  1. So do you want a cookie?? Can I call you "arrogant" as that is your favorite comeback when you are left speechless for comebacks. Also, sorry to rain on your parade, but you also did say and I quote "UC and Humbolt are twice and three times in some cases the size of every school in the district" Union City is 4th in terms of enrollment in there district. Not any where close as to what you are trying to get others to believe. All kidding aside.....I will give you props for your guesses though as to the scores as they were on the money.
  2. I know that its sad to say, but I agree with this as well. I was dissapointed and was expecting more. I believe that they have some young talent and they will be back in future years.
  3. oh...believe me I am with you 100%. They could play 10 times and split 5 and 5. As you say, who cares?? I am in the same boat as you regarding that. I just wanted to state the facts of the competition that Union City played in the tournaments as I felt they were being called out. Good luck to Dyer County!
  4. Pretty bold statement that you made in that Bolivar and Dyer County "are most likey as good or better than the teams in the Poplar Bluff showcase" First of all the best comparison is this: DC lost to Liberty Tech this year but will not count it on there record. Liberty came in 4th at Poplar Bluff where Union City won it all. The teams that UC beat at Poplar Bluff were the following: Georgia Harrison currently 20-8 of which HALF of there losses came to USA Today #3 in the South; Georgia Norcross & also Marietta #10 ranked team in ANY classification in the basketball tough state of Georgia. Also beaten was Raytown South out of Kansas City, MO which is currently 2nd in there region but is holding bridesmaid to Raytown (same town, different school) which is a POWERHOUSE team (#1 ranked in any classification in MO). Georgia Harrison's starting line-up was like this: 6'7" 6'7" 6'6" 6'4" 6'2" What better practice could a coach ask for in a holiday tournament?? Especially since Union City's tallest player is only 6'2"!!! And to top it off Union City OUT-REBOUNDED THEM by 10 boards!! I shouldn't have to prove as to why Union City traveled to Poplar Bluff for this tournament. Every team that was there travels NATIONALLY every year to play top competition. Win, lose or draw it helps when tournament time comes around. If you will look at the teams other than Union City that was at the Poplar Bluff tournament, they all have USA Today Ranked teams on there schedule. This, my friend, is why Union City goes to these places. And according to you I am assuming that you suggest that Union City not go to these places and travel to Dyer County or Bolivar??? DC and Bolivar have great programs no doubt, but come on. I feel you are totally missing the point. To shed some more light: I know these are computer rankings but I will share what they think. These rankings take into consideration teams??™ opponents records on a NATIONAL SCALE and rank them according to that. Overall TN Rankings: 1 Antioch (TN) 2 Bearden (Knoxville, TN) 3 Ridgeway (Memphis, TN) 4 Manassas (Memphis, TN) 5 Raleigh-Egypt (Memphis, TN) 6 Union City (TN) 7 LaVergne (TN) 8 Oak Ridge (TN) 9 Christian Brothers (Memphis, TN) 10 Washington (Memphis, TN) 11 Briarcrest Christian (Eads, TN) 12 Maplewood (Nashville, TN) 13 Maryville (TN) 14 Shelbyville Central (Shelbyville, TN) 15 Kirby (Memphis, TN) 16 Mitchell (Memphis, TN) 17 Clarksville (TN) 18 Dobyns-Bennett (Kingsport, TN) 19 Nashville Christian Advancement Academy (Nashville, TN) 20 Dyer County (Newbern, TN) To me, looking at schedules, Dyer County is the one needing to branch out and play more quality competition and prove where they should belong (which is MUCH, MUCH better than 20th overall in TN which should be obvious.) But you see my point? To get recognition, you have to play good teams and beat good teams. It only makes you better. Dyer County is an awesome team and one that I am hoping will win it all truthfully. But for you to question that the competition that Union City played during the holiday tournaments was not up to par, that is what I have issue with as that is a totally ridiculous statement.
  5. For some that say Union City is not a well rounded team, here are some stats: Union City only hit 3 three's all night. Tony Wilkins was virtually unstoppable. I mean unstoppable. One of the best performances I have ever witnessed. He was 16-17 from 2 point range taking it right to the goal every time against a taller Humboldt team. 1-2 from 3-point range. 2-2 Free Throws. Overall 17-19 for a total of 37 POINTS!! Oh by the way...MJ scored 23pts as well.
  6. Its no biggie. I just want you to understand the difference as you are only basing this off of one sentence in the local paper. When colleges only have so many schloraships to offer, they better make darn sure that their recruit is very interested before they send over the papers to sign on the dotted line. To have 9 different one's "in hand" is hard to believe unless he has visited ALL nine D1 schools and expressed MAJOR interest to all 9 of them to sign. See my point?? I hope you are right honestly. It would be outstanding for DC and him as it would be well deserving. I really would like to see him and MJ go to UT Martin. With Blake, MJ and Weddle man that would be awesome to watch. UT Martin is getting TONS of pro scouts attending there games this year watching Hudson. He will end up going pro probably no higher than the 2nd round from what I hear if he leaves. I just love it that a true freshman in Weddle is doing so well with these pro scouts in attendance. There have been many games of which Hudson has struggled and Weddle has picked up the slack and scored 20-30pts per game. This really speaks well for local high schools like Union City (and Dyer County) to produce talent like this. These guys come from small towns and are not looked at coming out of high school that much other than mid level D1 schools, but when given the opportunity, they can turn some heads and produce numbers. Weddle and Hudson are now like the second highest scoring duo in the nation of any team in D1. That is pretty awesome if you ask me.
  7. Sorry, but I'm calling BS on this one. Letters of interest, I totally believe. Complete offers with signing papers in hand from 9 D1 Schools, I highly doubt it. If so can you prove us all wrong and name all 9 of them? Keep in mind that this has to be ligitimate "offers" not just interest. If you can do so then I stand corrected. From looking at past posts, I believe that you are getting all of your info from local press which never went specific on the differences of the two, (which is not your fault). They just took what was told to them without doing any research to take the sugar coating off the top. Regardless, this is all pointless anyways. Blake is an outstanding player and SHOULD get lots of attention. I am just stating there is a BIG difference in "offers" and "interest" and I believe that you stating he has "9 D1 offers" means that he has 1-3 mid level (OVC Caliber) D1 schools that might have made an offer and several possible others that are interested.
  8. I already told you once and I will tell you again. Those stats were taken DIRECTLY from the Jackson Sun. Apparantly you did not read that in my post did you?? Here is the DIRECT QUOTE: "Brown is averaging 22 points, five rebounds, seven assists and four steals per game." Whether they are right or wrong that is what it said. Not my fault. They were wrong by a TOTAL OF 1.8pts PER GAME!!! (as MJ Brown season wide averages 20.2pts per game) This is what you are getting hung up over???? Are you kidding me??? Since you opened the door about stats i'll add with this....in 13 regular season games against state ranked teams or foes from larger classifications, MJ Brown's scoring average is at 24.2 pts per game. Overall averaging 52.6% from 2 point land and 42% from 3 point land. This correctly reflects the discrepencies from blow-out wins and his lower scoring averages against weaker opponents. You can't score sitting on the bench when you are up by 20+ You can say all you want, but those are the FACTS. I will cite my references as well....UC Daily Messenger Front Page...Feb. 20th edition. Open mouth...insert foot. Keep digging your hole and getting away from your initial post about the rankings. That is what this post was started about in the first place by you remember?? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  9. Regardless who was there or not, it doesn't matter. A loss is a loss. Manassas has 5 of them, Union City has NONE. It might be an argument if Manassas only had 1 or 2 losses, but they HAVE 5!!! You starting this post was about who should be RANKED #1. Now is the time for it all to be on the line. Tourney time is what matters most. Season wise, no question, Union City is #1 and no other 1A team will even come close regarding where they should be ranked considering everyone's records. End of discussion about rankings. Rankings are out the window now though as it doesn't matter unless this is like the BCS. Let the kids play it out and whoever wins congradulate them for it.
  10. If they win it all I promise I will be the first one congratulating them as they will be deserving no doubt. Even if they don't, but still beat UC or Humboldt, I will do the same as all this should be settled on the court. That is not the issue that you started this post with though. You are saying that they should be RANKED #1 according to there season. After there 5 losses how can you even say this??
  11. Your ignorance is unbelievable...... I have thousands of points about this but will need only one to prove my point.... Union City is UNDEFEATED. Manassas has 5 losses and one of which is to BOLTON WHICH IS 14-8!!!!
  12. ......and they are undefeated. How many loses does Manassas have again?? Look at the national computer rankings and the teams that UC beat during the holiday tournaments as they are ranked much higher than any team that Manassas has beaten there whole season......AND UC beat Mitchell as well....AND Liberty Tech came in fourth at the tournament of which UC won in Poplar Bluff. How can you say they should be #1 when the schedules in an apples-to-apples comparison are even?? (on a national scale because CoachT does not include Strength of Schedule of out of state teams) AND...Manassas has several losses and UC is undefeated??? AND UC has played 2 of the top 5 single A teams and beat them a total of 5 TIMES all together. (Humboldt 3 times which is ranked 2nd and ahead of Manassas by the way /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> , and LC twice) I know that Manassas is a good team and we will all see how far they will get down the road, but to say they should be #1 in the rankings....man come on. Rankings are pointless regardless. From here on out is all that matters.
  13. Not counting Hall of Fame games is pathetic regardless of who you are so I feel your pain about the Humboldt situation. I never got on you about the Humboldt situation as they should have counted it as a loss as well...period. If they are a full game and played, then they should count towards your record. UC counts them and always has win or lose. Records & rankings are pointless, winning state titles is everything.
  14. Funny you quoted this as this is the first time all year that Manassas is listed ahead of Union City. I watch the computer rankings alot and actually like them because it takes into consideration out of state teams and there records. Here is some insight though that you are misssing out. First...Union City's top two toughest opponents (Raytown South and Harrison, GA are ranked much higher than any team that Manassas has beat this year. It lists the second toughest team that Manassas beat is Mitchell of which UC beat as well. Also, it doesn't list that Union City beat Mitchell AT ALL. Take this mistake into the equation and UC would be much higher. (Union City was #2 overall at one point in the year by the way on this poll) What kills UC is the records of South Fulton & Gleason of which UC HAS to play TWICE. No way around it. I could counter with your complaints of UC's "cupcake" schedule with these facts: UC has beaten nationally a team of a caliber that Manassas has not. (according to the polls that you want everyone to see!!) Also, Manassas opponents have an overall losing record of 287-315 While Union City's opponents have an overall winning record of 294-256. Regardless, Manassas is very good. Union City is very good. Hopefully both will make it to the boro and put it all on the court. I'll be pulling for you guy's, trust me. I would love to see the showdown.
  15. You are totally wrong as it was the other way around. FYI the correct info was on the boards earlier but was removed. Regardless, it doesn't matter as it is done. We can go back and forth on this, but it is pointless. Dyer County has a heck of a team and they have my support 100%
  16. Fact: Offer was made for it to be at UC...declined Offer then was made for it to be at UC and split the gate...declined Final offer for a split gate at DC....declined as well. UC might of gotten beat. If so, whats the big deal? Great practice. DC would not be the toughest competition that Union City has faced this year as there are out of state teams much tougher and ranked nationally much, much higher according to the computer polls. The only real comparison of similiar played schools is that Liberty Tech came in 4th in the Poplar Bluff tournament of which UC won. They lost to 2 teams that UC beat. Liberty Tech beat Dyer County this year. I see it as DC was in a lose-lose situation. If they win, so what, they beat a single A team is what most would probably think. If they lose, well you know the rest. Might be a good call though as I would hate for someone to get hurt before the tournaments. Both clubs have great respect for each other. Its a shame the DC coach declines a friendly game that would make for great practice. This might be for the best though however, as again it would stink for Blake or MJ to get hurt on something meaningless like this. Best of luck to DC down the road!!
  17. The ball is in DC's court again. Its there call.
  18. I'll answer this as well. I watched both games and numerous other UC games. BOTH games with LC were the worst games that I have personally seen UC play. Just being truthful. Now though, I really have to hand it to LC for an excellent game plan as there is no doubt that they should have won it the way that UC was playing. When was the last time that Union City had more turnovers than there opponents?? That was the case tonight. You can only say good defense for some of them, but when UC is on fast breaks and throws the ball away time and time again, loses a wide open rebound, etc. etc. it just appears that the kids are not into the game mentally. It took a fourth quarter charge from MJ to get them fired up. He probably should do this more often I believe untill someone shuts him down. Some of it might be to LC's gameplan of slowing the ball down. Everytime this happens it seems UC gets out of sync. They should have gotten beat plain and simple. For some reason the first 3 quarters UC just were waiting for someone to step up and do something. The 4th someone did when MJ took over. All in all though, Lake County played an awesome game that was well thought out and prepared. Kudos to them. Truthfully though, man for man, UC just is too talented overall.
  19. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> Oh its alot closer than that...trust me. I guess we will find out tomorrow morning. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
  20. These stats were taken straight from the Jackson Sun.
  21. I believe that Booker T lost a Hall of Fame game but they chose not to count it towards there record. If I am wrong on this someone please clarify.
  22. MJ Brown Union City Here are my reasons: 1. The leader on the only undefeated team still in the state in any classification (HOF games included) 2. Is currently the reigning Mr. Basketball (won the award as a junior) 3. Made the game winning shot at the buzzer vs. then state ranked #4 Lake County in a hostile environment @ LC. 4. The leader of the team that played and beat larger classification schools in-state such as: Livingston Academy, Mt. Juliet, Sycamore, JSS, Memphis Mitchell, etc??¦ 5. He is averaging 22 points, five rebounds, seven assists and four steals per game. Could score way more but playing minutes have been limited due to big leads and unselfishness. 6. Also should note that the reason he is not selfish and doesn??™t try to score more is that Union City has six players that have at least 20 3-pointers, seven different players have led a game in scoring and the team is 12-players deep. They have seven different kids that can score in double-figures on any given night 7. He was MVP Scoring Leader of the Poplar Bluff Shootout Tourney in MO where he averaged 30.7ppg. 8. Teams that UC played and beat at Poplar Bluff were 5A School Harrison Georgia which has a record of 17-4 and is the #5 ranked 5A school in the state behind Wheeler, Norcross, Marietta & Savannah. Also beat Raytown South which is a 5A Missouri school that is currently 12-4. Beat another 5A school in Mills University Studies out of Little Rock which is currently 11-5 and ranked #6 statewide in Arkansas. Also, by the way, TN 3A Liberty Tech was in this tournament as well and placed 4th overall for comparison. For the enrollment guy??™s that are curious, here were the school enrollments that UC competed against at Poplar Bluff: Harrison: 2650 Raytown South: 1500 Poplar Bluff: 1250 Liberty tech: 1050 Mills: 1000 Sikeston 800 Union City: 370 Maplewood: 300 9. Also leader of the team that won the Battle of the State Tourney against larger classification teams such as: Livingston Academy, Mt. Juliet, & Sycamore etc. I know there are some good candidates, but name another player in Single A that has seen this type of competition and excelled against them to perfection (leader of an undefeated #1 Ranked team)??
  23. I totally agree with you on this. Reigning TN Mr. Basketball and one I would consider the man to beat for it again this year hands down.
