  1. The current OC at Hardin Valley was the QB coach at Farragut when they won a state title. He’s an excellent QB coach. I don’t think he’s inexperienced at all as far as coaching though he was new to the OC role. The DB coach at HVA was also part of Farragut’s state title team as a WR coach and HVA’s head coach was their DC when HVA was having the successful seasons. So I don’t think that they have a group of complete novices over there.
  2. Yes, that’s exactly what I meant about the penalties- that whatever they lose in penalties will be made up for in intensity, and buy in. And I get that to an extent. I feel like honestly If I were a coach, I would be like give me a mean ole defensive line that’s just dying to hit that QB on every play…or just a nasty ole O lineman, Cade Mays style, and I’ll take the occasional 15 yard penalty that comes from that . But I think the catch is “occasional” because when it becomes a standard occurrence, it’s hard to win those tight games that way. I think Matt Lowe is a polarizing personality and I feel like most coaches tend to coach how they live. The same personality or style comes through. I think he’s a big personality and that comes through. I also think his goal is to be a coach that players want to come play for and are excited to play for. Whether he compromises too many other things to be that guy is a good question.
  3. Not as much. My nephew and some of my kids’ friends played there but they graduated in 2020 so 2019 was their last football season. My kids play at Farragut (I did have one son who played at HVA but he graduated in 2018) but we still know some families at HVA. I don’t really have an answer as to what’s going on. My two cents is just speculation, same as anyone else’s and it feels like when I ask around, it’s a different perspective depending on who you ask. I personally feel like there’s a culture issue regarding football there, a certain apathy or frustration on the part of all the stakeholders. I feel like early on, with prior administrations, football wasn’t really made a priority and that’s kind of been an issue. Some families from there tell me that it’s really tough to get kids to come out for football and others say getting kids in the weight room or to take it seriously is a problem. Some want a coaching change. Again , that’s all second hand and speculation tho. I definitely think it’s a bunch of factors and not one easy fix.
  4. It seems like every time a team is having a good season, someone comes out with the don’t be surprised if they beat maryville statements. I think Bradley has a pretty good team this year. I don’t think they are anywhere near beating maryville barring extenuating covid type situations. I think maryville puts the same 40 plus points on them as they do anyone else. I wouldn’t mind being wrong about this, because I think it could be fun for someone else to win region other than maryville again.
  5. I also feel like his focus is on the talent and the potential and not on the details like discipline. It feels like it’s just not a point of stress for them. Some coaches are super big on things like that and others aren’t.
  6. I have a theory and it’s just that…that he doesn’t really mind it. I get the feeling that he likes that kind of rogue, play with excitement even if it boarders on too much and is willing to accept some penalties in exchange for what he feels it brings. I feel like he thinks it’s the cost of high energy and the us against the world mentality. Again just my own opinion.
  7. I agree a zillion percent. They are their own worst enemy.
  8. To be fair, Powell looked pretty undisciplined themselves.
  9. Bradley Central +6 William Blount +14 Central +10 Farragut +7 Catholic +7
  10. Oak ridge by 3 farragut by 7 Cleaveland by 12 gat pit by 6 jeff co by 14 some of these are hard b/c I could see them going either way.
  11. He is such a good guy. One of my kids played at HVA when he was there and he was very well loved by the kids. I wish so much success for him and always cringe a bit when I see the score out of Cocke Co each week.
  12. You will really appreciate the fact that there is standing water in some type of creek or pond behind the visitors’ side and every few minutes a sewage type smell wafts throughout the bleachers. Also there aren’t speakers on the visitors side (which I know is fairly common) so it’s tough to hear the announcer. And definitely don’t schedule that colonoscopy because if you should need to use the facilities at HVA, you will have to walk all the way back to the home side (to be fair, they are nicer restrooms than most, it’s just there’s only the one area to use).
  13. I’m a little afraid for HVA in this matchup. But Double Dogs and Stefano’s are both really good. There is a Victor’s Tacos nearby that is also really good.
  14. I think it’s kinda both to be honest. I think Potter is frustrated and maybe it’s time for a change in coaching staff. I don’t like to say that because I get that often it’s not all the coaches but in HVA’s case, I think it’s some of everything.
  15. HVA is definitely struggling for the last couple seasons. I think they have trouble with getting kids to buy in. I sat on their side during the HVA/Farragut JV game last week and all you heard was complaints about the coaches, the entire game. Ironically, I was sitting on their side to escape having to listen to the Farragut parents complain about their own coaches but it was another level with HVA. i think everyone at HVA is just kinda stick. The football culture, the buy in, heck, even getting kids to come play needs work ASAP
  16. Elizabeth over Rhea Co Anderson over Gibbs Karns over Halls south Doyle over central (gahh this is a hard one!) Greeneville over Oak Ridge
  17. Jeff Co should win easily. It feels like HVA can’t get much of anything going again this year.
  18. I can’t tell what to make of central yet either. I’m not sure who to pick in their game.
  19. Yeah that seemed to be the game that tripped many of us up on our picks. I don’t know much about either team to be honest.
  20. Campbell Co by 10 powell by 20 Rhea co by 7 Halls by 14 South Doyle by 6
  21. I think the Rebs have this one easily, as they will every remaining game until they face Oakland. I think Boyd gives them a run for their money and maybe they score more on maryville than most do, because of him. But ultimately, despite possible fireworks from Boyd, I don’t think there’s enough complete offense to challenge the rebel defense nor do I think that Cleaveland has the defense to shut down or even slow down Maryville. So maryville by a couple touchdowns if not more.
  22. Fulton over Bearden Cleaveland over walker valley Elizabethton on over AC Karns over carter Farragut over South Doyle
