  1. why the doubt? they have just about everyone returning from the 4th place team. they seem like a very reasonable pick. they also broke the freshman 4x8 record at DH this year so they have to have at least a little bit of young distance talent
  2. it counts. he set it the exact same way the former record was set. this record will count too
  3. he's definately top 3 or 4 in the state but his prs are 10.79/21.89 compared to bentley 10.69/21.31, thats just a whole different league being almost 6 tenths ahead in the 200m. in TN that doesn't seem like a big difference but in most states there will be like 10 guys or more in a .58 second gap even at that high level. and byram is even further ahead with a 21.24.
  4. Did everyone forget that Ryan Johnson was a junior?? And so was Jackson if that counts for anything. I would say MLK for the team championship
  5. he's good but not really on the same level as guys like bentley and byrum
  6. agreed. i think matthews is running the mile at the distance carnival so we can find out how much he's improved since last year as a freshman. i think he can probably go close to 4:16-17 for the full mile, he's around the same level as keveren was his sophomore year. the difference is matthews is a 10k runner running times like that in the mile/2mile, keveren is made for those distances. matthews will be an absolute beast when he hits the college scene in the 5k/10k is matt coming in to run the mile too because i know mahaney is so if all 3 of the guys we have been talking about are in that race it would be pretty cool
  7. is he a football player? every decent sprinter in the state of tn just ends up playing football for utk. i was actually told that bryshon nellum himself may play football in college. i don't care how good of a football player you are, if you break 45 in the 400m in high school you need to be running professionally
  8. wow i completely forgot about how well john adam did at state. that's insane. he didn't run track did he?
  9. hahaha that's such an amazing post. seriously, what's the problem with etown? why do they all come on coacht and talk their team up then when they do even worse than any of us said they would they get on here and just flip out. someone needs to talk to their coach so he can sit down with the team and tell them to calm down
  10. i read this before reading what you replied to and was like wait a second didn't chris cole go like 4:22? but yeah mahaney is definately the best sophomore in a/aa. for the whole state i would go with sonnenfeldt (sp?) just because matthews isn't eligible yet. he went 4:22 or 23 at the state meet so i would say he is the best distance sophomore on the guys side
  11. he got second again in the 16. anybody know what happened to clabo in the 32? he was running faster times in indoor. did he just peak early or has he been hurt or what? hopefully gphstrack gets on here and answers for me
  12. very true, that is why she should win the 800 pretty easily but i wouldn't mind seeing what markie could do in a fresh 8, she went 2:21.5 after a 5:16 mile leading the whole way, she has a bright future. markie and kara hung with sybil in the 800m after running just the mile. at state they will both be running the 3200m also and the mile will probably be tougher with duble there to make it even faster so i don't think there is anyway they will have enough left in their legs to hang with sybil, especially in the last 100m
  13. yeah i meant they are both capable of doing that fresh just like clabo did but seeing as no one will be fresh and it will probably be a little more tactical i'm thinking high 27s low 28s and why did that guy bring up one of my posts from april 8 to tell me that gj can win state in the 800? when i posted that his best on the year was a 1:58, patterson, johnson, and bland can all go at least that fast, johnson probably won't at state due to the triple but the other 2 could probably do it if they run well and don't get boxed in early
  14. valid points there. unlike a lot of the people on this board you know a lot about running so you actually have reasons for your picks. but still, after seeing mahaney close a 9:51 in 61 i just don't see harper being able to hang with him in the mile even after mahaney runs the 32 in the morning. i think mahaney is easily capable of 4:25-26 as is johnson, they just cruised at section going out in 2:18. i think they will go 1-2 in the mile with johnson winning it. you so put almost the exact same times as me for the guys, the 4x8 is the only one that is more than .2 seconds off. that's cheating, but i think i will just take it as a complement to my psychic time picking powers.
  15. wow coniglio i am disappointed in you. you think harper can beat mahaney in the mile? mahaney went 4:30 splitting 2:18/2:12 i really doubt harper can hang with the top three. you are also severely underestimating markie voyles, she has been running faster times in the mile than duble plus she has a lot more speed so after the wear the 3200m will have on their legs she has the huge advantage with that 2:21 800m speed that duble doesn't have, and that 2:21 came after a 5:16 mile so she probably has more like 2:18-19 speed my changes: boys: johnson mahaney go 1/2 in the mile with clabo in third, 32 stays the same, 4x8 stays the same, 800 just put johnson in third girls: 800m switch kara and markie, move markie up to first in the mile, 32 stays the same, 4x8 lipscomb moves up to second predictions for winning times: boys: 9:43.7 - 4:27.8 - 1:58.9 - 8:16.3 girls: 11:22.6 - 5:12.2 - 2:20.7 - 9:56.4
  16. they were second in their section. i doubt their top guy will run the 4x8 at state because i think he will want to be fresh so he has a really good shot at winning state in the open 8
  17. how does sheffield have two guys going 1:59 and 2:01 in the 800 but their 4x8 only managed a 8:42. i really hope those 2 guys were not on the relay at section
  18. i thought it was pretty crazy that the mlk girls managed to get 3rd with only like 5 or 6 girls on the whole team. markie and kara were very impressive as were the pearl cohn girls
  19. i would say boys 4x4 then the girls 800 because the guys 4x4 was closer and they were fighting for state spots. the girls 8 had 4 girls all really close (not quite as close as the 4x4 but close) but they all knew they were going to state so they were just fighting to win the race and that was it. it was definately the second most exciting race though. it will be the same 4 fighting at state, neither of the other 2 sections has anyone close. its gonna be Sybil Levine winning it in the last 50m again with a 2:20.7, thats my prediction. the guys 4x4 at state will be extremely intense because it will probably determine who wins the whole meet like it does so many years. i know the middle should do well at state with lipscomb, fra, station camp, and mlk all getting a good number of events there. mlk won't do the best out of those 4 but in my opinion were most impressive as a TEAM getting all 4 relays to state, how often does that happen in A/AA? unfortunately they lack any big name individuals like ryan johnson or adrian bentley. who will be the big contenders from the other sections?
  20. well this is only the third year of the new qualifying format so it has never happened. the middle had 4 qualify in both of the first 2 years as well as all 4 spots in all 4 distance events (32 16 8 4x8) this year is pretty crazy with the middel getting just one of the 2 1600m at large bids and neither of the 800m at large bids. they still got both in the 32 and 4x8 though
  21. some shocking stuff in there. it looks like evans pope after the terrible injuries is still going to state in the final 400m spot. also, FRA gets to go to state in the 4x4. looks like patterson will be doing the 4x8 800 4x4 triple and nolan will be doing the 3200 4x8 4x4 triple. did the west get 4 guys in the 800m? its a pretty weird year
  22. not that fast 22.07 or 22.08 if by double you mean run both i'm sure he will but if by double you mean win both there is no way because bentley has gone way faster than 10.86, the 200m should be closer but i think bentley may still be a little faster. and that doesn't even include the memphis runners who's times i'm sure we will not discover until next wednesday. i agree 100% with the 800 comment. i had them both at 62 for the first lap because of some other runners going out entirely too fast and boxing them in but then closing in 59 oh and actually i think byrum will be trippling with the 4x4 at the end so that is even more impressive. he looked really fast in the 4x4 tonight. does anyone have a split on that?
  23. great 8, city, doug halls, those should be some good competitions
  24. unless this is an off year (which it may be for all i know, i'm not a middle seciton D2 expert) 48'11" won't do that well at state. schools like mba usually have some throwers but they may not this year
  25. i would agree with that. for some reason the relays slipped my mind
