The rule book does not require officials to keep a visual count, but states that one should be made when possible. In a situation where a wrestler goes straight to his back from a takedown, I typically begin the count in my head until I get into position to look for the fall. Oftentimes in those situations, I begin my visual count at two or three.

I officiated this year. I do not know if I will be able to next year. Yes, we are moving to East Tennessee; I have been accepted into the Quillen College of Medicine at ETSU.

Believe it or not, the TSSAA is not very good about communicating with first-year officials. The one thing I was told to attend was the rules meeting, and the officials were pulled to the side for no more than 10 minutes after the main meeting was over. Surely you do not believe that stalling is called consistently by all officials? I myself know it is not something I call terribly well. I think the Federation should produce some training videos that show multiple examples of stalling in specific situations. It would be best for veteran officials to review the videos with younger officials, but if that was not possible, there is no reason an online training program could not be offerred.

Overall, the refs at state did a great job. While I did see a handful of questionable calls, overall the calling was pretty solid. The one thing I think we as officials need to do better is to be more consistent in calling stalling. Unfortunately, we do not receive any direct training on stalling; hopefully, we in middle Tennessee can correct that in the near future.

I have watched and coached against Eric since he was a freshman, and I have called some of his matches this year. Eric has been dominant at this tournament, and I am very excited to watch something so positive happen for a Blackman program that has had so many setbacks happen this year. I will be cheering Eric on tonight, and look forward to him bringing home Blackman's 3rd individual state title!

I understand that not everyone comes into this world equipped with brains and class. In the future, I would encourage any individuals who lack either quality to refrain from posting idiotic messages on coacht. Josh Patton is a great wrestler and exceptional young man, and his father is an all-around great guy. I would have loved to have had him associated with my team.

Coach Bray, The flyer says we should weigh our wrestlers today after practice. I am a bit confused; how can you begin putting pools together when you do not have any weights? Also, the flyer I received says that rosters must be emailed by 9 AM Friday morning; I do not see anything about yesterday on it.

Hendersonville is one of the few schools in the state that actually takes the time to drug test their athletes. It is a bit silly to criticize them for allowing him to wrestle next year - almost no schools bother to conduct drug tests on their students in the first place. Also, to compare not wrestling at state to a "slap on the wrist" is ridiculous; state is the biggest, most important tournament of the year. When wrestlers who train hard all season do not get to wrestle at state, it is devastating (I have some personal experience here.) I know Drake and his parents; the kid made a mistake and he did pay for it. I am willing to bet his parents have him back on the striaght and narrow, and I am glad he will be wrestling again this year. He will represent our region well at state.
