D-1 schools can pull kids too and they do....take for instance maryville..any kid can attend maryville high school if they want, all they have to do is pay like a 1000 something dollars for transfering to a school they are not zoned for. i know many kids transfering all the time from one school to another. In knoxville some parents will just buy/rent a house or apartment in the school zone and send the kid there. For schools like maryville and oak ridge in counties outside of knoxville i see them no different then any other private schools they can take kids out of knoxville if they want plus these high schools have pretty good academics on par with some private schools.

Wait you think ben johnson was only the 3rd or 4th best 125 in state? who do u think is better besides Usary? Im pretty sure ben only lost 1 match all year to Ringolds 125 who is like a 3x georgia state champ and ben beat him this year the last time they wrestled. I agree that usary and him would be a good match but johnson being only the 3rd or 4th best 125 in the state is a long stretch in my opinion.

it does happen sometimes in d-2 but your right that it is not as often as d-1. Some examples: This year: baylor's 119 who was seeded 7th upset 2nd ranked sherbakoff in the quarterfinals after sherbakoff beat him twice earlier in the year and then he went on to get into the finals. Last year: Notre Dame's 152 daniel rawn seeded 4th upset 1st seed Dean smith 4-2 and went on to win the finals. also smith as a sophomore was seeded 6th and got 2nd. Geismer did upset simpson that one year. Im sure there are more examples. The point is that it does happen in d-2 but still i agree not as often as it does in d-1

Smith was 41-0 this year and not taken down... and only gave up 1 reversal... he teched or pinned everybody except 3 people from georgia and 2 from tennessee. he beat the 5a 160 georgia champ at mcCallie 5-2 and beat robbie robinson at father ryan 7-4. Smith would have beaten Joslin this year if they would have wrestled. joslin went into overtime with ben heacock a guy smith teched...to give joslin credit he has been hurt this year. Although smith had a good year it still doesnt undermind the fact the creagen has been good for the past 2 being a 2X sate champ as only a junior. too bad they couldnt of wrestled it would have been a great match but one that is too close to call by me.

Anyone notice that there were 12 state champions form goergia at the mccallie tournament. 10 were AAAAA georgia state champs 103, 112, 119, 130, 135, 140, 152, 160, 171...and 3 AAAA state champs from ringold 125, 145, 215. Shows how tough that tournament is. Plus only 4 guys from tennessee won that tournement at weight classes 119, 130, 160, and 189.

It is true that that webb will not be attending the state duals. Alot of the wrestlers on the team were friends with the student who died. Esp. in a school with only a hundred in a grade it hits the student population very hard..b/c it is very noticible when somone is missing.

I did hear he is taking an ivy type redshirt meaning he is sitting out a year and doing something else that cornell has set up..he is not attending cornell..and then next year return to school..i think heck have to re-aply but he will get in again.. im not sure what it exactly is but i think its the ivy league's way of getting around red shirting because it is true that u can not redshirt at any ivy league schools.

Is the McCallie Inv. a tougher tournament then the State?

Why hasnt maryville gone outside the region or the county to play teams Like MBA, McCallie, Oak ridge(they do scrimmage them), and other teams like that? They always seem to just play the 3 other blount county teams and their region. Itd be cool to see Maryville to play an MBA, Brentwood Academey, McCallie, or somone like that. How About a BA-Maryville game with a combined 18 state championship between them both? I think Maryville should jump out of blount county(i know Alcoa is good) but play somone else. Test the waters?

Teddy Gaines has been a defensive back/WR coach at Webb for the past 2 years.... Its fun to see him run the practice squad at QB ...no one on the field can catch him...he can fly....and u can tell he was a hard worker b/c he makes his players do alot of work.

If D-II is so easy then let them back in to play with public schools. The D-1 schools(Rakin) kicked them out b/c D-I couldnt win. Before the split private schools won 80% of the state championships. Oh and catholic never won a state championship in D-II and thats why they left and have had only 1 runner up...plus catholic knocked of the 2 time 3a champion Fulton and shoot Notre Dame is in the semis of 3a and they were one of the worst teams in D-II AA. Bottom line is no one on here can say anything about D-II schools when there not given the chance to play with D-I. All they can do is play the cards there given

Golden tate is incredible...he is one of the best players in the state bottom line. Ive seen lots of talented people play over here in the knoxville era such as Dustin lindsey, Brandon Warren, Cody watts, and Golden is a better athlete then them all.. none of thoes guys move like golden does. Their teams may be better but individualy i would not wonna have to deal with golden.

no webb wasnt afraid to play on thursday...they just thought the game was gonna be played on friday b/c that was what the contract said.. until they found out last friday that A-E needed to play on a thursday... It doesnt really matter. This should benefit A-E b/c theyve had 2 weeks to prepare as webb has only had 3 days.

This game might be played on thursday. The contract for the game is on friday but A-E says they have to play it on a thursday because they cant find people to work the game if it was on a friday. Webb could force them to play it on a friday based off the contract. But i bet they just play it on thursday anyway. kind of interesting What does everyone thing about this game? A-E is getting better and improvng every week. Theyve had there way with webb the past 2 years. Although webb is a better team than the past 2 years.

Webb decided to meet half way so they wouldnt have to travel to memphis twice in a year. i also believe webb is the away team. they will meet next year there too in nashville. it cost 8000$ to travel to memphis for a game. Next year will be cost alot for webb b/c they have to go to nashville 3 times and memphis 1. this also means for the game friday there will be probably a 100 people there and thats it. it will be interesting.
