  1. Man, I really don't know why to be honest with you. We only have one middle school feeder and they tend to have a large turn-out for football every year. Covington never has had a true youth football program, just recently we started youth flag football. Our freshmen squad usually has 20-30 players (or it did in the past). It just seems that with each progressive class (freshmen through senior) less players return. If you walk behind the bleachers on Friday night, it's easy to notice the availability, as there are many kids that have the size and appearance to be on that field. If Covington were somehow able to optimize all the talent in that school, I feel that we'd have just as much college level talent as teams like you guys on a more consistent basis.
  2. Absolutely, Milan needed the facility upgrade and the team definitely deserves it! Been a long time coming. Good luck against Peabody! Represent 7-3a!
  3. I know we have some key returning players with experience (QB, RB, LB), however, I concerned about our depth and size. We will need so guys to really step up in the trenches. It always bothers me that we have such a tradition-rich program with tons of community support and a grade-A coaching staff, we just can't get the kids to come out. We should have a roster of 80-90 instead of 40. I have total faith in the coaching staff that always gets the most out of our boys. Go Chargers!
  4. Stadium looks great! What that heck is up with the visitor stands though?
  5. Umm...do you not recall last year scoring the winning TD with 16 seconds to go in the game? Pretty sure that Covington team deserves more respect than that.
  6. Seems that the officiating is against LC...getting ridiculous
  7. I know this is a little off topic but I was going over some rosters and the first one I looked at was, of course, Covington. I must say, I got a little excited seeing a lot of familiar names returning next year and thinking a return to Cookeville may be in order. Then I looked at Pearl Cohn's roster and saw the amount of underclassman on that roster, not to mention, the main numbers (17, 7, 3) will all be returning. Now, I'm thinking that this is a State Championship type squad who will probably be favored next year. UNTIL I took a peak at Alcoa's roster and saw the UNGODLY amount of juniors and key players (Carroll, Saaunkey, ect) that will be returning next year and came to the conclusion that the rest of 3A might as well give them next year's Gold ball this weekend and take a year off...lol. Needless to say, 3A will be even tougher next year than this year and based off the play of all these young players on each of these teams should be really exciting and could probably challenge any squad from any division. Good luck to PC and Alcoa this Friday.....and, dang, I'm looking forward to the 2020 season already.
  8. They do have speed and a lot of size but I’m not sure about their game planning. Covington actually outgained them 334-175 with 23 first downs to 10 and were the much smaller team on the field. I feel like if they would have utilized their passing attack more that they would had more yardage as they could’ve beaten the Covington secondary with long passes. I believe they only attempted a couple and completed one for a monster gain that turned into a TD. They did enough to win and that’s what matters but it won’t be enough against Alcoa if they underutilize their strength.
  9. You are right! It doesn’t matter how the game is played, where the mistakes were made, or what the stats say....Pearl won and earned their win and deserve to represent their city in the finals. So fans can’t accept a loss but respect should be given when all is said and done to these boys for playing their hearts out! Good luck Firebirds!
  10. Is Alcoa better than last year....it appears so, however, they did beat Maryville last year and failed to do so this year. Is 3A in the east really down this year (except for Alcoa of course) or are these lopsided matches a sign of Alcoa’s dominance over all of 3A. We shall see Friday. Can PC give them the game they got last year and possible pull the upset of the year or will they simply become the sacrificial lamb to receive the annual silver ball in 3A. I’ll be watching and hoping that these firebirds (despite some of their arrogant fans) can pull it off but I understand that’s a tall order. Good luck to both teams next well and congratulations on making it TO THE SHIP!
  11. Firebird80, if you were at that game last night you know that it could have gone either way...and I bet the stats actually favor Covington....Covington shot themselves in the foot so don’t act like winning that game was always a sure thing and the “haters” should be mocked. It was a great game between 2 great teams that hopefully can see each other on a regular basis. I wish you guys all the luck in Cookeville I really do....but I’m afraid that Alcoa is on another level and whichever team won last night is destined to be embarrassed. I hope not!
  12. Congratulations Pearl Cohn! What a war! Good luck against Alcoa! I think you may need a lot of it but I’ll be routing for you. Hope to see y’all at our place next year for the rubber game.
  13. Winfrey just went down......not good for Covington!
  14. I mean....what tha heck....what happened? Are there any other decent 3A team out east?
  15. It seems like Kirby always pulls out new stuff in big games.
  16. 21-20 Covington scores and misses PAT right before half
