  1. 2 great games tonight in Mt. Pleasant. Summertown trailed the whole game. By 9 at half and 9 to start the 4th qtr. Outscored MTP 19 to 6 in the 4th to take the win. Wayne Co. got down early to Perry County but battle back late in the 3rd and 4th. PC had a 2 point lead and turned over a throw in under WC's basket. WC scored and tied the game. WC gained possession again with the scored tied and called time out with 7 sec. left. After the timeout Rice drove the lane and appeared to travel but a foul was called on PC. With 1.2 sec. left, Rice made 1 of 2 free throws for the 56-55 lead. PC called timout but there desperation in-bounds pass bounced off their own backboard and WC recovered as time expired. This just in......Birdfan3 has been admitted to the the Perry County hospital emergency room. Something about getting jacked up by a borrowed mule. GET WELL SOON!!!
  2. I guess this thread can officially be closed now that Distict 11A has been shut down for the season.
  3. Moderators, Please move the previous post to the "WHINING ABOUT OFFICALS BECAUSE MY TEAM WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH TO WIN" thread. Sorry "Uknow" but implying that officials cost a team the game doesn't get a lot of attention on these boards. Most of the posters here know that 99.99% of the time the players deterermine the outcome of the game, not the officials. In fact, I doubt you would get anyone here to honestly say they have witnessed that .01% occurrence.
  4. A sub "available" actually means a sub "at the scorers table and ready to check-in" within the required time. A coach is allowed (I believe) 20 seconds from the time the coach is notified by the official of the player disqualification. After the allotted time, if no substitute is "available" to replace the disqualified player, a technical foul shall be administered.
  5. That borrowed mule kicked and just about caught PC on the jaw! It's unfortunate the officials allowed the incorrect shooter on that 1 and 1. Who knows how this one would have turned out had the right shooter walked to the line.....maybe the same, maybe not. Anyway, congratulations to PC on a hard fought victory. Good luck to all 12A teams. Show 11A who's boss!!!

    Next Year

Consistantly wide until the last 2 innings when he shrunk his zone to "typical". It doesn't matter what level he works, he definitely had a case of the "Eric Greggs". (see 1997 NLCS Game 5)
  7. J South Side at David Lipscomb postponed until tomorrow. Tentatively 3:00
  8. Anybody got a start time for this one?

3-man umpiring crew lost track of the count. 1st pitch to Pitts was a swinging strike on a curve ball in the dirt that went to the backstop allowing Gobble to score from 3rd. 2nd pitch was a called strike. 3rd pitch was a swinging strike. Umpire shows the count as 1-2. CA coach comes out. 3-man crew gets together and says it is 1-2. CA coach says lets look at my book in the dugout. HP ump goes to dugout, looks at book and goes back on the field to talk to his crew. Again, 3-man crew discuss and says count is 1-2. CA coach comes out says lets check the book upstairs (press box above concession stand). Dude in press box comes down to back screen and shows HP ump his book. 3-man crew gets together again and says count is 0-3. Pitts is called out and inning ends. In the end, they got it right but what a joke. Out of 3 blues (who were selected as an "A" crew to travel from out of town to do this game) none of them were able to accurately keep track of the count. Also, after checking with the book in the HOME TEAM dugout at the request of the CA HOME TEAM coach, which is usually considered the official book and deciding that the count was still 1-2, I don't know why the HP ump agreed to check another book. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

Scored was tied at 1 going into the 3rd. Harville and Huddleston went back to back to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead. 2 run single by Gobble put S'town up 5-1. Bottom of the 5th, Richland scored 4 runs capped by a 3-run HR by Parsons. All tied after 5. Neither team scored in the 6th or 7th. Ramsey floated a 2-out RBI single over the Richland SS to give the Eagles a 6-5 lead headed into the bottom of the 8th. Pitts (complete game) retired Richland in order for the victory.

Are they playing in Mt. Pleasant today?
  13. Okay, so R1 is stealing second and F6 is waiting for the throw from F2. F6 has his foot in front of 3" of the 15" wide base and R1 slides into his foot. F6 then catches ball and applies tag to R1. You are ruling obstruction on F6? ...and I absolutely understand and respect that you shall apply the rules per your camp instructors. I guess I just answered my own question. However,I do not agree with how your instructors have interpreted this, but then again, the Fed rulebook is not the most easily interpreted piece of literary work.
  14. It depends on the conditions that lead to the reason for a pitcher being removed. He cannot re-enter as a pitcher if he was removed due to defensive charged conferences. or... If he was removed and his replacement required more than 8 warm-up pitches.
  15. Entire ??? Fed rulebook states that defensive player must provide access to the base, does not use the word "entire" or any other word to describe what type of access, just "access".
  16. Don't interchange (defensive)obstruction and (offensive)interference. Most obstruction is a delayed dead ball (arm out). In you example above, it is a delayed dead ball, HOWEVER, as soon as the obstructed runner is played upon, as in the shortstop throwing to the plate, the play is killed and baserunners are awarded accordingly.
  17. I do not agree on how they got there, but... if interference is called on a force-play-slide then both the sliding runner and the batter are ruled out, the ball is dead immediately and runners are returned to their base at the time of the pitch. So if this is how this play was eventually ruled, again i don't agree on how they got there, then it is correct to return the runner to 3rd. The interference, if it actually happened should have been called immediately. You don't wait to see if the batter/runner is retired. Kill the play, call the interference, call the batter/runner out and send all other runners back to the base at the time of the pitch. I assume the defensive coach in this case knew the rule and knew if he could get the umpire to declare interference that he could get the run taken off the board and the runner back to 3rd. Good job coach.

    Rules

Groundball to 2B, throw pulls 1B off bag and onto the ground as he stretches. 1B reaches back with bare hand and slaps the bag before runner gets there. I bang him out, 1B coach says "he can't be out, he tagged it with his hand, not his foot".

    Rules

OK...we had the "umpires...why are they so bad" topic. Is this turning into the "stupidest comment from fans" topic??? If so, I'm in. Slow roller up the 3rd base line. Ball crosses over into foul territory. 3rd basemen, still with both feet in fair territory, reaches down and picks up ball. I kill it "FOUL". Moron (sorry, "rules knowledge challenged father") behind me yells, you guessed it, "he was in fair territory when he touched it blue!". Another? OK, 2 outs runner on 3rd deep fly ball to center. Runner crosses home plate before the catch is made. Fan yells "that run counts, he touched home before the guy caught the ball!" Classic.
  20. in other words.... if the ball contacts the runner which may have prevented an infielder from making a play, interference is called and the proper ruling above in enforced. Example...With runner on 3rd (R3) ground ball towards 3rd, 3rd basemen is playing A) in front of R3 or /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> behind R3...Ruling in A) no interference and ball is live and in play. In /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> R3 is ruled out and batter is placed on 1B with a single. Being in contact with base has no impact on this play.
  21. Contrary to popular belief, being in contact with the base when hit by a fair batted ball does not protect the runner from being called out. See exception below. From the FED rule book Rule 8.4.2.k---Any runner is out when he is contacted by a fair batted ball before it touches an infielder, or after it passes any infielder, except the pitcher, and the umpire is convinced that another infielder has a play. Ruling: Immeditate dead ball---Hit runner is out, batter is credited with a single and all other runners return to base occupied at time of pitch unless forced by batter/runner. Exception: If runner is touching his based when contacted by an infield fly, he is not out but the batter is out by the infield fly rule. Ball is still ruled dead in this exception.
  22. Dawg, most Summertown people do understand. This game meant nothing as soon as it was put on the schedule. Unfortunately there are a few individuals on here that thought this game did mean something and instead of running their mouth on here ought to be spending some worthwhile time in the cage.
  23. There may have been some confusion with the parties involved. In baseball, the batter can leave the bat in the zone without "attempting" to contact the ball. I believe in softball this year, a rule change requires the batter to withdraw the bat from the zone. In other words, in softball, leaving the bat in the zone without attempting to make contact is now a strike. Don't know if this rules difference had any bearing on how this but just offering some info.
