  1. It's a little early in the year to be using that as a guide. You have to look at who the opponents are, too. Gallatin has played Lebanon, Hillwood and Beech. Not exactly stiff competition.
  2. According to the TSSAA website, there are 13 undefeated 5A's: D. Bennett, Wm. Blount, Ooltewah, Smyrna, Gallatin, Antioch, Franklin, Independence, Dick. Co., Ridgeway, Wooddale, Houston and White Station. My picks: DB over Jeff Co Ool over Wm. Bl. Smyrna over Blackman Gallatin way, way over Glencliff Ant over Overton Frk over Ind DCo over Columbia Bolton over Ridgeway (could miss this, but it's a hunch) Whitehaven over Wooddale Houston over Kirby Wh. St. over Collierville That leaves 9 after tonight (or 10 if I miss on Ridgeway): D. Bennett, Ooltewah, Smyrna, Gallatin, Antioch, Franklin, Dick. Co., Houston and White Station.
  3. Look folks...ambiguousrock is a former back-up kicker for Centennial so his knowledge of the game far surpasses anything anyone on here will ever acheive. The valuable lessons one learns while holding for the starting kicker during practice are innumerable. Centennial's claim to fame is having A (that means one) decent year and beating Antioch in the playoffs when Lamarcus Coker had a broken ankle. rock...I have no dog in the hunt on this CHS beat AHS in the playoffs 3 years ago thing, but give it a rest. If Antioch played Centennial 100 times they'd probably beat them 99 so give your little thingy a rest and stop humping the one win. FACTS: Independence is not a top ten team YET. Beating Hendersonville last year was not a big deal. I never said region 5 has been great in the playoffs, but 5 getting better in the playoffs is more likely than the bottom half of 6 EVER getting better. Gallatin is very good. Antioch is MUCH better as a team this year. You were a back-up kicker on one of the worst teams in 5A history. Now...go hump your win.
  4. Hey...former back-up kicker dude...Centennial's not running the wing-t. They're still option based.
  5. I guess you haven't heard of punctuation. Yeah...you tell him...they can't brag like you Centennial guys.
  6. So, by this line of thinking, if Riverdale, The Little Sisters of the Poor, The Little Brothers of the Poor, The Mothers and Fathers of the Destitute and Woodbine, Flatrock, and Una's 7-8 year old teams had been in the same region, that would have been the toughest region over the last 15 years? If you're going to rank the regions, you have to look at EVERYBODY in the region. Region 6's top 3 have been as good as anybody the last few years. The rest of the region has been pathetic.
  7. I didn't mean that Ind. wouldn't MAKE the playoffs, I meant they won't make a run IN the playoffs yet (and no...they won't make the quarters). Agreed...scrimmages don't count, but if you think Rector didn't care about losing to Antioch and Coach Woodward, you need your head examined. I was there. This was played like a game and it wasn't much of one. The score was closer than the game itself. Ravenwood may get better and, yes, considering the region, they will make the playoffs, but Franklin is the only one who will make noise this year. I don't care what region teams were in, Columbia's never had much and NE hasn't since Travis Stephens left. The point is this though....this region typically has 3 teams and a bunch of others. The top 3 have been as good as anybody the last several years...the rest are, again, below ave. to awful. Given another year or 2, it will be those 3 and Ind. and the rest might as well start wrestling and playing basketball.
  8. Oh...and then there are the "never-rans" of the region...Columbia, NE and Centennial.
  9. Region 6 is usually pretty top heavy (FHS, RHS, BHS, then the rest are below ave to awful) This year I'm not even sure how top heavy it is. BHS appears to be pretty down but will make the playoffs because the rest of the region is it's usual weak self. RHS is struggling (yes, I know they barely lost to BA, but they also got smoked by Antioch and Father Ryan in scrimmages)...that leaves Franklin to probably walk away with it. Independence appears to be on the upswing, but not yet a contender playoff-wise and Dickson will probably be average as usual.
  10. I heard Antioch whupped up on 'em pretty good.
  11. AMEN! AMEN! AMEN! AMEN! AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!
  12. Hey RTB...we need to start a "tell old shadow stories" thread....that one could break the record for longest thread ever.
  13. Any time somebody talks about basketball it upsets me. It only reminds me that the sport has not yet become extinct.
  14. Good post shadow....I know one thing....I'd sure like to be a fly on the wall when you called to find out why your assistants didn't show up for the game. I bet that would have been more entertaining than the game.
  15. How did a thread on Hillsboro football turn into a Ravenwood basketball thread?
  16. How do you know I was passed over? Cartwright doesn't count...he was a HC at Franklin. Good list though.
  17. Hey RTB...who are some good ones from the past that you think got passed over?
  18. Ouch! ... I'm with RTB, whether or not they deserved the jobs, I definately wouldn't say they "paid their dues". There have been a long line of more than qualified assistants go through Metro, spend an entire career as an assistant, and never get a shot. What these two guys had was name recognition.
  19. I'm not saying these guys aren't good (I've only heard of two of them and that was as players, not coaches), but is there any reason other than the fact that you know these guys (or know of them) that you singled them out? By the way, RTB...good thread topic.
  20. I would guess Hemontoler would be one.
  21. I agree that they need to do it quickly. I think Herzog goes after it.
  22. Hey shadow. Before bigchief got us sidetracked we were talking about some of the best Metro staffs. I believe we've had 70's Maplewood, 80's and early 90's Overton, 80's McGavock, 90's Startford and Hillsboro's current staffs mentioned. I also threw in some of your SHS staffs were pretty good. I'll add some of the old Dupont staffs to the list, too. Any thoughts?
  23. "Double dip" means he is pulling retirement from the state and from a salary from a private school or out of state school. If he goes to Riverdale (which he won't) he'd have to come out of state retirement to do it.
  24. Well...it would have to be a list of former varsity coaches because no one could possibly come up with a list of 5 former freshmen coaches...except maybe another lifelong freshmen guy. Just so you know...I have no idea who you are. I'm just messing with you because you always seem to be so sensitive. I don't, however, believe for one second that you are content with what you are doing. If you were you wouldn't be so defensive about it. I bet Rees Groce wasn't that defensive.
