  1. Get well soon Coach Mac!! Camp David will soon be upon us!
  2. Columbia has shown in all scrimmages, it Jamboree and its first two games they have a tendency to start slow...it was real apparent last Friday Night against Dickson County... They have to get it going early rather than later in the game. They get that fixed..and reduce the penalty yardage...they will have a very good ball club.
  3. I thought both games last year that Dyersburg would win...both games close. Nothing out there this year at this time says anything different. Expect a close game. Kicking game may come into play this year.
  4. I have talked with several past Board Members at BGA... a number of them would have supported the move to D-I to compete with the Lipscombs and the Goodpastures, and the CPA's. In the past there have been good rivalry's with Lipscomb in all sports going back many years...family connections and friends...it would have been in their opinion a better mesh than D-II. Board members still read their mission and charter that they give financial aid to those who need it and meets the school's entrance standards for all students which includes athletics. With Lipscomb and the others..financial aid is not available to those who participate in athletics.
  5. I think its a number of things. Yes the impact of other private Division II schools who offer athletic aid has had an impact. I know of several instances where kids left Lipscomb to go elsewhere to play because of the aid. Lipscomb doesn't offer aid to students who participates in athletics. Its also a cycle....the past couple of years, the talent level may not be has it has in the past. The other night...Lipscomb got down...they just didn't have the personnel to make the plays as they have had in the past..Historically Lipscomb usually is not clicking on offense by week 1. I will say, they have some real players in the younger ranks that can become impact players...but they will have to wait on them. And finally...the multiplier has had an effect on the program. The competition on a week by week basis is greater than it has ever been. While Lipscomb is considered generally a more fundamentally sound team than many of its opponents...the opponents still have more athletic players than Lipscomb. These are just my own personal observations. Some may disagree with me. If you are going to get Lipscomb...they better get them now.
  6. I came to the Lipscomb game this past Saturday night and was real impressed with the QB/Kicker Tanner Hudson. Just wondering if he is getting any looks or interest on the collegiate level.
  7. The Game could have been a lot more lop-sided than it was. Columbia had many drive killing penalties. Kicking game has been solved and the line started slow but finally got its act together.
  8. Yes, Vandy1 is still alive and kicking...even made the trip to Camden on Saturday Night. Don't know what the season will bring the Mustangs this year...Years past...Lipscomb came out of the gate slow...many examples of this application. Usually the Mustangs were still trying to put the pieces together on offense...Last Saturday Night was another example. We will get a better feel of the program in the next couple of weeks. As to the MustangFanPage....I haven't been the webmaster in nearly 5 years. I think they are trying to find a new webmaster to get it updated. Hope they will. I sent a message over to the powers that be to suggest some changes..(I don't even have the passwords anymore) Now, I am asking the questions...where is Bomb Squad and Eddie Haskell, and Big Country...and Catfish mouth. I will check in now and then on the Lipscomb threads to make sure everyone is on the up and up! You might find me hanging around the Columbia Central thread. I now roam their sidelines!
  9. Heard #9 from the sidelines after the D'Burg back went down, "I told you that I was going to take him out" No denying what he said. I heard him. I know he may have been keyed up all night...but where's the sportsmanship...where's the gamesmanship? The rest of the OC team didn't display that type of attitude on the field.
  10. I saw Dyersburg last year and this year. There is no comparsion between the two teams. This year's version is far better than last year. The record shows it. I did see the Covington Game...the offense kept giving it away and the defense just ran out of gas in the 4th Qtr. This team is more disciplined, better on Defense in all phases. Secondary has a bunch of picks this year and can lay the wood. Offense has put up some big numbers this year. I would also say the takeaway margin is huge this year. Big Time play from the kicking game. The punter and the place kicker could be DI prospects...it might come down to the kicking game between these two schools.
  11. Its been awhile since I posted on CoachT. There is a contract between the two schools. Obion did have the power to change the game date. I am wondering why did they schedule it on Thursday Night in the first place. I'm sure there was a reason to do so. The change of the day from Thursday to Friday really has caused big scheduling problems especially if you work in the Nashville area and were trying to make the game. Many years ago Brentwood Academy was to play at David Lipscomb...it was a heavy rain all day all afternoon and all night. BA wanted to move the game to Saturday night to play..Lipscomb wanted to go on and play..didn't matter about the gate..Lipscomb wanted to ground it out all night. Long run...BA won 6-0. BA wasn't able to run up the score that night. Lipscomb, a much weaker team played with BA all night. Still planning on being at the game on Friday Night.
  12. Coach Broome is familiar with the Lipscomb Defense. They ran a portion of it at McGavock.
  13. Off the campaign trail and will be headed to Maplewood this Friday night. On this trip, planning to eat the pre-game meal at Pickadilly in Madison. Come join us! ETA 5:30 PM. Can't do the fish sandwich. Flaming rim and bleacher seats don't sit well. The only true and official fish sandwich at HS football games can only be found at Tyner!
  14. Congratulations to Giles County. In watching your team develop over the past 4 years, I knew that this year would be special. Savor this week and the game, as they don't come every year. Your FRIENDS at Lipscomb will be pulling for you. If I didn't have a wedding this Saturday, I would be in Cookeville pulling for the Bobcats!
  15. A near complete game for Giles County. Congratulations on your win, but don't let the Lipscomb game be the benchmark for your season. Teams in the past after defeating Lipscomb in a earlier playoff game let off the gas pedal..ask Mitchell, ask Tyner. I was impressed by the GC defense who did not let Lipscomb finish several drives during the night. I knew Bo and Tobias and offensive company would present problems for the Mustangs and they did. Good Luck to the Bobcats...show that intensity next week as well.
  16. Again, spread the word to those who cannot attend the game in person...You can listen to the Lipscomb Sports Network's Coverage at http://www.mustangfanpage.com (You know it as the Mustangfanpage!) Real time live audio worldwide. Pregame show at 6:30 CST. Kickoff at 7PM.
  17. It may not be on my official platform, but everyone will know that I am a facilities type guy and really looking forward to seeing the new brickyard. There will be a number of Lipscomb fans who will either eat at the local establishments or spend money at the concession stand...so some of that south Nashville money will be spent in Giles County tonight. Wonder how many of the other announced candidates will be attending the HS Playoffs tonight?
  18. After Lipscomb got ripped by Goodpasture, the team realized that the name on the back of the Jersey had to be earned. That Goodpasture game, The Mustangs had to do something and they came back and worked harder and the light finally came on. Remember this is a new team, new players for the most part and had to go thru the learning curve. Leaders finally emerged. I don't know if thats the real reason, but that is my observation since you asked. Mustangs very business like in Thursday's walk thru. I am looking forward to the trip down to see the new digs and to eat at the HIckory HOuse, and watch the game. Any GC fan is welcomed to join us and would love for you to pick up the tab. As to closing of the Thread, say Beetle Juice three times and perhaps CoachHard will come in and close it down. I think this is the first time in nearly 8 years that everyone is looking for someone to close the thread.
  19. Oh I'm not the stat man...that would be the famous Peter Powell. His game day notes will soon appear on the Mustangfanpage. I think most GC fans will be familiar with The Mustangfanpage. I am just a fan of the game, HS Football, and of course Lipscomb High Football. I've had 3 former Mustangs grow up at my house and the youngest played against GC. I will be at the game with the Lipscomb Sports Network and of course eating at the Hickory House late Friday afternoon. Love to be able to talk to my old GC fans before the game, so come by and find me. Look for the guy with the little ragged Lipscomb cap.
  20. Going back a couple of years don't forget the effort of Matt Elrod and that gang of 2006.
  21. Now its time to bring in the HEAVY WEIGHTS "Calling Bomb Squad and Eddie Haskell and the Gang!" Its like saying Beetle Juice three times.
  22. I expect this to be a good game. I do think Giles will be ready to play the Mustangs. They have been ready to play them 3 out of the last 4 times. The Mustangs have really played a very difficult schedule this year..one of the toughest in the past 20 years, in my opinion. The Lipscomb Sports Network will be carrying the game live over local Nashville radio am 900 WKDA and over the internet on The Mustangfanpage.com. Wished we were able to do a webcast of this game. I've got this feeling, its going one that will measure up to some of the past games. I know fans of both programs world wide would like to see this game. Before you ask....we have to have permission from the tournament director first, and then need to have a hard line for the internet into the pressbox.
  23. If you cannot attend this game in person, you can watch it live and in Real Time at The http://www.mustangfanpage.com Locally in Nashville the game will be carried on AM 900 WKDA Pregame show at 6:30..Kickoff at 7PM CST
