We will beat the dawgs of warts by 50. From the sounds of it they are in very hard times not only in the win column but with the lack of support from administration, the community and poor coaching.

No one will last at this place. I spent a few years in Maynardville and can tell you the parents and kids have no respect for anything. They expect everyone to do everything for them. No community support what so ever for sports. The little league teams are unheard of. Its just a bad situation all together. The quality of individual in that county is very low and I dont expect that to change. No jobs in the area so drugs are common with almost 70% of families in the county.

I'm thinking now that Sunbright might over take Jellico. Iv heard some good things about the new head coach but im thinking they will lose to Wartburg. To much to get done in such a short period of time.

I would disagree with you on the lack of fan support as I would compare us to many of the same teams from the region. You must of not been to a Harriman vs. Kingston game over the last 20 years but its pretty impressive.

I dont have much faith in the staff at Wartburg to win a game with five all-state players let alone one transfer from Coalfield.

This has happened for years at Coalfield. Those poor ole Morgan County schools have been taken advantage of for years by the ole jackets. At one time I remember they had like four all state kids and all four were from other schools.

How was Oakdale looked in scrimmage play so far? How are the numbers? I was relly impressed with how much improvement the eagles have made over the last 5 years.

There is no way Coalfield would beat AE, they would compete in the region but they would finish behind AE, Grace, and would stand a good chance on losing to a Sweetwater or Rockwood team. The weekly grind day in and day out is tough. They would take a more physical beating week in and out in 2a.

I agree that AE should beat everyone but I have a feeling they will slip up once. There is no way Rockwood gets beat by Tellico, OZ or Wartburg.

I have been a critic of Tapps since he was at Oakdale. The guy reminds me of Davis at Wartburg. Very predictable and Boring but he is a hard worker and is a likable person. I feel like our program would be in much better shape with a younger new age coach but that will never happen as Travis is a Blue Devil but it does get old seeing us with more talent lose games.

New news from the round table. Supposedly Wartburg Middle school has a good coach hired and is doing a good job. I haven't watched much Middle School ball in years but that's a good start in the right direction. It was also discussed on why Davis was hired again a few months back and was supposedly because the Wartburg High Administration didn't open any jobs inside the school for a coach and the only option they had was hire a teacher that was already there and the best candidate from that pool was Davis. He also said that there isn't even a football coach in the school building that they hired a girls basketball coach instead. So from the sound of it, it does sound like football is on the back burner. I cant imagine that would be true but the source was a very good source as he is a retired teacher from Morgan County. If it is true the community needs to demand answers and action.

I'm a bit older than you lol, I played Against some good Kingston teams and played them the year when they went to the state championship and got beat by Brentwood Academy. Iv never seen a more physical team in high school since that Kingston team. After we played that team I was black and blue and hardly could walk.

Sorry, I remember reading where he was at one of them just couldn't remember correctly. At any rate hope they are able to turn around the program because if Wartburg is good its good for our area.

Jacketman you hit everything on the head from what was said at our round table of coffee drinkers. Truly sad times on the mountain from what it sounds like. They hired Davis back after firing him in or around 2008 so you know they were desperate, just didn't care or no one wanted the job. Then they have another failed head high school coach in Trout who either coached at Wartburg or Oakdale as the head coach in the early 1990's or late 1980's then coached middle school ball. Sounds like the community needs to get involved more and start to fix these problems or it could be years before we see a competitive game with these guys.

This will be another knockdown and drag out guys. We lost a lot at Harriman but have reloaded and will give Kingston a run for their money. It will be a very close ball game and Harriman will pull this out 14-13 by blocking a PAT if Travis Tapp doesn't screw it up for us, AGAIN. I never beat the Jackets while I was in high school and still wish to this day we could replay those games because we let them get into our heads. We were the better team two out of the four years but they were a tougher team im not afraid to admit that.

After talking to the Tuesday morning coffee crew, two of which are from the mountain and played at Wartburg and one other who has worked in sports radio for many years have said its a pretty dark time for the program. No one had anything positive to say about the program right now only saying the program is just holding on by a thin thread and must be desperate if they hired two failed coaches in Davis and Trout to coach. They even said they heard rumors it had been discussed about dropping football. We didn't get to speak long about the dawgs of warts but if their own is talking this bad about the program it must be bad up the mountain. I remember when they were beyond tough under Davis at one point in the early 2000's and really tough under the heavy set coach in like 2009 or 2010 who ran the up-tempo offense.

Im excited about this season, I know we lost a lot of talent but look at our schedule we have four guaranteed wins with Wartburg,Sunbright, Unaka, and Jellico. Midway always plays us tough but they are down this year so I think we take that game as well. Thats five wins easy.. Oneida is down but they are always tough even if they are down. Look for us to take the region over Coalfield this year. Go Devils! Any word from the dogs up the mountain? I had seen where Larry Davis is returning as the head coach and I would assume as the offensive coordinator as well and former middle school coach Ronny Trout will be the defensive coordinator. I know the program has been down for years but there seemed to be a lot of excitement around the program last year even going 0-10 and it could translate to this year because the coaching staff has been there long enough to get the players to buy in and learn the systems.
