  1. There's just really no way for me to explain or describe how it is at White House. I think this is probably why no one ever says anything because they'd look stupid. I understand that from the outside looking in I just seem like a crybaby who never saw the field or a parent of a kid who never saw the field, but I played a lot and I'm not a parent. I'm just telling you how it is man, but I don't blame you for not taking my word for it. I probably wouldn't believe me either if I were you.
  2. White House loses some really good seniors, but I know they return a lot at the skill positions. Not sure what the line is gonna look like though. Congrats to Springfield and Greeneville, hopefully we can get there next year. GO BDP!!
  3. I'm not bad mouthing him, I complimented him on everything except being good with the actual coaching part. A lot of people talk about it, but no one usually says it to people outside. I swear it's the best kept secret in high school sports history. He's done good because he has good assistants (at least while I was there, I wouldn't really know now) and talent. Just look at all the names mentioned in this thread, almost all of them have played under porter and there's a lot more really good players that weren't named. I've invited former players (I know they're on here) to refute what I'm saying and none of them have.
  4. We'll just have to agree to disagree on that.
  5. Okay we beat Springfield and now they're in state, but whatever. This discussion started because I said coach Porter underachieves with the talent he has because he is not a good coach and gets in the way. Coach porter is a great guy, but it is what it is. If someone who has actually been a part of the program that knows what their talking wants to refute that claim then there's a discussion to be had, but for people who have no clue what they're talking about when it comes to this topic it's pointless to continue. Hopefully we'll have better luck next year, GO BDP!!
  6. I already agreed that White House doesn't have the athletes year in and year out. I said that there are a few years however where they have had the athletes to win state. 98,04,08, and this year too considering we beat Springfield in the regular season. And I know I know, Springfields super heroes got injured against us. You could probably throw a couple other years in there too, but I say definitely those three and this year.
  7. out of all the former players I've talked to, I've never had one that disagreed with me. I'm sure they're out there but I haven't met them. It's only been people outside of the program that think I'm lying or something lol
  8. Well hopefully I'm not a dad lol and I'm definitely not a coach. Just a former player who has talked to a lot of other former players and coaches that agree with me. I think you and eers are taking what I am saying the wrong way. Me questioning his coaching ability does not equate to me questioning his character. He is a class act and I have a lot of respect for coach porter! But that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to criticize him. I think coach does a good job. And if the goal is to make it to the 2nd and 3rd round every year, then he's doing a great job. I just think there's been enough talent at White House over the years for the goal to be set much higher than that.
  9. At this point you might just be trolling me lol but whatever. There were a lot of juniors and a few sophomores on this team that played big roles and some of them started last year too. I think a year of growth and experience makes a huge difference especially sophomore to junior year. Plus number 11 wasn't there last year either and he's really good. And as far as the schedule goes we probably don't beat pearl, but the rest of the games are definitely winnable for this years team. Of course this is all just opinion.
  10. White House doesn't always have a ton of athletes every year, but every few years, including this year imo, they are loaded. But every year no matter how many athletes we have we get put out in the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs. Yes there were some pretty significant injuries this year, but we were better than JSS and should've played Springfield in the 3rd round. I just want White House to raise the standard. Right now everyone is satisfied with going to the second or third round and just being a 'good' team. I understand you're not going to win state every year, but if that's not at least the goal then you're never going to win it. This was a good year and I'm proud to be a former blue devil. Maybe I'm being ridiculous, but I want us to be great not just good. That's all I'm trying to say.
  11. I mean you can watch my junior year highlights on YouTube, my name is Alan Cope. I definitely was not a superstar by anyones standards including my mom and dad. I went to a D3 school. D3 schools technically don't give athletic scholarships. The school costs $43,000 a year and we were paying $22,000. So I was getting a lot of scholarship money, but it still wasn't enough. I just think it's hilarious that two guys who are not White House fans think they would know more about how good coach porter is at the Xs and Os of football than someone who has actually been a part of it. I'll reiterate one more time, I like coach porter as a person. I think he is a good man, a good fundraiser, a good community man, and I think he does the best he can at instilling discipline in the kids. But the Xs and Os just aren't there. And the only people that ever disagree with me on this point are people who haven't played for him. Now obviously I haven't talked to every former player so there's probably some that disagree with me, but up to now I've never talked to a former player that disagrees with what I am saying.
  12. I'm not sure what comment I made that was so terrible. I would love to coach football. If I wasn't a part of my family's business, coaching is absolutely where I would want to be. But for now I'll have to stick to being a has been wishing I could relive the glory days lol
  13. I don't really think I said anything distasteful. I complimented him in a lot of areas because I think he's a good dude. All I said was he's not good with the Xs and Os. Its not like I'm the only person to say this stuff. A lot of people that I talk to around White House football have similar opinions. Like you said, you're not a White House fan and have probably never even interacted with coach Porter on a football field, so you really wouldn't know.
  14. 2011 was my senior year of high school football. I played special teams my freshmen and sophomore year in college, but I had to leave before the start of my junior year because of the financial situation.
  15. Yes... another good season... "the greatest barrier to be great, is being good." Being good makes you complacent, it makes you satisfied with being just above average and prevents and from achieving everything you're capable of achieving. It is not u realistic to compare coaching. If I would've been coached in high school the way I was coached in college I would've been an all state player at least. I swear the difference was astounding! If you think there's no room to bash coach porter then you obviously have never played for him. Once again, I love coach porter. He's a great family friend (I get in arguments with my family about him often), a great community man, a great fundraiser! But as far as Xs and Os, he just doesn't have it. Bottom line. Idk how the 90s guys feel about him, but any player I've talked to from 2003 and on will tell you the same thing.
  16. Wow! I hope Springfield wins this game! I wish it was us playing for the gold ball, but at least it's someone playing from our region. Congrats on the great season and good luck from BDP!!
  17. Started almost every down my junior and senior year and played football in college. I think playing college ball made me realize just how bad the coaching was at White House. And I'm glad you hate BDP. It makes me proud to be a former blue devil every time I hear someone say something negative about us. You're probably a heritage fan or something lol. No matter what I'll always love White House football. I'm just supremely disappointed by this years finish to the season and everyone else who loves BDP should be too.
  18. Idk how it's a stretch to say we could've won state those years. We lost to melrose in 04 by six points and they lost the state game by 1. And then we lost to Knox Catholic in 08 by 7 and they went on to win state by ten. Both losses came in the semifinals. I agree White House's schedule this year was soft, but we still had enough talent to make it to state. Yeah I've heard all about how Springfield is a different team. I would've liked to watch White House beat them a second time if porter wouldn't have coached the 2nd round game away, but we'll just have to wait til next year I guess. I wish porter the best; he's really good friends with my family, but I hope he will retire. Once again congratulations to Springfield, If it couldn't be BDP in the state i'm glad that it was at least someone from our region. Also eers, you're a douche.
  19. Dude you've been hating on White House since I first got on coacht my freshman year of high school so I don't really care about your opinion as far as this thread goes. Both the 04 and 08 teams had more than enough talent to win state but we flushed it down the toilet. And if either of those teams wins it would've changed the whole program. This team obviously had enough talent to at least make it to state considering they beat Springfield in the regular season. I was mad after we lost to JSS because I thought we were better than them, but now I'm livid because I know for sure that we were better than Springfield and now they're playing for a goldball while we sit at home. But everyone in White House is satisfied because we had an undefeated regular season and made it to the playoffs. Woohooo go White House, way to be mediocre.
  20. Springfield is going to state....... White House high school has wasted so much talent over the last 25 years it is ridiculous. BDP should have at least three more state championships in 98, 04, and 08. But they get out coached come playoff time every year. It is unacceptable that we lost in the second round of the playoffs this year. Coach Porter is a great fella, but he is the king of mediocrity.
  21. Chris freeman said he was going to post the individual stat records after he got done with this season's individual stats. Hopefully we'll be able to check those out.
  22. I was impressed with JSS running game and physicality upfront in the second half, but they don't have athletes or speed like Springfield imo. I won't be shocked if JSS wins since they're at home, but I think Springfield comes out on top in this one.
  23. Agreed. Scheduling harder opponents and being prepared is better than going 10-0 and being put out early. Coach Porter used to schedule hard non region games. My junior year we went 5-5 and my senior year we went 6-4, but we had a hard schedule and ended up going to the quarterfinals both years. Still think we were better than JSS but that's irrelevant. Good luck to Springfield, represent our region well!
  24. Not sure why you even posted that at this point. Both White House and greenbrier are out so it's irrelevant until next year lol. All I will say is 21-0. Greenbrier sucks
  25. I don't think speed was a problem at all. JSS was definitely more physical upfront though. Especially in the second half. From what I was told the kid carted off is going to be fine, it was more of a precautionary thing. But i don't know that for sure. Good luck next week JSS
