  1. What an excellent venue for soccer. With a few thousand fans the stadium will be rocking. Let's make sure the Tennessee fans make the trip. See you there.
  2. There's a link to the article in the CHATTANOOGAN.COM on the main page but in case the article rolls off to the archives I'll list the rosters here: The Tennessee squads will be represented by players from seven different schools that all participated in this year's state tournaments while Georgia's rosters will also feature seven schools that made the state field. 3. CSAS 2 - 1 CCS BOYD 2 - 1 NOTRE DAME
  4. A similar thing happened last year when CSAS was undefeated and heavily favored and CCS beat them. Someone forgot to tell CSAS they weren't supposed to win. CSAS was definitely the better team tonight.
  5. If ND plays with their usual sweeper formation then Boyd may not get any quality shots. If the referees call it close then Boyd may not get any shots and ND wins at least 3-0. If the game is allowed to be "physical" and the ball bounces right then Boyd could win 5-0.
  6. Tuesday, 5/13 at CCS; probably at 7:00 P.M.
  7. Hmmm - don't see that many goals from either team. I see 1-0 McCallie or maybe a 0-0 tie. Hasn't McCallie only given up 3 goals all year?
  8. It only cost $20 more for a three man and you do have to request it. Sometimes, due to everyone else wanting to play at the same time, you won't get 3 even if requested. It would be funny, or sad, if TSSAA tried to mandate a 3-man for all games. The bodies just aren't there.
  9. If Cleveland plays a strong midfield they can shut Tackling down. Without Tackling the Ooltewah attack stalls. Cleveland has too many players who can score and should win by a couple of goals. If they don't shut Daniel down they will have a hard time winning and could lose by a goal or maybe earn a tie.
  10. Is Kevin Abel playing yet for ND?
  11. I agree - if you pull off a sweep then you should be ranked up there. Best of luck to the Iron Men of JPII.
  12. Why would JP II (or anyone) schedule 4 games in one week?
  13. I have to disagree with the majority of the posters. The game was exciting only if you're a defender who doesn't have to worry about being punished for blatant fouls. It would be fun to see these two teams play again and watch them actually have to play the ball first. Every time someone carryied the ball across midfield it was just a question of how many defenders were going to crash into him before he lost the ball. Both teams played not to lose which is understandable - just not very exciting.
  14. CCS should play it as a JV game. I think it's a district game so you still start and play it as any other varsity game. You call off the dogs after 6 or 7 to nil.
  15. When do ND and CCS play and where?
  16. This is a "you pick 'em" match. Baylor seems to have had the upper hand the past few years so I'll go with them. Baylor is still #1 until dethroned. Baylor wins 2-1.
  17. I think Sweetwater has better team speed plus I'm not sure Grace has a bona fide scoring threat. I pick Sweetwater to win by 2.
  18. My Chattanooga area top 12: Baylor McCallie Notre Dame Cleveland Ooltewah CCS - Hixson - East Ridge (tied) CSAS Soddy Red Bank Boyd
  19. This is where TSSAA is out of touch with FIFA and the other governing bodies.
  20. I agree with you 100%.
  21. I think most people are missing the point of the harsher penalty imposed for soccer versus other sports. Comparing soccer to football or basketball isn't ever going to work because soccer penalties are for violating the spirit of the game. In basketball or football everyone has shown where expected actions result in relatively minor or inconsequential penalties - and everyone is OK with that. The governing bodies of soccer decided a few years ago that violating the spirit of the game of soccer would be punished more severely than the actual rule/foul warranted. Deliberately fouling someone to prevent an obvious goal scoring opportunity is about the most severe action a player can commit. A player jumping up to grab a ball heading for the goal - automatic red card. If you look at the bans imposed by most leagues above the rec level you'll see that many red cards result in a ban of more than 1 game and that all governing bodies reserve the right to impose a greater penalty. I'm not saying TSSAA uses this reasoning or whether it's wrong or right, just that the spirit of a basketball or football foul is not equivalent to a soccer foul.
  22. Over the past 6-8 years (maybe 10) you could count on a couple of things in A-AA; if you made it far enough you would have to play CAK or CCS. Now you have CSAS or Notre Dame consistently in the final mix of teams so it's pretty safe to say that the road to the final 4 passes in a large part through Chattanooga
  23. On an interesting side note, Chattanoogan.Com shows the final score as 9-0.
  24. TSSAA doesn't assess it's officials nor do they require a specific level of fitness. If the state tried to impose sanctions on an official for excessive use (or lack) of their cards the official would probably just quit and only do Rec or Club games. Get this; until a few years ago the only certification was an open book test mailed to you from Nashville. In almost 20 years I never saw an official banned due to their performance - they might be relegated to doing middle school or the less prestigious two-man games but we were so desperate for warm bodies that we couldn't be choosy. The association in Southeast Tn handles games from Dalton, Georgia all the way to Sweetwater which is a corridor about 80 miles long and for boys season encompasses about 50-60 high school teams. When everyone plays on a Tuesday or Thursday night and there literally aren't enough officials to go around (good or bad) many officials end up doing a game at 5 and another at 7:30. If we ever get past the logistics of having enough referees we can afford to be more choosy; for now we're still stuck with what we get.
  25. I believe TSSAA requires that the principal of the school address the disciplinary action to be taken (and report it back to TSSAA). TSSAA may require a single match ban but the school may impose a harsher one.
