  1. Thanks for the specifics about the refs!!!! It is really a shame to hear about refs doing the sort of stuff that you outlined! It all reminds me of the "snow job" that the refs tried to put on undefeated Mphs Hamilton, years ago-- during its State Title game (win) over Shelbyville. I wonder if these are the same refs, rearing their ugly heads again... Anayway, it was downright disgraceful to watch those refs blatantly try to take the game from Hamilton! Thank God they did not succeed. AMEN TO THAT!! I was at that game and I was stand up and yelling so hard at the ref's and I didn't even live in Memphis. Myron Strong had all ball when Barry Stewart went up for that shot and anyone who says otherwise is blind like the ref was. It was such a shame that Hamilton wasn't at full strength after Jeremy Williams turned his ankle in the first game in Murfreesboro because Shelbyville wouldn't have even been close. Jay Watkins literally put that team on his back and would not be denied. It was about as bad as I have seen one player want it and will his team to vicory. Hate to see any team get screwed like Hamilton almost did.
  2. The score posted on the scoreboard is the correct final. I didn't think it was either because I heard it on the Fulton broadcast then switched to the Oak Ridge broadcast and they confirmed that the final score was 29-14. Sounds like this one was exciting.
  3. Not at the game, just heard on the radio. Jalen Steele has 13, Galen Campbell 8, and Robert Boyd 5.
  4. The Forum would be perfect for three reasons. 1. The local players who watch NBA games there would get to play on the same floor. 2. It is the only logical venue in the city nice enough and big enough to accomidate the masses wanting to see the games. 3. The Forum is a lot closer to the Murphy Center unlike all high school gyms and would give the players an opportunity to shoot in a gym set up the same way.
  5. This is why anyone who has an opportunity to go see some of the Region 8AAA tournament needs to go. Dunks like that although not exactly like that but to that degree are a bit of a regular happening in that region.
  6. Here are a couple of pictures from the White Station Melrose District Championship Game. I've just linked a couple of the better ones. Joe Jackson http://www.commercialappeal.com/photos/galleries/white-station-melrose---february-23-2010/19663/#section_header Nate Rucker dunks over former teammate Nino Johnson http://www.commercialappeal.com/photos/galleries/white-station-melrose---february-23-2010/19681/#section_header
  7. Dyer County vs. Bolton Munford vs. Cordova Craigmont vs. Brighton Raleigh Egypt vs. North Site
  8. I could be wrong but I think it's at Wooddale as it was last year.
  9. I just saw the score in the Commercial Appeal. Joe Jackson scored 47. Anyone go to the game? From the look of the box score East let Joe Jackson get his but stopped pretty much everyone else for White Station. East earlier handed Melrose one of their 4 losses as well. Is East a team to watch come tournament time?
  10. Thanks for the information. Hopefully both make it back.
  11. Anyone have any information to share?
  12. Forgive me for asking what is probably an obvious question but I wanted to know what was up with Siegel. I am orginally from West Tennessee and moved to Murfreesboro in November after previously living in Memphis for a year. I have attended the State Tournament every year since 2005. I have seen Siegel a few times and I remember 2 years ago that they had a good team with a lot of talented sophomores and that Kerry Hammond was a finalist for Mr. Basketball last year as Jr. Last night I went to the Siegel - Blackman game and looked over and saw Hammond in street clothes at the end of the bench. Upon noticing this another player in street clothes also about the same size as Hammond was wearing a walking boot. After suffering through watching what was a good atmosphere but not very well played game I was curious what the injuries to the two players are looking like and when or if they are expected to return. It won't be long until tournament time and I hate for any team not to be at full strength when time comes. Thanks in advance for the information.
  13. No worries. As far as I know Camden will be the only team west of the Tennessee river that is in 12AA. It will be fun for some of the old 12AA rivalries to be renewed. Back to the days when 12AA won 4 straight AA titles.
  14. Just FYI it won't be district 12AA it will be district 14AA
  15. All I know is it was a very lopsided score of 68-45 Raleigh Egypt. Would love to hear some info from someone who was in attendance.
  16. You're absolutely correct. Johnson absolutely abused Hall in the first half and Williams just looked like he wasn't atheletic enough to play in that style of game. Liberty played a lot harder and bigger than they were inside and thats something you have to admire about Dexter's teams. Hall was only semi effective later in the game when Liberty was only looking to penetrate and draw contact but even then he wasn't that much of a factor. Not to knock Hall and Williams because they are both fine players but that just wasn't their style of game. Liberty was a nightmare of a matchup for the starting lineup White Station went with. I was surprised when after halftime Patino put them all back out there together. It was also good to see Julian Burton get some minutes though it's obvious he's not anywhere close to where he was.
  17. Hats off to an extremely undersized and scrappy bunch from Liberty. The Crusaders came into the game tonight against a much bigger much more talked about team and gave them all they wanted. Liberty started the game shooting very well and they attacked White Station inside instead of staying away from the large advantage that White Station had inside. Liberty lead by as much as 10 and possibly 12 as late as 3:00 to go in the 3rd quarter. White Station cut the deficit to 39-34 after at the end of 3 quarters. White Station then opened the 4th with a 6-2 run before Dexter Williams took a time out with 6:50 to go. After that it seemed that White Station just wouldn't relax and allow Liberty to get to the rim shooting layups like they had the rest of the game. White Station realized that in order to play the style of basketball that Liberty forces you to play they would have to play small with Joe Jackson, Patrick Coleman, Harry Green, Andre Hollis and forgive me #10 the other 6'2 player's name escapes me at the moment. This lineup allowed the Spartans to keep the game close. At about the 3:50 mark Harry Green hit a monster 3 for the first tie of the game at 46-46. One would think that this would break Liberty's back after having a big lead and control of the whole game but Williams' team was resiliant. Liberty promptly responded opening a 4 point lead until Jesus Patino took a timeout with the score 50-46. Harry Green hit another big 3 to pull the Spartans within 1. Both teams began attacking inside and Liberty seemed to start to turn over the ball while White Station started to convert as well as hit free throws. White Station regained the lead at the .50 mark with an Andre Hollis' inside shot who then stepped to the line and converted the 3 point play to give White Station a 53-51 lead that it wouldn't relinquish. This play proved to be the straw that broke the camel's back because along with losing their final lead Liberty's best player Ricky Williams fouled out. Liberty turned the ball over and then Andre Hollis stepped to the line again to give White Station a 55-51 lead with 30.5 to go. Liberty then drove down the floor and threw the ball into the waiting arms of a Spartan wearing none other than #1. Ironically Joe Jackson only hit one of two at the line and had several seconds earlier missed the front end of a one and one. Liberty then made a layup closing the game to 56-53 then fouled Hollis who made two more pushing the lead to 5 at 58-53. A crusaders' layup concluded the scoring at 58-55. One of the keys of the game seemed to be the unheralded defense that was provided off the bench by Patrick Coleman. Congratulations to Dexter Williams and the Liberty Crusaders for an excellent gameplan and never going away when it would have been easy to mail it in and call it a game. It's extremely impressive how much Williams' gets out of his teams year in and year out. Congrats to Jesus Patino and White Station for hanging in on the superb play of Joe Jackson for making another state tournament appearance. Just an interesting side note... University of Tennessee Men's Head Coach Bruce Pearl and Assistant Coach Steve Forbes were in attendance. Just going from memory and sent text messages so some of the info could be a little off here and there.
  18. bolivar and Jackson southside 2004 I think played 2 regular season district and region championships and for the state title bolivar won all 5
  19. Anyone out there besides me that was in attendance tonight? Hats off to both White Station and Ridgeway. One of the better games I have seen in the last few years. Not a great shooting performance by either squad but definately one of the hardest faught games all year.
  20. http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2007/...11/terrific-02/ That is a link to an article in the commercial appeal discussing the 4 transfers from Westside which was closed who now play for Manassas.
  21. I think that it's funny that only Dyer County people are high on him. As for the coach of the year, 9 out of 10 times, the winning coach gets the award. Anyone else find it funny that two years in a row nobody has voted for him? I don't live anywhere near Dyer County but I have heard things from other coaches and fans that don't play Dyer County much at all and i haven't heard too many nice things about him and that's putting it extremely mildly. I'm not trying to stir up anything or to say that I don't like the guy because what I think doesn't matter. I just think everyone shoud look at the situtation objectively before getting defensive and making rash and harsh remarks. Can we all get over the pitty crap for the next week and let the games play themselves out.
  22. HAHAHA Yomomma's got jokes!! They got lucky to win last year, and this year's competition will be MUCH tougher. If you want to see some good teams from the West, come on up, but take it from someone who has been at every state tournament game the last 5 years, Union City and Manassas are probably two of the best A teams over that period.
  23. The polls are useless. I'm sure that 90 percent of it is based on record which is absurd. For example, look at Humboldt which was 2 and Manassas which was 4. Manassas had as large as a 34 point lead in the third quarter. If people are going to vote in the polls and be objective, they should actually go watch the teams before voting.
