  1. She is 2 for 10 the ground outs are just outs it wouldn't help her on base percentage unless she reached. It is no different than a strike out in figuring a batting average it just let's you know she is swinging and putting the ball in play instead of striking out.
  2. Sorry for the misinformation someone told me they only had 12. Our problem with umpires was the ones that were scheduled for the Thursday games that were rained out couldn't all be there for Saturday games.
  3. As usual Soddy is better at everything. They had only about 12 teams and Ooltewah had 22. We just tried to give the teams there 3 pool games they were told they would get if they insisted. You did notice I also said umpires were a problem not just extra inning games and extra games. I am being honest it was as organized under the circumstances as it could have been. We could not have done anything else with the situation maybe it will be smoother next year.
  4. Herb agreed to go to the ballfield and have bucket day what a guy! I'm gonna see if I can get there and get me one of them buckets I would like a red and gray one if they have them. Do you think Lamar and Norma would sign it too?
  5. I just found out the game is cancelled for today. Dang it no bucket day and Brainerd can't upset Ooltewah.
  6. No matter what nobody will look as good as ol' Herb carrying that bucket around. He is the Man!!
  7. Come on all you Ooltewah haters come out, come out, wherever your are I can't have any fun when you all play chicken and go into hiding. Fly proud like an owl and come out and trash somebody. Herb Rice is a good candidate he has thick skin. i don't think you've given Lasley enough either that big bad rule breaker shame on him for watching his daughter play ball during the down time. Bleacherbum where are you surely this topic intrigues you if it caused youwilneverno to come out and Wilson25 joined just today to have fun and made one post and then pulled out. Come on. Ooltewah is supposed to play Brainerd today now there's a topic. Do you think there might be an upset?
  8. Don't take it personal Knowitall, I think knowing Rice he will be glad they are getting on him and off his daughter. Can you believe little old Ooltewah stirs up this much controversy. It's nice to be noticed.
  9. If you will reveal your identity Wilson I will see if the Ooltewah fans will take up a donation and we will buy you a bucket just like Rice's. Maybe you will learn something just by imitating him. Don't be shy come on back bucket boy. Glad to know the bucket bothers you. HA!HA! It's actually a throne we all bow down to King Rice at Ooltewah. Did you notice the seat was padded?
  10. I think the problems with the empty fields were being able to get umpires for them. Also the city is very picky about the fields and would not allow Ooltewah to use certain ones until certain times. We could not use the stadium all day because UTC had a game. The rain Thursday did push everything out of sync. Sorry for the championship game going so late but there really was not anything we could do any differently. We did the best we could under the circumstances. We did have several extra inning games and there were some teams that insisted on there 3rd pool game that they were supposed to have played on Thursday and we accomodated them.
  11. I don't know exactly which GPS parent but I am sure it is one of them. Integrity in fastpitch get real go to a Baylor GPS game and it can get real ugly real fast. Wonder how many of the girls on those two teams are supposed to be at Ooltewah? Oh Well, to each his own. Go Mary Catherine Vercoe You Are Awesome!
  12. No, but Tiffany Walker and Brittany Rice are and I certainly remember you being very critical of them. And please don't go into hiding stay with us for a while. I Love you!!!! You drip with sarcasm and misery it oozes from you. I know you are Clifford's # 1 fan and I too think he is great but that is about all we have in common. Do you like chicken and dumplings?
  13. Softball guru that's a nice title. I wonder how many parents besides Mr. Rice carry a bucket around? So obviously that was directed straight to him. You know what he will appreciate the compliment and I bet he has forgotten more about softball than you will ever know in your lifetime. Coach Nelson and Mr. Rice are really close. Yes she values his advice and takes him into her confidence I am sure that's how Brittany gets all that playing time because we all know she ain't no good according to all you GURU"S on coach T!
  14. In theory that is great but in reality it doesn't always happen. Do you have a daughter? I think fastpitch is a little different than boys sports. It is so competitive and continues on into the summer with lots of opportunities to earn scholarships that boys do not have. I have had kids in every sport at Ooltewah and it's always the same. There are a few parents that rule the roost. You just face it and go on. I have talked to many parents at other local high schools and it is pretty much the same at other schools too.
  15. Do you know the details of the rule violation? It was ridiculous. Lamar's daughter was playing summer ball and during the TSSAA "down" period someone snapped a picture of him sitting on a bucket with a lot af players around him and accused him of coaching. He was not he had just fininshed watching a game and the girls were just around him talking. When Ronnie Carter investigated this it was found to be nothing. Soddy had already found an asst. and I guess they didn't ask him back for that reason. I really don't know the details of why he did not return to Soddy. I have heard a lot of rumors about a few parents not wanting him back. I do not know and do not care. We are glad to have him at Ooltewah and anyone who has a child that plays fastpitch and wants to take a holier than thou attitude you are in the wrong sport. If your daughter has plans on playing in college you better get ready for her to grow up because your little comment about Clifford making players cry and Lamar violating a rule will be slapped right back in your face. Life is not fair and what happened to Lamar was not fair someone did a petty thing to him. If your daughter is good enough to get a scholarship I hope her coach has prepared her for the real world. It's about winning and in college you are bought and paid for. Lot's of sheltered players can't get through the first year of college ball because parents and coaches didn't have them ready. Good Luck to your daughter and GPS this year. Idon't know anything about 3 times it seems like they would have banned him from coaching if that were the case. Maybe the TSSAA needs investigated. Maybe parents need to shut up and mind there own teams business. Every time an Ooltewah fan puts something positive on the site about our team everybody goes psycho!!!!
  16. Glad to see you come out of hiding Youwilneverno. Coach Kirk doesn't need help from anyone I agree with you. He makes Soddy Daisy the team that they are and he doesn't care if a player leaves the field crying either. You helped me make a point I have been saying all year Soddy is a good team with a GREAT coach. and by the way Lamar ain't too bad! Nobody is after Nelson's job. As far as the rule violation it happened during summer ball and was petty, petty, petty. Ooltewah is glad Soddy gave Lamar the boot. We welcomed him with open arms and would do the same for Clifford if ya'll want to get rid of him send him our way.
  17. Low Blow. Our hitters had to hit there too. With the rain and all the crazy scheduling changes it's a wonder we managed to get the games in. great Job parents and coaches.
  18. Umpires are not expected to be perfect they are however expected to be professional and make calls that are unbiased. I have watched a lot of softball in my life and sometimes an official can cost a team a game or take them out of one by affecting there enthusiasm with a bad call. They are paid to do a job and the people they perform that job for being players and parents are not in any way able to rate there ability. Some are great and some are average and some are terrible. There does need to be an accountability factor if they are continually not doing a good job. Some of them even seem to take pleasure in making a crazy call and upsetting the crowd.
  19. Katie Blevins from Soddy Daisy is a big pure power hitter. She is the real deal. Katie Ahrens from Ooltewah is really strong and can smack it she hit a legit 400 in the Ooltewah tournament this past weekend.
  20. I know most would rather play than sit. A great pitcher in high school does not a college pitcher make. There is some really good advice in the words above. You need to be a "big ol" girl and bring it hard to pitch with the big dogs.
  21. Lamar Lasley is a great coach! We are extremely excited to have him at Ooltewah. Well, I can't speak for everyone but I certainly am. He will put the best players on the field and if you have a problem with that then you just have a problem. The days of dictating parents are over at Ooltewah. Coach Nelson appreciates the support Lasley gives her and the two of them worked well together this past weekend.
  22. I don't want to take it back because it was the truth. I said it I meant it. I just want it to go forward from here on. I complimented the whole team if you go back and read my post you will see I gave credit to all the Lady Owls. They all played really well. Kirtley shined defensively she made some outstanding plays and I think she had a hit in every game except the Baylor game. Players have to make outstanding plays, go 3 for 3 or hit homeruns to get noticed by the oposing team to get all tournament votes. She definitely deserved it! Holly Thomas pitched well against Baylor. The whole team contributed. What about Tabitha? Casey, Lauren and Dana were the only girls that had a hit in the East Ridge game. Kaitlin hit her first homerun against Boyd in the stadium. How exciting was that for her and her family? Kirtley was 2 for 3 with a double and came in to score our only run against East Ridge. It takes a team to win but a player can surely stand out and shine and Dana really stood out! Go Lady Owls and Kirtley when you read this I want to see those kind of plays from here on out!! You will still look good in your bikini bruise and all. Go Ooltewah!!!!!!
  23. Ooltewah Lady Owls dug deep and showed a lot of heart this past weekend. Yes I was critical of the players, parents, and coaches last week. Instead of laying down they took the challenge and like a good team should do they stepped up to the plate and met the challenge head on. The coaches made adjustments and the girls showed a tremendous amount of heart and played like I knew they could. Ooltewah should continue to get better each game they play. Senior shortstop Dana Kirtley was the best in the state this past weekend. The outfield had outstanding performances especially in the Boyd game. Congrats to Kirtley and Rice and all the other girls who were selected to the all tournament team. If you made it please post I didn't get a complete list. I am sorry if any of my remarks offended anyone last week but I am just honest and if you play crappy again I will say it again. Keep Rolling Lady Owls!!!!!!!!
  24. The 4:30 games are cancelled for today but the 6:00 games are on as of right now.
