Now come on guys...comparing 30pts in Bball or Football to 30 pts in softball is like comparing Apples & Baseball bats. It's not even a close analogy...only similarity would be sports. You ever seen a softball game score 14+ points in a minute of play like you can in bball or football? No, your lucky to get through one batter in a minute. I'm not from York & not really a big fan of York either but I saw the score & it just ran all over me. We all know there is a winner & a loser...it's reality but as a coach of 14 yrs I have never came close to that kind of score & trust I have had girls who could of. I always make my girls hit their best & play their best...we don't dumb it down for anyone but YES I have called time & told my base runners to all lead off early & end the inning(if the defense is struggling pretty bad). I have had nothing but Thank yous after the game from Coaches & Parents. It's not to embarrass anyone it's having respect for the game & others. Now that being said I have always respected Bond & his game....without a doubt the best coach in our district & has been even when I played....well back & forth between him & Danny McCormick back in the day:) I know the next few years DeKalb will be at the top of this district not just because of him but I believe they have one of the best grade school coaches around too. Those kids are ready without a doubt when they get to High School. However, even with great coaching...you have to lead by example & teach character. You know where I learned the mercy rule without letting up on your play...from Coach McCormick many years ago. So, while I know DeKalb has an amazing team & was hands down the best team....you can't tell me winning by 30 was necessary. You can't explain that away. I know the game is over & everyone will move on but I hope I never see something like that again or I have to admit my respect for one of the best coaches around would start to diminish.

I have much respect for Bond & his program but this was ridiculous. Yes, you tell your girls to get out on purpose before you run the score up 31 in 3 innings!!!! First you tell your girls not to change their play...swing hard & run bases good but when you see the game is getting way out of control (should have noticed in 1st inning) you have them get out. Don’t dumb it down or not play your best, but instead as a coach YOU have your girls lead off early & make 3 outs at once to end the inning....THAT IS EXACTLY what you do. In your own words you said maybe 10 hittable balls....so how it that helping DeKalb’s hitters even those he subbed in? I know for my girls slower or erratic pitchers hurt my batters more than anything. When she walked bases loaded I would have called time & had all 3 lead off early. So, as far as Tiger Pride 23 asking how do you say "Ok girls I know this is your only chance for playing time but I need you to go get out for me"...you say it because your team does what you tell them! THAT IS PART OF IT….THEY RESPECT YOU & WILL DO WHAT YOU ASK EVEN IF THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND IT. Think this helped your girls since there were “Less than 10 hittable balls†or helped York getting beat like that? From reading post Dekalb has beat everyone they have come in contact with, so, I’m sure your Freshman have had plenty of play time in varsity & I’m sure JV games help too. So you can’t use that as an excuse. I have to give York CF credit for stepping up when called on….. Not a pitcher but she did what her coach asked, didn’t ask questions & never gave up. That would mean more to me than beating a team by 31.
  3. Miss Basketball AA......Mac Sells!!!!!! Hogeye is so proud of you Mac! Well deserved award for an amazing girl! I look forward to watching you at MTSU! Congratulations to Kayla Biles & Jenna Adams also...you both are great players and had great careers.
  4. Let me start by saying congrats to DeKalb. In my opinion DeKalb has one of the best Coaches in High School Softball. Bonds should be Coach of the year every year in our District. When I was in High School LA/DeKalb/York were the big rivals & always fought for the title...it was nice to see LA & DeKalb in the rival position again. You have to give LA credit...they came in to this tourney as the underdogs and surprised some people by making it to the finals. I knew they could once they started playing like a team! They have so much to be proud of! Let’s keep it rolling HOGEYE!!!
  5. Congrats OOP! 1,000 points is a great accomplishment. I’m proud of you.
  6. This was to close to call obstruction or interference but you could argue a case either way. From the picture, I would have just called her out because from the pic she has the ball first and it doesn't look like she set up to Obstruct the ball led her into the path but real life was probably a different story. Joey T, every ump has their own look on the game because so much of it is judgment, what you are arguing isn??™t cut and dry it is judgment. You see it one way I see it the other. You have to make a call and you don't have all day to analyze it either. Had the girl slid (yes yes before anyone says anything I KNOW SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO SLIDE)I might have called her safe(I know the ruling was safe because of obstruction) because when you slide it is harder to tell who caught the ball or touched base first first. That is not in the book anywhere it is a fact that it is harder to call the play if the girl hits the dirt(in a close play). Umpires know you are not to guess an out, if it's so close you can't tell??¦ call safe. I'm sure this play in question was not as it seems in the pic. The ump saw the whole picture and made the call...either way people are going to disagree because it is his judgment obstruction was caused by the catcher. We all have different views of calls but the man on the field win no matter what we think.
  7. My goodness how freaking old are you? You sound so stupid. I will go out on a limb and guess you are the village idiot? I'm not from Putnam Co. or Jackson Co. or even in their district. I have watched Taylor for the past 3 years and she is a great kid/player/team mate. I coached her one year in the summer and I can tell you she is a smart pitcher. You joined Coach T two days ago so why has this subject sparked you so much to join the boards? If you??™re calling all these people out you need to just grow a pair and tell them who you are. Yeah, that won??™t happen because you only feel big behind a screen. Go back to that big important life you have and leave these kids out of it. Here is a title for you-Village Idiot
  8. She does have her leg blocking but she also has the ball. If you have the ball you don't have to "allow" the runner to do anything. This is with out a doubt a very close play and I'm sure the ump had to make a quick decision. Seeing this picture we can analyze it but in real time it's not always that easy.
  9. You are on to something, I pick #3 to take it all! I needed a good laugh this morning! Thx When is the last time you remember this many rainouts? I know the two tourneys my area teams were set to go to have been rained out.
  10. Yes, you come off as a jealous little schoolgirl. Just so you know, I am not a sir. I have played at a higher level also and yes I played ball all over. So you say "I have done at a lot higher level than single A high school ball or college" So your telling us your pro? lol You mentioned baseball so are you a guy that she rejected?lol Jealous schoolgirl or bitter rejected guy. Which ever one you are it??™s sad you have to come on a web site to get your digs at her. Don't have "last word syndrome" just let it go.
  11. Your right that was like throwing chum in the water in a pool of sharks.
  12. See is this why I love open forums, everyone sees it different and that??™s always good for conversation. I am the same way, if it??™s close my girls know not to go in standing up. I??™m sure one if not both these girls hit the ground. I agree with you it probably didn??™t go through her mind that the throw would bring the catcher across the plate and she thought she could run through. See you could argue interference by the runner if you really tried. What you said about ???Sliding slows the runner down and running through the plate would have gotten her to the plate faster.??? How can you hold the catcher accountable for obstruction and not hold the runner accountable for interference? The picture showed that the ball was at the plate first(I know in real time it was not as easy to tell). The ball is in her glove before the player hits the plate and in interference she has to try to avoid contact. See I said if I were behind the plate I wouldn??™t have called obstruction or interference, this was one of those close plays that both players didn??™t expect and contact/obstruction wasn??™t intentional. I made my husband(Ump for 15yrs) come look at the picture and he said the same thing, the picture looks out. He made a good point it can??™t be obstruction if she has the ball. She has the right to make the out force or not if she has the ball and unfortunately it let her in the base path but she does have the ball. Do you just expect her to move and let the runner have the plate? The runner has the same opportunity to the plate but if the ball gets there before her she is out. That being said we both agree being there makes a big difference. It??™s so easy to say what we would do I??™m sure this was a hard call in the moment.
  13. Jealousy is not an appealing characteristic to have. It is such a sad obsession. Just let it go.
  14. Things always are different when you are watching it live but here is my take on it. You can't blame all this on the catcher. Dore 83 hit it on the head, the runners responsibility as a runner is to try to avoid contact just like the catcher is not to block the base before having the ball. Is the catcher supposed to stand back and give the runner the base when it??™s close? We all know the answer to that. It looks like the catcher set up on the front part of the plate and the catch led her into the path. It??™s a lot like 1st base calls when the baseman goes into the base path what do you call? You have to see it to make the right call and even then people will think other wise. Me personally I wouldn??™t have called obstruction because the play was that close. I would have called it straight up & If I were behind the plate it wouldn??™t have set good with me that she didn??™t attempt to slide or something. Coaches tell their kids when it??™s that close you need to get down not go in standing. I know there is no slide rule before anyone fires back but we all know that collisions like that gets kids hurt. I agree Kudos to the photographer.
  15. Silent, Why does it matter what the reason was for the transfer to JC? Why did it strike a nerve with you for you to talk crap about her to begin with? Regardless the reason Taylor is still a teenager and you need to check yourself at the door when you??™re talking about any kid, unless you are a kid than that would explain your demeanor toward her. Taylor Adkins is a great athlete, she plays Volleyball, Basketball and Softball. Anytime you have a girl who is a good athlete along with being a petty girl you WILL have jealousy for many different reasons. I have heard it come out of her mouth, "Softball is my fav sport". I will agree JC wouldn't be my first choice to go for Softball but i'm sure she looked at many different factors when she made her decision. WHICH WAS HER DECISION not your or anyone elses. I can tell you this, Taylor has game smart that you can't teach. She is probably one of the smartest pitchers I have ever watched in the area. Considering you just joined yesterday I would guess you are either a jealous kid or a parent whose kid played in her shadow. Of course that??™s just a guess, a guess that is based on how you came at her.
  16. I would have loved to of seen that! I bet everyone was looking around like what happened? I love when kids think the game! I had an ump argue with me about a pitch that hit the dirt in front of the plate and the batter swung. He called a BALL! We all know there are umps that don't know half the rules. Don't get me wrong you have crazy situations happen all the time and some things aren't so black and white in the book but not knowing simple rules like dropped 3rd, pitch hitting the dirt and stuff like that just blows my mind.
  17. That is priceless! /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  18. Your right but spectators mostly think that if it hits dirt that's what makes the difference.
  19. I have seen this happen a lot but it is like a double edge sword, you wait then you get yelled at and if you call it early you take a chance on it being a good hit ball and still get yelled at. At least he admitted he called it too soon, not many people like to admit they are wrong. I??™m guessing he was probably a good ump. I have made some bone head calls before, I remember when I first started to Ump and one of the first calls of the game I said out but threw the safe sign. She was out but my actions showed different, that was not my most shinning monent.lol After that I always had a 2-3 second delay on all my calls to make sure I saw it completely and let it register before I called.
  20. Infield fly is hard to call. Umpires have to call it in plenty of time so everyone knows what??™s going on, they can't wait to see if it's in dirt. I have called infield fly many times and it be right outside the infield, it is a judgment call and you only have a few seconds to make it. Some times you nail it and sometimes they are a little deeper than you thought. It is a tough call. Even on an IF runners can make things happen if the ball is not caught. Dropped third strike is pretty simple, if it hits dirt before it hits the catchers??™ glove, it gets by her or if she drops it with less than two out and 1st base un occupied they runner can run. If a runner is on 1st, offensively I hope the catcher is not paying attention and I send my girl on to 2nd and get a steal. The batter is out anyway she just kind of creates a diversion. I can't do it on sharp catchers though. lol Alright, here is another one. On a drop 3rd strike with two outs the runner can go regardless if the base is occupied or not. I know it's confusing but the easiest way to remember is you have to physically make the 3rd out. You have to tag her or get it to the base first. So many people argue about the 3rd out/drop 3rd strike.
  21. Well actually that is closer to what my girls do on a bunt. They are complete forward motion but watching the ball till it hits dirt. A straight steal in my book is head on that base and one job to complete. I think it is good to pick others brains about why they do stuff, it's all good conversations. Coaching is great, I loved playing softball but there is nothing like teaching a kid something new and seeing that spark go off in them and they get it. As far as coaching, dealing with parents is the biggest task. I have been very lucky, in the last 9 years I have only had one problem with a parent about anything. Before season starts I am very up front about what I expect and how I coach and I tell them if they aren??™t on the same page they can leave now. I have zero tolerance for parents causing trouble in the stands or players causing trouble in the dug out. My famous line is ???there is only one Queen Bee and that??™s me???. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  22. Like it or not we all know losing is part of the game, I just think his approach stinks. Even after saying that, I never thought I would say this(out loud) but I like his take on the games.
  23. I don't know if you are getting my point? The coach in question told his player to steal on a bunt and then yelled at her for getting doubled out. I was telling why I don??™t straight out steal with a bunt, I want my runners to be smart base runners and think for themselves (of course if I tell them to do something, what I say goes). I explain things a lot, I want my players to know and understand why I tell them to do things. That being said let me clear it up, I do call steals, a lot. I just want my girls to know on a bunt that they are going but watching to make sure it hits dirt. There is a difference and that??™s what I??™m trying to make clear, I can??™t explain it I would have to show you. Lol You tell a girl to steal she has one job at that moment and she better get her butt to that base and slide. If she hesitates and gets out it??™s on her, if she busts it and still gets out it??™s on me. The answer to your question is NO I don??™t ???instruct your batters to never even swing at a pitch if the steal sign has been given???. I do call hit & run and most the time leave it with the hitter if the steal is on. Of course you take a chance on a double play every time you put a steal hit/slap/bunt on. In my opinion there is a difference if the ball is swung at and hit pop up and a bunt pop up. Most your pop ups are quick off the bat to your catcher with a straight out swing you should have more time to try to get back if you are stealing and it is popped up. I feel like the risk is much higher if you steal on a bunt to get doubled out. I definitely practice bunting a lot but if the batter doesn??™t keep the bat head up, just not focusing or picks a bad pitch it will pop up or straight into the catcher??™s glove. Most things in softball are risks and you just have to roll with them but I choose not to straight out steal on a bunt.
  24. I think we are on the same page.
