  1. big week for OC coming up. Could be in second or fourth at the end of it. Keep it up Rebels the crowds ar efinally starting to get behind you.
  2. it was a good measuring stick i believe. I think they know they can hang with the Choctaws when their on the top of their game and that they have a legit shot for that number two spot like you said Purple.
  3. Purple, I think the Rebels proved your assumption of them being a team to back down from physical play wrong last night. I was goverly impressed with those kids out there. Take away the first five minutes of the game where the Rebels commited over ten turnovers and allowed the Choctaws to get up by about 15 and you have yourself a close game at the end ( minus the three foul-outs, which were bogus. I totally agree with the few of you that said something. The officiating was some of the worst I've personally ever seen). To put up over 70 points is a task for the slow-it-down Rebels, and the thought they would still lose is something to wrap your mind around. I'm deeply proud of OC, and this only hammers it home. Great effort boys, don't hang your heads. You fought your hardest till the very end, and trust me, the score was no way indicative of the actual game.
  4. not saying Obion Central should be in the top ten but how can you possibly put a Westview team at number eight after the Rebels spanked them by twenty??? If OC hadn't lost those three games to inferior single A teams you could easily have put them in there. Woulda Coulda Shoulda.
  5. Totally agree, while I can be a a bit of a homer for the Rebels, I definately didn't see a twenty point victory coming last Friday. Keep it up Rebels!
  6. The Rebels should be carrying a little more confidence into this year's matchup than last year. That should make a bigger difference than some people might think. Like I said on a previous thread, DC went from worst to first the previous year, why not Central now? That's why you play the game!!! Go Rebels!!!!
  7. I completely agree...with your last paragraph. I thought there for a second you were going on another Central putdown Purple but I think your finally coming to your senses. They always seem to play hard in my eyes, they just come out with a different mindset (i.e. three single A losses) against teams that they should put away. But honestly, would you rather them have a down night against the likes of a South Fulton, who ultimately mean nothing to what the Rebels are trying to accomplish, or have it against the likes of Dyer County, Dyersburg, etc.? Sure its a confidence booster to kill every team you play and sure you may say it could have a hangover effect, but I say nay to that. Look, we all thought this bunch of young men were no different than their predecessors. Rebel teams before this one wouldn't get up for ANY game, district, rival, or not. That Westview game would have been a letdown from the get-go because people told them they were supposed to lose, so they believed them. This team appears to be, and has proven that they are different. Their demeanor and fire that they display game in and game out is something I haven't seen watching a Central team in quite some time. Sure, maybe state is a lofty goal. Probably even sub-state. But effort and heart covers up flaws. That, in the end, is what they have that many members of this site and even other OC supporters don't see in them, or refuse to. Maybe they haven't hit the meat of their schedule yet, I guess all I want to get across to fellow fans and others as well that maybe we shouldn't be so pessimistic and expect thisrun to end. Maybe it has turned around. Look at Dyer County, 3 wins to the State in one year? It can be done obviously.
  8. Mark it down, if they can get past Milan at Milan, the Lady Rebels won't lose another game during the season. Let's go Central!!! Don't make me have to eat crow!
  9. Mighty big of you GC. I knew your conscious would bring you around to mending fences eventually /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> As far as Central is concerned, I thought they had capabilities to play with the big boys of the district, but not hang a twenty point spankin' on them. I know I know, they have their down games, mainly against teams they shouldn't, ( cough cough, SINGLE A stinkers cough cough) but look at their schedule, after tonight, they will have to play all out the rest of the season. Their isn't one off night left for these Rebels. With the intensity and heart I saw out of them last night, i honestly believe they can play with the likes of Dyer County, etc. Like one poster pointed out before, hustle can mask some of your flaws, but a 64% shooting night and only ten turnovers goes alot further /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> . Keep it up OC, this may be the year something special could happen.
  10. Maybe not hurt someone, but I think he can be sly about making sure his presence is known with cheap elbows and other subtle moves every now and then, as can many others.
  11. their gonna need it. this westview foe won't be an easy task. we should finally find out the true Rebel spirit because if these boys can't get up for this one AT HOME, what can they get up for?
  12. i COMPLETELY agree with the assumption that they should be 12-0 right now. The Halls loss was just a let down in the fourth after a complete effort for three quarters where they stretched the lead out to fifteen or more probably. The loss to Greenfield, while, to me, the Rebels are a better team, I think they just had a hangover from the previous night. So if you could peg a legitamit loss on the Rebels, that would be it. The munford game was just poorly played with only a few kids coming to play that night. That being said, they still took a six point lead into the fourth, but just couldn't finish it off. I think that thats the achilles heel of this ballclub. Sometimes they don't have that killer mentality that tells them its not over until that final horn blows. But hey, who honestly could say that they thought the Rebels should be 12-0 right now at the beginning of the season? Not me thats for sure. I can't wait for tomorrow night and the rest of the season. I haven't been this excited about a Central team in about ten years. Go Rebels!!!!!!
  13. i was listening to this game and it just seemed like they weren't clicking the first half. Surprisingly they came out firing on all cylinders the third quarter and with their normal intensity. Just seemed like in the third quarter that they got away from what got them back into the game. The Cougars killed them from 12 ft and in with little jumpshots and/or putbacks. Gibson stepped up big alongside Owens and Gilliam, but it just wasn't enough in the end. The Rebels did get back on track Saturday night with a beatdown of Hickman County, KY. The score was in no way indicative of the game. I believe the Rebels were up by 20 or more when the B team was placed in the game. IMO, I don't have any clue what to take out of this weekend of basketball for OC.On one hand they look flat with only one or two kids making any impact. On the other hand you have Saturday night where four or five players all score double digits and their defense is more ferocious and they blow teams outta the gym. Its a mindboggling thought at times. All in all, I think you take a postive from this week going 2 and 1. It might not be a perfect week, but the important thing is that they didn't lose that district game. Like I've always thought, it's better to lose now than lose in February. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  14. I agree. The student section has drastically fell in numbers since the last game I attended at Central (Fulton County). I think with the size of the gym, the obvious basketball craze in the county thats been there for a good while, and a postively charged student section, the Lady Rebels and Rebels could make Troy a scary place to come. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  15. vaughn's a versatile player but OC shut him down tonight. he couldn't get into his normal slasher type role. Just another great win for the new-look Rebels!!vaughn's a versatile player but OC shut him down tonight. he couldn't get into his normal slasher type role. 16. haven't seen you around these parts in a while tree....nice to have another Rebel supporter back though.
  17. anybody have their predictions ready for this one? I say OC by 10+. I'd say more becuase I think the Rebels can build a big lead, but haven't figured out to sustain it just yet.
  18. lets turn this into something more relavent seein how this game has already come to pass. Let's hear the thoughts on the Milan-OC game tomorrow night?
  19. anybody got a quick, non-biased, overview of both teams from this game?
  20. i agree it was a feat by the Pioneers, while on the other hand Central MUST find a way to put the petal to the medal and finish a game when they get up big. Like i already said they've done it before. I know myself and many other Rebel fans are gonna have an ulcer or two if this type game keeps happening. BUT, if they can build these leads and sustain them, man, they're gonna be tough to deal with. On any given night they have five scorers' on the floor at one time. People had mentioned their weak post play before, and last night the Matt Harner and Brady Boucher really stepped up and handled GC's bigs for the most part. Masagna had some points but mostly off put-backs and Ellis was never really a factor. While giving up the big leads scares me, I'm nothing but more excited about this season after last night. Way to go Rebels!!!!
  21. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> i think i'll let you go with just a "i told ya so" GC. But to be honest you shoulda have been right, only the other way around. Tjhe game was busted open and should of have been closed near the end of regulation but once again the Rebels let a big lead slip away. Same exact thing happend with Halls and a few other teams, with the Tigers being the only team able to take advantage of it. Gilliam and Hudson were outstanding tonight. I thought the rain had started to fall in the gym with all the bombs being put up. In the end, what a ball game though. Congrats to the Rebs, and keep playing hard GC, you guys have a lot to build on this season.
  22. i hope the Rebel Train comes out in full force and supports the Rebels and Lady Rebels to the last tip. I don't think they realize how much they can actually get the players' spirits up and keep them going. Good luck tonight to both teams. GO CENTRAL!!!!
  23. I really hope the kids that have taken over the scoring load during Gilliam's abscense can keep it up when he returns. They are SO much more dangerous when those select two or three do.
