuading, etc. Tyner scored 18 on Meigs and had the lead at halftime. Meigs Defense is the best in 2A in the state. Minus the Tyner game giving up less than 4 a game. Pretty much shutouts and a late score by the second or third team. Tyner pretty much scored more in one game on Meigs first team Defense than all other schools including Marion County who many on here were saying was going to beat Meigs by a couple scores. Don't forget that. I just believe that that Tyner is focused on the here and now and this new coaching staff will get the job done. They don't care about what happened last time. I think it will be one of the best games of the first round. Tyner 20 TC 17
  14. You talked me in to it. Good memories from last time I was as TC. Great program and history. I know a lot of disgruntled fans as of late but it was pretty cool first time walking over that bridge and creek seeing all those banners and state championship photos blown up.
  15. I had an old friend from work with connections to Tyner. She was wanting me to go to the TC/ Tyner game. I was thinking about the offer but I might have to reconsider. The games I watched was against TC and Forrest. I wasn't overwhelmed with ER in either game. I dont know enough about them to know who was missing or how that changed their game plan. I would really like to see that TC / Tyner game. I feel that Tyner has a good shot at pulling the upset and owes TC from the last time they met. I also really like Tyner's new coaching staff.
  16. Probably was you said Forrest was a formidable opponent
  17. General knew beforehand how bad Marion would put it on Forrest. If talking good about a team after beating them by nearly 30 points means something then I might be worried but these Marion posters as of late got me thinking Roy as got them figured out. I watched the game and checked out ER. We double the kid and play the matchups we should take care of business.
  18. Not saying we will overlook them or not be prepared but Forrest is not that good of a football team
  19. I agree with you and I've said same thing over and over. I dont get my feelings hurt. If Carroll is out it is up to our Defense to score for us. It's that's eggs and bacon and simple. We got Ben Smith and Key and Carrol's little brother and Shaver but Carrol runs that offense just like Taye and he he gets those guys the ball. I doubt Ben or Huckaby is going to step in and do what he does but I say we could still compete and still get a score or two with them running the offense or the backup QB. Let's talk about that year Swaffor went down. We beat Rockwood something like 49 to 14 regular season. I think it could have been worse. Playoff time Rockwood came to hit Swafford hard. Not saying they played dirty but there was several penalties early for personal fouls and late hits and some not called before he got hurt. He went down early and Meigs lost 8-9. Rockwood lost a close game to Tyner in semifinals the next week 16 to 10 Then Tyner lost to UC in a one score game in the state championship. I believe Meigs was easily best team in the State that year with a healthy Swafford. So with Tae it's a different ballgame and without Carroll Meigs will hope it's defense shuts outs teams and puts up points which it's done in several games this year. I'm not counting the points we have giving up on 2nd and 3rd string now. So don't go saying Meigs don't have seven shutouts this year.
  20. I myself have said the score could have been misleading but after rewatching it I don't feel it was. Do not listen to what you heard. Go watch the film. Meigs was dominant. If certain things happened, or this or that, maybe it could have been but that was not the case. Meigs outgained Marion like 260 to 130 in yards and that was with just running clock and punting the 4th quarter. I don't believe Marion County ever got close to scoring. The newspaper said the furthest they drove the ball was near the 30 yard line. They almost broke a run and dropped a pass but that is that. Meigs also started the game by driving down to the 1 yard line and missed out on points due to Marion standing tall at the goal line. Marion did not play that bad. Marions QB did go down but he continued to play the rest of the game. He is vital to their offense. The problem with Marion County is they are one dimensional. Meigs rush Defense is stout. Meigs does have difficulty with passing teams and tackling in space. Its not a secret. Watch the film from last couple of years. Heck, just watch the Tyner game. 19 to 18. We barely survived that one. I was able to watch some film on these H2O boys. I'm going to tell you something. That Cousino reminds me a lot of that Hampton QB and SG QB. He might be better. He looks good. I believe it said he is a 3 year starter. He has a good team around him also. He throws a nice deep ball. A very tight mid range pass with some whip on it and he moves around in the pocket well and he knows how to avoid pressure and he has some wheels. If Tyner's QB had any mobility they would have upset us. This Cousino kid looks to me anyways to be more of a threat and athlete but that's just my opinion. I do not want any one going crazy. He does have 3 years of experience playing in big games. Prior to the Meigs/Marion game everyone was saying Marion is loaded and Meigs played no one. Marion will win the East. Now everyone is saying Meigs has the East locked up. I am pulling a Ben Smith and that Transitive property mambajamba stuff he was talking about. Meigs County could be in trouble if we run into Tyner or H2O. However with a senior loaded team and a ton of talent and athletes and several key contributors on both sides of the ball I believe Meigs is determined to get that Monkey off their back.
  21. Your really good at mixing words. I said it just as easily could have been 34 to 0 as a tie ball game if Meigs pushes that first score in from the one yard line in first quarter when you all stopped us and added another late score because we settled for running clock and punting pretty much entire 4th quarter. I also said you guys score first if that receiver don't drop that ball and it's a different ballgame. I do believe Marion takes the lead we were in trouble. Also Marion first possession they hit us with three or four big runs for about 15 yards each for first downs before Taye broke away and went down with injury. That would have been two scores for Marion right there. It would been a great ballgame and I hope we get another chance to play and he is healthy. I'm to old to get my feelings hurt. I just been listening for three days about people talk about how Marion County made so many mistakes, and penalties, and worst game. I played several sports in my days. From my experience when teams have bad games, penalties, mistakes, there is a reason and it is usually the other team.
  22. I believe he might have scored, maybe a couple. He is electric. He would have took some hard hits running the ball all night though. I feel we overuse and run our QB too much. We were up 20 with less than 10 minutes to go and it was obvious the game plan looked like run the ball and clock then punt it. Our QB took several big hits late in that game. I know the staff wants the ball in his hands and trust him but we got some other solid backs and reliable players. It's risky running your QB 30 times a game. That's what we do. Think he had 28 carries for around 125 or something like that. I'm sure its same for you. Our guy takes a beating every week.
  23. It depends on who we play. You haven't seen us in a couple years. Teams that throw it against us have a lot more success. It looked like 75% of Marion's formations against us they lined up 11 on the line on offense. They didn't even put any guys out wide or spread us out or show us any threat of a pass. We run into an improved or determined Tyner or if H20 has more diversity of offense it's a coin toss or if Taye is back and healthy. I watched several of your guys games. He is a major difference maker. His ability to break a big play or two could be a big factor in a low scoring game. I wouldn't count Marion County out just yet. I do feel our fellas our the favorites with their experience and hunger and talent. That's a deadly combination. But throw in playoff football, weather, injuries, refs, penalties, turnovers, etc. It's going to be fun couple of weeks Good luck to all the region 3 teams in the playoffs
  24. Go to bed. I feel you. I did night shift for ten years. It's hard to adjust back to regular
