  1. region 5 will get three wins in the 1st round(love to see region 6 represent but i know deep down that region 5 is the stuff and last year they ran the 1st round but we got a few better team this year),also Congrats on the 1st win of the year for you and your team. Well good luck to both teams tonight. I know deep down that four teams are going to line up and kick it off against four other teams next week, and I could care less about the outcome of a year ago. The teams representing Region 6-4A didn't work to this point to say "Well, Region 5 is stacked so let's pack it up". That's not the idea...and that's not going to be the approach. Best of luck to all teams representing this Region.
  2. Thanks for the vote of confidence again, Football Fan. Can we go ahead and get your prediction early for next week? Congrats MJ.
  3. That's obviously fair, although I feel Knoxville Central has that same right of consideration because they have been the ones to give Maryville the scare at times. Listen, I'm not from the Knoxville area, and don't profess to know a lot, but Central is a team that's hanging around, and as class as Maryville is, I guarantee you they consider them a top three contender. Also, I agree with the poster regarding Henry County. Henry County made it a tough out against Melrose in the playoffs, and they are a team that is definitely battle tested. Don't sleep on some of these 3-1 and 2-2 teams IF they have a power schedule. This class may not be the runaway that was predicted to be...at least, I'm not ready to mail out any trophies just yet.
  4. As I was at the Trousdale Jamboree. All teams that were varsity played two quarters, unless you are referring to the pee wee jackets from Trousdale vs. the pee wee Owls from Smith County. Demand a recount
  5. Scrimmage got a late start due to Shelbyville being held up by nasty wreck on interstate. All in all, a very positive outcome for the Golden Bears.
  6. Someone else has already made mention of this, but I'll bet you college coaches and pro scouts (like his own son) are giddy about this hire. Melrose is a factory for college and professional football players, and this hire fits the bill to continue that mold. However, making the transition from professional/college to high school is no easy task, even if there is prior experience on the resume'.
  7. Actually, the rules meeting and new coaches' classes are two separate entities. The rules meeting is available on the tssaa.org site, but will not come up until August 6. Try it at that point, and it will suffice in taking the place of actual attendance.
  8. That's a fair assessment, then. You are right about Trigg County if this is the case. In an effort to report accurately, I was not referring to alcohol or promiscuity in reference to their coaches' 'vice'. I have no question that that program has some serious character issues, but a contract is a contract. Keep in mind that Alcoa did experience the coaching change, and could have someting to do with the timing (although I am also aware that a coach inherits a schedule, and that this is part of the overall responsibility).
  9. I'm not an Alcoa fan, nor am I against them...having said that, understand that this comes from the least of biased opinions. Hopkinsville, KY has some of the least class I've seen in some time on one football team. I have been involved in passing tournaments with them, and have heard their coaches curse their players, players curse their coaches, and players curse players from the opponents' team as well as their own. They have very little sportsmanship and not to mention they have coaches on staff with some less than stellar off the field habits (I do not know them personally, I am referring to bits and pieces that I have witnessed). Long story short, they are easy to root against, and I totally understand Alcoa's pulling out of this situation. Lastly, Hopkinsville's reputation is ruined by their coaches', the kids only model what their coaches are doing, and from my angle, 'it ain't good'.
  10. Technically, Blackman was in the lead followed by Mount Juliet. The final four were to compete in a tug of war competition for the championship but it was called due to rain. The final leg of the competition didn't happen, so Mother Nature took home the real trophy.
  11. Better allow about 5 hours (with bathroom/gas stops)...no kidding, it will be a haul.
  12. Maybe the best post I have ever read on this site...it should be on a bulletin board as a creed for those making these decisions...thank you, and please post this on other similar threads as well.
  13. ..............(# of suggested periods missing from this post).
  14. That's agreeable to a point...and then there's the wrench more formally known as Melrose. They were one dimensional as you stated in a later post, but that one dimension happened to be a nasty defense (referring to the 2004 team). With more than adequate knowledge of the game, I left the 2004 championships thinking Maryville or Melrose could have been 5a champions. I also think this a year to year discussion. I believe that the Portland teams of 1999 or 2000 (29-1) could play with the Maryville's or Riverdale's during that stretch of two years. Don't get me wrong though, it IS strictly a year to year argument, and you are right in your statments in looking at the grand picture.
  15. Did, that honor now belongs to either Rhea County or Mt. Juliet if you look at the new #'s posted on TSSAA (Maryville is 3rd).
  16. Unbiased opinion here, not even a Tullahoma fan, but keep in mind even if you base it on last year, they did beat a top five team in Hillsboro in the regular season, and beat the top seed from region 6-4a (Beech) in the playoffs. Maybe not top five, but definitely top ten last year...this year's top ten will continue to showcase many familiar faces, and maybe a few new ones (that's falls under the category of "safe statements .
  17. Good synopsis, except I would say the physicality of the scrimmage was a half by half thing. First half belonged to Hickman County, Second half belonged to MJ. No doubt both of these teams have been in the weight room. Also, keep in mind MJ dropped a TD pass that Hickman turned into points, and had one int. that should have been caught for a big gain. Hickman's fumble was costly, but things such as these are things that can be corrected in the summer. Regardless, great work for both teams, and certainly both teams will be competitive in their respective regions. As most teams, including Hickman and MJ are concerned, it's even more exciting when thinking about the addition of spring sports players to the roster.
  18. Very strong effort by both squads...MJ varsity wins 21-14 in a 4 quarter game-type, and JV split two scores apiece in a 10 play-type. Both teams were very enthusiastic and it had a fall atmosphere...very exciting and good working relationship b/tn the two teams. Best of luck to both teams in the upcoming season.
  19. For clarification purposes, does that LHS stand for Lebanon High School or Lavernge High School?
