  2. Top 5: 1.) Reiniche - Baylor 2.) Kramer- Wilson Central 3.) Martin- Willam Blount 4.) Horst- Beech 5.) Palmer - Beech Watch for Rippy from Beech to come back strong this year and make some noise.
  3. Not sure what Scott Taylor has against Noah Horst. I know Noah may have been a bit rough with Emory at Cleveland earlier in the year but that's just wrestling. Whitworth is great kid and I'm sure at some point in their careers they will wrestle a match. They have trained together in the past at different times and are friends. Scott, no need to point out who has beat Noah in the past. He doesn't delete any event on Track nor does he run from competition. As Noah's father, I am very proud of what he has accomplished and thank each and every coach, wrestler, parent & even those who don't give him any credit for making him the young man he has become. He does read these comments and it pushes him to just wrestle harder. Sam Latona did give Noah is only loss this year and after the match, I thanked Sam and his dad Norm for whopping him so bad. These kids can get comfortable and think they are working hard enough. Noah came back after his loss and worked harder! Noah wants to get better and for a kid that just turned 15 in January and winning a state title, I think he is doing alright.
  4. Tyler Seeley pinned Whitworth before he got the chance to wrestle Horst at Spring Youth Nationals.
  5. Is anyone else tired of seeing forfeits? How many times have you gone to watch a match and some to the matches you want to see are simply forfeited? I understand that in a team event the goal of the coach is to simply win the event. Once the match is won or they don't like the match up, I see more teams taking the forfeit approach. Is this the only sport where forfeiting matches is acceptable? Super Bowl Sunday! The Falcons win by forfeit due to the officials checking the air pressure of the footballs before the game... So the Patriots forfeit !! I'm sure the wrestlers who have worked hard to prepare for the matches want to wrestle. I understand not wanting to get hurt, etc; but don't the wrestlers come prepared to wrestle? Ask any wrestler if they want to train all week or all year and go out and have their hand raised without wrestling anyone.... Something needs to change... 8 points per forfeited match may not be enough.. Maybe if you forfeit that weigh class then you have to forfeit that weight class for the next 2 matches? (Same as DQ) Exceptions made for injury, of course...
  6. This match makes you really think about forfeits... If you have a forfeit, does that mean that you can't fill the team? I've heard that forfeits may be changed to 8 points from 6... Even if they were changed to 7 points with the tie breaker in a match starting with a forfeit, I bet each and every coach would work harder to fill the team. A lot of confusion around the match between Beech and Mt. Juliet. Mt. Juliet won and that's it. Let's get the forfeit rule changed and see how many additional wrestlers we can add to the sport.
  7. Who is coming to the warm up event? Would love to see a lot of kids putting in some pre-season mat time!
  8. Bottom line... Southeast Regions is a good event. Have been there several years but if I have to choose between the 2 events, I choose the National Duals every time. 131 total middle school wrestlers vs. 84 middle school teams. 449 Cadets and Juniors vs. 168 high school teams 132 Bantem, Intermediate and Novice vs how ever many Elementry teams.... The numbers do not compare! The competition does not compare! How many Nationally Ranked wresters were at the Southeast Region tournament? Maybe an idea would be to move the Southeast Regions to the same weekend as the Northeast Regions (4/29-5/1) so that the kids could do both the Regions and the NATIONAL Duals. As I have been reminded by a few college wrestlers and coaches throughout the years, You need to wrestle the top wrestlers in the country to get better. You can wrestle 20 matches in a tournament and win all 20 by tech or PIN. Did you get better? You have to wrestle against better wresters to get better.
  9. I agree that Freestyle and Greco are important and would rather wrestle those styles this time of year, however, going after the best competition in the country can be more important. Southeast Regions participation numbers are falling off and the level of competition doesn't compare to what was at VA Beach.
  10. Noah Horst competed with the Indiana Outlaws Gold middle school team; Daniel Uhorchuk competed with SC Palmetto middle school team; I believe 2 more of the Uhorchuk boys competed and Ashton Davis competed as well.
  11. Just came back from a great weekend of wrestling at the NHSCA National Duals in VA Beach. TN had a few wrestlers there this weekend, but we are really missing out by not sending more teams to this tournament! This tournament had 71 Elementary teams, 84 middle school teams and 168 High School Teams all wrestling in one building. I haven't been to a better ran event. We had our duals scheduled and we ran ahead of schedule every day and our duals were all wrestled during certain time periods(Day 1 and 2 from 12:30 to 4:30), and if you made it to day 3 you started wrestling around 9 until you were put out.
  12. Cleveland Father Ryan 106 Bryce Pond vs James Killian 113 Phillip Freeman vs Christian Simpson 120 Michael Whiteside vs Raymond Eason 126 Tristan Blansit vs Trey Chalifoux 132 Colton Landers vs Joey Vogelpohl 138 Cody Mathews vs Kirby Simpson 145 Caleb Eachus vs Daniel Wesley 152 Seth Eachus vs Eli King 160 Steven Wilson vs Jake Wilson 170 Robert Hicks vs Robert Garstin 182 Riley Stevison vs Andrew Wesnofske 195 Samual Grarcia vs George Hooker 220 Jacob Martinez vs Ben Stacey 285 Michael Lewis vs Jeremy Darvin Should be some great matches here. The lighther weights will be some great matches. 126 has the top ranked AAA against the top ranked Divison II. 113 and 120 is two of the best freshmen against the top Division II.
  13. Who wants to predict how this one will go this year? Can any one tell us if Cleveland will stream it live?
  14. Great matches this past weekend at the MTSU Alumni Duals. Middle School Division results: 1. Spring Station 2. Blackman 3. Richview 4. Beech 5. Oakland 6. Black & Gold (Hendersonville) The Blackman/Richview match was another close one, with the dual coming down to the final 2 matches for the second time this year. Look for those teams to fight to win the Central Tennessee Middle School Conference this year. Congrats to Pete Miller and the Spring Station staff for winning both the Middle School and High School duals this past week end!
  15. Look for Blackman to make some noise this year as their Middle School program continues to grow. Attended a dual event on Monday evening at Oakland where Blackman dominated Oakland, Warren County and Beech. The thing that really stood out was the number of wrestlers at the event. Both Oakland and Blackman looked to have over 40 kids representing their middle school programs. Glad to see the sport of wrestling continue to grow!
