  1. I have been told its being led by the seniors, most of the sophomores and freshmen are wanting to play. I heard McKinney was resigning this coming Monday!
  2. Old24eagle I have the utmost respect for you and your statement, what does Unaka have to lose by adding a few Jv games? They aren't really competitive on Friday, right now anyways. They don't hit during practice afraid of injuries. Then get in varsity games and can't keep up with game speed. Most of those kids are defeated before the next scoreboard is already turned on.
  3. I heard and was told the same thing by a person close to Ensor. I believe there is 5 playing from the 8th grade group. I agree why would you schedule 2 a size schools to play for ooc games. Going back to the Jv games, 2 games would be fine. Reward the younger kids for busting their tails with a game that starts at 0. Not one that's 50+ already and everyone is ready to get out of town.
  4. Exactly what I am saying, do I think Unaka could compete at state every year. No, do I think they can be competitive in the county and region yes. Why people want to blame the children instead of the "the leaders" are beyond me! Orngnblk with less than 300 kids do you all have jv games?
  5. Fact is that Unaka has 300 plus students has to be a few talented players in the halls somewhere. From what I have seen and been around the talent is over looked and pushed to EHS or Hampton. Sad that the Lyons boys travel all the way up to Hampton instead of Unaka. Everyone knows that the best kids don't play. The coaches truly don't care as long as they get paid and keep their jobs. Yes Dugger knows his game but he can't recruit kids to play. That's part of the job as well, he should be able to find more than 1 senior. Excuses are the reason the programs are in this state of despair. Blame it on the kids not wanting to play. The kids don't play because coaches, No jv team in football, even when there were 28 kids and 9+ freshmen that hardly seen the field. Basketball jv team had varsity starters and kids playing varsity, playing more than true jv kids. Quit making excuses and watch the actual coaching. These coaches can't recruit the halls, can't coach up what kids do play. Not every super star made it without coaching
  6. The King I couldn't agree more with your statement. You are dead right Unaka needs to get their act together. They need to clean house down there. They need a new AD, new football and basketball coaches. Need to get some people who care about the programs as a whole and not just about their own sport. There is way to much I in the program right now. Tee is the only person I would keep. You cant make a complaint to the principal, the AD and basketball coach are related. Just falls on deaf ears, its not fair to these young kids. To give four years of their life for subpar adult failures. Any with common sense knows if you haven't turned around a program in five years, your not going to get it done. When your numbers are barley enough to field a team, need to resign. Let someone else give it a shot. Its not an issue of not finding someone, its an issue of " taking care of friends". Watch these coaches on the sidelines, there is very little coaching. My kid is a senior and he has wasted his 4 years. We should have just moved to EHS!
  7. Well we all were hoping that this was a bye, so we could watch them Dawgs and Warriors battle!
  8. I have also heard this rumor. I hope it isn't true, more than likely this will cause more tension inside the county and school. Harriman could have scored 100 on the Rangers, I would hope with the numbers HV has, they could work the younger kids. Besides if they don't beat Hancock and Oakdale they will be facing a Harriman, Greenback type team.
  9. I agree with everything that was said. You have 8 sophomore that played last year (two that started) not playing this year. You have talent in the halls, just need the right coaches to put the want in them. The coaches at Unaka are great people, hard working but that's not going to right the ship. You need a young energetic coaching staff mixed with wiley ole veterans who know the game. Someone the kids can relate to and get excited to play for. There is no emotion on the sidelines of Unaka. Kid messes up is the same as a touchdown. No one chewing butt, no one encouraging, kid gets ejected no one upset. Referee blows a call or questionable call, not a word of emotion. Football is an emotional game. I get your afraid of injuries but if you keep worrying, stressing that to your kids. Then more than likely the kids are going to play soft.
  10. http://tssaa.org/pastchampions/2001Champions/StateFootball/Class1A/bracket.htm This is just how widening the talent is between the two.
  11. The King just glad to see that there is hope on Orr field again! I agree Avery should be a double digit favorite!
  12. I have watched each game this season and last! Much more fight in these kids than the team last year. Depending on how well the Seniors and Juniors behave will decide how close this game will be. I dont think the Rangers will upset Burton (44-12 Burton) by no means. Anyone got a head coach on a bye this week, you would let Unaka borrow just one game?
  13. I truly think Concord has gotten worse compared to last year. Watching Unaka vs them the last two years. Unaka had a hard time putting them away last year. This year Unaka actually pulled the sophmores and few upper class men they have in 3rd and fourth quarters. I don't doubt Concord getting much better, yet again they may be like tri cities Christian. Cloudland will pull starters out by 2nd quarter or Noah will get 1000 by the 3rd. score will be 60 to 12 if Landers allow it!!!
