  1. This is Trevor Rippy's father. First, although I did not agree with the stalling call last night, my son did the best he could with the situation he was in. Our whole team has been fighting sickness all week, and if anybody saw the match last night, it did not look like the usual Trevor Rippy. The reason he appeared not to have a "gas tank," is because he has the flu and bronchitis, but we do not make excuses, Sweeney was the better wrestler last night. After having two shoulder surgeries and being off the mat for a complete year, I am proud of his accomplishments and his will to fight back. What he will take from wrestling is much more than winning and losing a match, it is life lessons that he has learned in the last 14 years that will make him a better individual. I would like to thank Jeff and Jonathan Roberts and all the coaches that have mentored him throughout the years. Congratulations to Sweeney and all the other finalists.
  2. Ridiculous, have not looked at their region results, so how did that happen?
  3. Agreed Bump, could see it all again at state. Mrfix a wrestler has to have medalled at state the year before and win their region to get seeded at state. Don't like it, but that is the way it is.
  4. Region 6 results: 106 Trey Bates Beech 113 Hunter Borders WC 120 Brayden Palmer Beech 126 Noah Horst Beech 132 Thomas Williams Kenwood 138 Alex Pergande WC 145 Enrique Gonzalez Rossview 152 Trevor Rippy Beech 160 Dylan Quinn MJ 170 Parker Bennett WC 182 Sinjin Noga WC 195 Bradley Williams Clarksville 220 Kolin Miller WC Hwt Michael Kramer WC Hated to see Weist go out injured at 145, knew he would have been in the hunt at state. Walling and Williams at 195 was a good match although best match was Palmer and Isbell at 120. Didn't really think it was best match, Palmer was up 12-0 and Isbell battled back to make it a 12-8 match. OW went to Horst from Beech and Kramer from WC.
  5. I think you just made my point, there are some D2 kids that could compete at AAA state and would be there no matter what size there school is.
  6. Hated to see Weist go out like that. Weist is a tough kid and before his injury, looked like it could have been best match of the tourney with Herron. Both will return next year and maybe we will see the full match. Also, someone should send Kenwoods 113 lb to the dentist, from the bite pattern he left on Beeches 113, I think he has a cavity!
  7. Bump and Kid, I think you nailed it. It amazes me that people believe the population of a school will dictate how good an individual wrestler can be. If you want a wrestler to be on the podium, get them involved early in youth programs and wrestling the best competition they can. Don't see many AA schools at AAA or D2 tournaments trying to get their kids better. If a kid ends up at a small school, they can still have the same wrestling background as any other kid in AAA or D2. I know Mt Juliet has one of the largest populated schools in Tn and still has trouble filling a full line up, while Greenbrier has built a solid team with huge numbers, so in this case size doesn't matter.
  8. Don't think you can send an extra kid to state because that region has more kids in a certain weight class. Every year there are certain weight classes that won't fill a full bracket, for example heavy weights, usually have least amount of competition and fewer participants. Also, don't think you could score team points fairly if your sending more kids from certain regions. I agree with you though, it would be nice to have full brackets across the board.
  9. Have done a lot of freestyle in the past, l should have been more clear. I was not referring to Tn refs, we have been to Indiana Iron man several times and the inconsistentcy was very frustrating.
  10. No Twofdr, we did a high school duals state tourney, which is basically nothing like a region duals tourney. If you're scared, just say you're scared. And as far as freestyle goes, I have yet to see two freestyle refs call a match the same, don't think they even know the rules of freestyle.
  11. I like it GFW, If a Grand Championship can't be done, how about a Region Grand Championship Duals after state? Region 6 would definitely be a strong contender.
  12. I definitely agree. I believe Region 6 will surprise a lot of folks.
  13. With all the young adults needing therapy dogs and play dough when they lose these days, is it any wonder they would not put their kids in a sport to teach them how to lose and work hard to win? Unfortunately, I think you will see a continued decline in a great sport.
  14. Don't forget about Walling at 95, he stuck Carney at Regions and would have for sure medaled last year had he not been injured. He's a very strong kid and should make 95 even more exciting.
  15. I believe what his majesty is trying to say is that, although Beech tied Mt. Juliet at districts and MJ won on criteria, Beech was not a very good duals team due to injurys. Beech has some solid wrestlers that should go far at state and accumulate a lot of team points. Beech will finish higher as an individual team versus a duals team.
  16. Henry would have been an excellent choice for OW. I believe he was a #2 seed and ends up regional champion. Just like to see it go to kids that actually had to put forth some effort and wrestle their butt off. Like I said, just wondering what criteria is used when coaches are voting.
  17. Kramer from WC, not that he isn't an outstanding wrestler and not deserving, but there are a lot of outstanding wrestlers at a Regional tournament. He didn't have a lot of competition to secure his regional championship, just as several other regional champions didn't have much competition. Again, not taking anything away from Kramer, a great wrestler, a great kid, and someone that could get OW at most any tournament, but IMO it should go to someone who scored the upset, or came out of nowhere and had an outstanding day of wrestling.
  18. Just wondering what the coaches criteria for OW is. No doubt there are always several wrestlers that are deserving of this award, but giving it to someone that pins everyone who has very little competition is not always the most deserving IMO. And if that is your criteria, than the kid who pinned everyone in the first period should have received it. If a great wrestler truly doesn't have much competition, he is still a great wrestler, but outstanding for that tournament? I'd rather see a kid that wasn't expected to do do anything but had an unusually outstanding tournament and maybe wrestled back for third place. IMO its not an award to be given to an outstanding wrestler, its an award that should be given to a wrestler that wrestles outstanding that tournament.
  19. God is Great, God is Good, let us thank him for his opinion.
  20. Please don't shoot the messenger....but I Have to agree with Newest guy, at high school level, no way is there as much competition at HWT as there is at middle weights. Boykin, great kid, wrestler, family, known him since he was wrestling tots. Also have known King that long as well. King is by far the best pound 4 pound (in my opinion) of any kid in the state. The accolades a wrestler has accomplished is based not only on his talent, but the level of competition he faces. At high school level, most HWT athletic kids are playing football and wrestling as a secondary sport. And thats if the football coach doesn't have his head up his #### and is onboard with wrestling. Great list of kids, know most of them and there parents, this controversy could be debated forever, just glad to see them on the mat and others trying to achieve there success which ultimately grows the sport of wrestling.
  21. Don"t know what middle schools you have been a part of Pummelking, but in our county, middle school wrestling is strictly club. If not for Dads and volunteers, there would be no middle school programs. It is tough to compete with other programs that have sanctioned sports and paid coaches. Even harder to fill a team with kids that will get no recognition from their school, for doing the toughest sport there is. Hats off to all those dads that volunteer their time and spend their weekends in tournaments coaching kids because they love the sport.
  22. Well said Coach, one great wrestler doesn't win a state duals championship. However, PennStateWrestlingFan, a 12 pt. swing in any duals match is a huge factor. Getting a pin vs getting pinned was a big part of Beech not advancing Friday night. Losing two dual matches by a total of 2 points, I think a senior state placer instead of a freshman at that weight class is very significant.

    Region 7

According to stats, Beech had 4 freshman and one sophmore on varsity, great job coach Roberts finishing 4th in state with such a young duals team. Although losing a few, I'm sure WC will be back in the hunt again next year.
  24. Congrats to Cleveland, they were the better team against WC. However, in the 220 Kramer match, the Cleveland kid took so many steps back, I thought he had his singlet on backwards. If he had been in a straight line he could have walked backwards to Cleveland. Worst officiating I have ever witnessed. Made no difference, Cleveland still wins, however stalling was called so inconsistent over the weekend. Kramer won state last year where another kid did the same thing but was hit with 3 stalling calls in the 3rd period. Freestyle rules, point for backing out of bounds? I dont know, but I did see one AAU ref in the stands that couldn't believe that match, need more consistency for sure.
