Before TSSAA, there were three organizations in Tennessee, west, middle, and east this was a long time ago. I believe it was in the thirties. You would have to check with the TSSAA. There might be a history on the TSSAA website tssaa.org. Clint- I definitely am an oldtimer.

There are three types of decisions that have to be made. The person in charge has to make some decisions. Ronnie made a decision. The next level is to have a select committee make decisions. Lastly, everyone involved should have input into the decision. Jackson, get over it! If you need a loan, I will work to see that you are accommodated. The officials select the OW and Best Match in the state tourney. I always had more controversy over these selections as opposed to calling the matches. Clint Abbott

Is the McCroskey kid Rusty's son. Rusty was a state champion at Seymour in the eighties and is a class act. If he is, congratulations to a proud papa. Clint

Hixson won the traditional tourney when Gordon Connell was head coach. We didn't start having the duals until mid-eighties.

I was always willing to talk to a coach after a match and get feedback. It didn't bother me for a coach to question my judgement. It did bother me for a coach to question my integrity. Something had to be done to keep a few coaches from constantly running to the table, I can remember times I thought we would never finish a match because you had to constantly explain every call to a few coaches.

The way that I have always called the split scissors is depending on the direction of the pressure. If the pressure is parallel to the body it is okay. I always tell the top wrestler to not try to separate the bottom guy. It would be illegal if the top was trying to injure the bottom in the officials opinion.

Congratulations to Cade and his family, his father Wayne is a class act, although I don't know his mother or the rest of his family, I would bet bunches that they are also class acts. I will be watching his progress- I hope- my age might be a factor.

Pez will be truly missed. I had the priviledge of working several of his matches. He worked harder in the match against Bill in the finals in 1969 than I had ever seen a heavyweight work. He always came down to see me at the state tourney. I visited with him in the hospitality room last year. He was a friend to wrestling. My prayers and sympathy go to his family. Clint Abbott

Jim Pryor was a friend of mine and a former teammate at Maryville College. He was an excellent educator who will be missed. I was in Gibbs High last year and he was admired by teachers and students. The World will not be as good without Jim.
