  1. Oakland 13-Shelbyville 3 in 5 innings.
  2. Well they turned around and beat Morristown West 16-1 and have swept White County. Tonights game was an OHS slugfest 17-2.
  3. Tye McCleary and Cory Sorgenfrei
  4. It's true, Watson walked away Friday night after an hour long heated arguement with the coaching staff. Pats came back to win their next game Saturday though. Oakland had 3 homers including a grand slam by P J Polk. Remains to be seen how Watsons departure this time will affect the team.
  5. Oakland wins 3-2. Good pitching from the White House starter held the Pats down a bit. Tyler Bowman did a good job as the starter for Oakland. Eric Renfroe and BIG Brennan Stender closed it out. A few kids who were seemingly White House supporters (one guy was wearing a White House cap) came over to the Oakland side and started harrassing Patriot players. Didn't seem to bother them to use every four letter word they could think of right in front of the players moms and everyone else within ear shot. The White House parents didn't seem to know them so all we could figure was that they came over to specifically start trouble. Everyone be on the look out. Incidents like this sore can put a damper on a good game.
  6. He's only 16. His parents started him early in school.
  7. Riverdales lefty Choate is a Junior. He was also a member of the travel team with the 5 sophmores from Oakland and the SS from Smyrna.
  8. Oakland High school has 6 sophmores and 3 freshman playing varsity this season. One additional sophmore will be eligible to play after the district tournament. Five of the sophmores played together on a travel team that finished 4th in a 12 and under USSSA World Series, and 3rd in a USYBA World Series. They also finished 1st in at least 3 TN state tournaments, including the USSSA Majors State tournament, starting when they were 7. They should be a force to be reckoned with their junior and senior years.
  9. Farragut did lose 2 last year. One game lost was to Oakland during the Warrior Classic.
  10. Rusty Howard led a strong Oakland defense into Mt Juliet this evening and came away with a 4-0 shutout of the Bears. Steven Watson started the scoring with a home run off the top of the right field fence to put the Pats on top 1-0 and they never looked back. Behind the strong pitching of Howard, Tyler Bowman and Andy Berg, the Pats improve to 5-2.
  11. Tyler Bowman started the evening. Josh Farmer came after Bowman. Andy Berg closed it out.
  12. I certainly would not call the Oakland/Siegel rivalry ridiculous. Siegel High came about when the school was first built and about half of the population from Oakland were switched to Siegel. Several of the current Siegel baseball players were once Oakland players; mostly juniors and seniors. The fact that Oakland has bested Siegel on the baseball field every game so far does not negate the fact that a rivalry does ineed exist in every sport between the two schools.
  13. Oakland defeated BGA 12-9 in 7 innings. After a slow start; down 7-1 after 2 innings; the Patriots put it high gear the last 5 innings for the victory. Let's hear how other teams did.
  14. Lets hear how teams did in there scrimmages this weekend. I think Oakland may have surprised Goodpasture Friday evening. Oakland sophmore Andy Berg struck out 6 and allowed only 1 run in 4 innings of work. Senior Tyler Bowman then came out strong striking out several and allowing only 1 run in 4 innings. Sophmore Eric Renfroe came in to close in the top of the ninth and allowed only 2 runs. Goodpastures pitching was also thrilling to watch. One of their left handers kept the Patriots in check for most of his 5 innings of work. Their defense always seemed to be right where the Pats would hit it. Oakland finally broke through about the middle of the game with a 4 run inning and went on to defeat the defending class A state champions 7-4. Way to go Patriots!
  15. One of the best junior pitchers in the state is Chason Choate of Riverdale. I have watched Choate throw since he was 11 and he without doubt has to be one of best left handers going. is very good in the outfield and at the plate also. And get this, he's only 16.
  16. Another noteworthy sophmore hurler from Oakland is Tyler Burnett. He will likely be pitching relief most of the time though since he has made it known that he wants to concentrate on the SS postion.
  17. Andy Berg and Eric Renfroe of Oakland High School are excellent control pitchers. Berg is said to have 4 pitches. Renfroe is right there with him but has a little more on his fast ball. Brennan Stender of Oakland is 6'5" tall and has a smokin' fast ball but can have control toubles from time to time. When any one of these pitchers is on he can be awesome.
  18. Riverdale won the 7-AAA District regular season title last season. Oakland won the 7-AAA District tournament with a strong win over Riverdale in the championship game.
  19. Oakland came out strong their first game today defeating Columbia 6-3 in 5 innings. The bats were flat and the opposing teams defense solid as a rock as Clarksville took the pats in the next game 4-1.
  20. One of the biggest rivalries in the state of TN of course has to be Oakland and Riverdale, otherwise known locally as "The Battle of the 'Boro". Fast approaching 2nd would be Oakland vs siegel.
  21. The Oakland Patriots defeated Whitehouse 11-7 in 6 innings this evening. Seniors Tyler Bowman and Josh Farmer pitched the first 3 innings. 6'5" sophmore Brennan Stender carried the last 3 innings. Powerful hitting was the rule of the day for the Patriots.
  22. Don't overlook the other sophmores at Oakland. Drew Fann is as smart a young catcher as there is out there and swings a good bat. Andy Berg is a fine young pitcher with four pitches, fast ball, slider, change up, and a wicked curve ball. Brennan Stender is 6' 5" tall with an awesome fast ball. Eric Renfroe is another pitcher with a lot of control and a little more on his fast ball than Berg. There are also a couple of freshman on the Varsity who will likely see playing time.
