  1. Looks like today's scrimmage has been rescheduled for Monday.
  2. Payne will be leaving. However, I believe Monterey only had one senior starter last year, so even with this departure, should have three starters back.
  3. I believe they've got Stone on the 9th in Baxter and Kingston on the 16th at Tech (there's usually at least a third team at this scrimmage, not sure this year). Pre-season they've got Trousdale, Friendship and a couple others I believe.
  4. Maybe someone who understands basketball better than me can help explain something. Upperman got the ball with a minute to go in the second quarter, down 4. My thought would be to try and score, get a stop, try to score again and go in no worse than tied. Instead, they worked the clock all the way down and shot an off balance 20 footer at the buzzer. Obviously not a coach here, so just curious about the strategy.
  5. You're probably right. I can see the argument on both sides, Don't want to see anyone with permanent issues, but kinda hate where the game is headed. Hard to see any kind of middle ground where you play a physical sport and eliminate the potential for injury. Thanks for the info and good luck this weekend.
  6. Okay, so you said this, why should I ask anyone else? All I'm asking is where do the rules say there is a 10 yd non-contact rule?
  7. Agreed, nothing changes the outcome of the game. However, name calling and saying move on are not discussion points, they sound like diversions. I've officiated, I've read the rules and I'm not here to argue, only to understand. Just trying to get some clarification on previous comments where rules may have changed. This is a discussion board, win, lose or draw does not effect who can discuss what as long as it doesn't violate the rules of the site. So, if you would, please clarify the touching rule and the "contact" rule in the context of what can be seen clearly on video. Thanks
  8. If you're referencing NFHS (not sure if this is what T$$AA uses or not) it says: "Any K player may recover the ball before it goes beyond R’s free-kick line if it is touched first by any receiver." In the video, it appears the A player touches the ball first. The rule says nothing about contact in 10 yds.
  9. Not that it makes any difference now, but what does it matter if he touched him, blocked him, before he touched the ball, after, whatever?
  10. I was able to attend Coach Caine's first team meeting after he was hired and he said two things that stuck out. He said they were going to get prepared to beat Cookeville and to compete with Alcoa. I figured it was mostly coach speak because what else is he going to say other than they want to beat their biggest rival and compete with the top of the classification. Turns out, he believed it. More importantly, he got buy in and got the players and staff to believe it. Congratulations on a great season Upperman. Just a shame it was taken out of your hands. Unfortunately, that's football and that's life. Sometimes, you can do everything you should, and it will still go against you. Tough lesson, but one you can learn from none the less.
  11. Alcoa's coach made that call. From the other side of the field.
  12. Chatted with some Red Bank fans after the game and they're good folk. Congratulations on a great season and look forward to continued success for both teams and future match-ups. Pretty closely matched and has gone back and forth the past few years.
  13. Maybe the McCalls and Gores slipped in as the unnamed supporters. Didn't want to ruffle any non-Owl feathers in business or politics by showing favoritism. Anyways, on the coaching front, I'll throw a name out there with a disclaimer because I don't know if there would be any interest by either party. I just wonder if after a year off, Herron would still have the itch?
  14. Interesting, never would've thought that. Seems like those two would have been good resources through the years.
