The Gold football will once again head west in 2015. NCS ( if you call that west ), Trenton and Union City. Union City reloaded once again. Trenton will also be very good with many skilled positions returning but with the loss of their great coach ( coach Wood who brought their only championship to them ), that should be interesting. Everyone knows what they have to "try" to do in stopping Union City, Stop the run...stop the Veer. Right ? NCS should have what it takes with that many returning this year ( 21 of 22 ? ) BUT, to claim a GOLD or Silver Football, they will have to beat either Union City or Trenton. No matter if the game IS in Nashville, doesn't matter to Union City. Hope we get that chance once again. Many are saying it could be a three peat for Union City. Trust me, they will and are going to be that good again. I really doubt anyone from NCS will say much as Union City has dominated them the last 2 years and flat out embarrassed them last year. No disrespect NCS, you have a pretty good team but you kinda found out the hard way of what good old fashion, simple run the football can do to a team who is not prepared. Well, here we are once again with the start of the 2015-16 Football seasons under way. How time fly's when you are having fun. The last two years have come and gone so fast but at the same time....history was made in many ways both locally and statewide with the 2014 & 2015 U C State Football Champions. This year, LOADED once again. Union City weakest point could be their line but on the other hand, we have had new kids come out, kids who did not play and sit out a year or so will be back, new kids have moved in that will step in and start. Yes, we lost 12 seniors from last season, 12 of the greatest and most decorated seniors to ever wear a football uniform at UCHS. This years seniors could even top that so be ready...we are coming at ya. No trash talking from me this year. We have gain the respect of others, locally( well maybe not South Fulton, Lake County, Greenfield ) and statewide. won back to back state championships with a DOMINATING TEAM this past season. A 27 game winning count on going. Our district will be tough this year and more than likely the winner from it will be state champions. Trenton will be loaded, Dresden will be lots better and always throw Lake County into the mix. South Fulton will also possible make some noise. Union City will be VERY STRONG, very fast and will have a team that can go back, to back to back "IF" this play out right. Two years ago, many of you thought it could never be done so do not doubt Union City, EVER ! . They are going to be that good. The Veer will be in good hands once again. This time with at last 4 fullbacks. Not going to go into detail but just know that Union City will line up and run the ball all season. Should be another fun season. So, like I said, no trash talking from me this season unless someone else starts it ( lol ). Winning and how it has been done is simply amazing to say the least and how Coach Bowling has rallied his troops over the past 7 years to build the program like he wanted it is truly AMAZING. Old school football at its best. Union City has proven it can beat private or public, it doesn't matter who we play. Can't wait til the lights are turned on. Union City has been tested. Mitchell has not. If the game with Mitchell comes down to coaching, major edge U C. Loretto played well but no one outside the U C fan base in middle or east Tennessee would understand. Union City taking longer to get going..pass ball around more the last three games than all year. Mitchell ...I hope they come in with the "memphis mentality" because U C will be prepared and ready.

Talkin' about football. Now buddy, we have that goin' on also. I mean, we TOTALLY DOMINATED single A and AA this year. Our team was good enough that many said we would have won AAA title. We will be vey good again next year. We have won the state in football the last two years. We beat just about everyone by 50 - 60 points this past year and could have scored 100 on two or three teams but when it was 41 - 0 at the end of the first quarter, coach played 3rd string. Our school is a Multi sport, GOLD Ball championship school. Our girls won the sate last year and went 37 - 0, or football team is on a 27 - 0 run right now, our girls also won a silver ball in 2013. Last time our boys won the state in basketball, 2008-09 season and was also 37 - 0. Not braggin' , just wanted to say how proud we are of our sports and academics at Union City High

Hampton played a fine game. Union City didn't shoot well. Was it the D and/or combo of gym ? Either way, it was what it was. Hampton heads home, Union City heads to the next level of the bracket. Union City will be more relaxed come Friday. Union City was up 10 and then 12 and should have put game away but like I said, it is all water under the bridge now. Next is Loretto. Union City with two kids at 17 points each. Parker Stewart gets better every game. Imagine this kid as a Senior ! Union City will settle down and play their game come Friday or lets hope so. These are kids, it affects them all basically the same way. They are nervous and once the jitters get out of the way, the relaxing part sets in, the game will come to them. Loretto knows what it has to do. Union City needs to crash boards a little more, a few more trees to fall and the game should be in favor of Purple and Gold. It doesn't matter if you win by 1 or 31, making the next line on the bracket sheet is all that is important. Once again, good game Hampton.

Wish I could make it but it looks like last minute deal has come up and will be staying in West Tennessee were I travel with work. Hope to be able to listen to at least the games wherever I might be. Be safe everyone.

I agree about shooting in different type arenas BUT, do you not play in different gyms all season, colors back ground, different depths in goal areas, seating behind goals, etc. So, when you are a good shooing team like Union City, t will not affect them much at all. They will be practicing in other gyms o be ready. Both teams will have the case of the nerves going into the game so anything can be a distraction. Our coaches have been there before, lots of times and in big games so that is NOT a factor either. If Union City doesn't try to get in a hurry like they did in the first half against TCA, they will be fine. As you know, the really settled down in the second half and embarrassed TCA basically. And TCA was a good team. So to respond to the shoot problems in the Boro "Glass House" Gym, I really do not think it will cause to many problems for Union City.

Hey pedro, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, LOL ! You will see first hand if you are at the game what exactly we will do to your team. Our kids have a TON of respect also, just ask the TCA players and fans. I just know how your end of the state plays basketball and how ours play. By the way, have now watched the last 5 games your team has played, better bring your A++++++ game cause your going to need it pal.

ok poof...or pujo or whatever you name is. I just watched 3 films of your team. today and yesterday. I really didn't see what I was expecting. From what we saw from TCA...they would whip your boys up and down the floor. You see, the type games and teams that come from your neck of the woods are little different. Usually, a team from the west dominates in the state tournament. When we run up against a "hoover" type team and you see a team from the west....two different type styles for sure. I personally, from what I along with three others watched, didn't see anything at all that Union City has not faced. Matter of fact, we have seen your style probably more than you have seen your own. Now, about last year when you guys played Mitchell, yes, you played them in the semi's but I thought you or someone said it was a close game....lol. I just read over the entire stat sheet and entire game stats. You played them on a neutral floor. We played Mitchell on THEIR floor and was in the entire game until the last 2 minutes when they pulled away and won by 10 ( Mitchell that is last year at Memphis ) 54 - 44. We actually lead several times and was a back and forth game. Now...your stats are as follows on a Neutral floor. 1st quarter, Mitchell 22, Hampton 7. At Half, Mitchell 30, Hampton 18. Game, Mitchell 57, Hampton 44. Your team was 30 - 5 going into last years game. Sir, we will be there to make the finals...we will take it one game at a time. Like I said, ask the TCA folks, they are already giving your team very little hope and they just knew they could come into our place and win. Now, their team COULD play in our district, they are that good but we are also good enough we took them to the woodshed this past Tuesday night. So, I wish both teams the best, both will be prepared and ready I know.

Trust me...all of you "east Tennessee Teams" have NO Clue. How many kids do you play first off? We play 11 kids.... We have size....we have rebounding ...well, we have it all. bring your game to us....run with us....slow us down ( TCA Tried as we did only score like 28 in the first half ) but we score 60 in the second half...lol. NOw, get your popcorn, your drink....a good seat and come prepared to see a good team.

We are just glad to be there. I know Hampton will be tough, anyone is tough that makes it to the state final 8. Can Hampton Run ? TCA sure thought they could ! Union City will be tough to handle. We have played tough teams all year and had the Mercy rule on many. Union City has many weapons, more than most teams. If you want to compare Hampton to a Virginia team, then we will compare Union City to a Duke or Kentucky Team. Fan of neither, Union City has the total package and playing at their best and 100% healthy. WE are and will be ready. We will have the best coaches in the tournament by far so you won't out coach us for sure. Our kids go 110% for entire game. Will transition game you to death. You better play more than 6 or 7 players also....once again, ask TCA. Our kids are very classy...very respectful to others. We will bring a crowd. This is a very special team so be ready. We will take one game at a time. The Boro has been good to the Union City teams. Our team also knows what happened in 1960 so that was years ago but will be brought up to our kids. Should be fun....bring your oxygen, you will need a truck load!

Our coach does NOT put up with any of that. Also, NO SHOW BOATING AT ALL or you go on the bench. Team is what the practice and play. Hats off to you guys....intense game for a little but our of schedule games we play to learn and not as much to win, they want to win but our coach picks up off games and plays team as high as 6 A. Union City has never and will never back down from any team so we always go in prepared for every game. We were down 17 points at half time against a Memphis Manasses Team back in I think 2009 in the single A championship game. We came out like tonight in the second half, our coach makes great adjustments and we beat them and went 37 - 0 for the season. Our sports programs ( all ) are the best overall of ANY school, any class West of the Tennessee River....not braggin' just telling the truth. Our football just won back to back and could win it again this year coming up...we will be that good.

Great first half TCA, your Parker player kept you in the game and our Stockdale kept us in the game as he has often this year. Your team hustles ! I like that. Our team hustle, we are use to that. The second half was really what we play day in and day out. Jitters maybe in the first half at home sounds weird but may have been. You team could play in our district and finish year in and year out with the type players you have tonight in the top 3 or 4. Usually it is Union City, Humboldt or Lake County who has it "goin on" that particular year. As I said, not many in the country will out coach our coaches and we made adjustments and the school class started. You really didn't need to get in a running game with Union City. The thing is, I knew that was a plan because your coach sub first and did with three players. Our coach said yall play 8 total. At one time your team was shooting somewhere in the 50-50% range which is a little above normal for a team to come into a visiting gym and do so especially under the "looser leave town " match so to speak. Great game, your crowd was vocal at first and was good. Your team played hard and never gave up. But, when we came out in the second half and made our run, your fans and students, players and coaches were stunned and the look said, where did this come from look ? Oh well...game over. A Thrashing if you will. WE want Mitchell and hope we get the chance.

One thing that has been over looked...by TCA folks. Your schedule (TCA)may be decent but Union City has the upper hand there which is most important. Your team and my team just have to be on their best one game at a time. I would really doubt and put lots of money on that your team has not played as many games with emotion as Union City has had. Union City has played both Lake Co. and Halls both 3 times each. Then Humboldt 4 times. Beaten everyone of those games practically by the mercy rule except for one Humboldt game. Played 2 nationally ranked teams....lost to both...one by a last second shot, the other taken to the woodshed and beaten by a team with 6 players dressed out. Union City has had a bulls eye on their back ALL year. So, not taking anything away from your team and guys at all, we have two MAJOR ADVANTAGES, our coaching/coaches and how our team prepares to get to this point. Just so happens, your team will face ours at the best time for Union City, HITTING ON ALL CYLINDERS . I will make this prediction and you remember what I said. IF, Union City comes out and starts to get a few turnovers, transition baskets with dunks and 3's, it will be a long night for TCA. Our team is human, we have lost a game or two ( 3 ), we will make mistakes as they are kids , but your team will NOT out run our team from one end of the floor to the other. I know you will have a crowd. Yes, our gym is small but lots of history, lots of banners hanging in there. Matter of fact, you will have to walk by all of our gold and silver basketballs in special display cases before you enter Marty Sisco Gymnasium. You might be reminded that you are walking into a class room where lots of teams have been taken to school. I feel it will be a great game and one that Union City will pull away come middle of the 3rd quarter.

This was in today's Jackson Sun and a quote by your coach. You will see the same thing from Union City, trust me. “We hadn’t seen much of the pressure they put on us, and what they do isn’t really comparable to anybody we’d played up to this point,†Northcut said.

We have only played with a full, healthy team since about the second week of January so we are ready. You will beat us at times ( very few but will ) on maybe a back door or a break down somewhere, but we will put a half court defense on you. You will have to play man and if you zone us....well, the threes will rain on you. We were beat by South Side the first game of the season ( ONLY Tennessee team period ) by 5 or 6 with three starts out and not even dressed. Only Humboldt played Union City the closes of ANY single A team ( one out of 4 and we still won by 8 or 10 ) but the other games we blew them out just like everyone else. Mitchell is a Great team and will beat Humboldt as bad as they want. You had Mitchell a little nervous to start playing at your place but the tide will turn on you come Tuesday night. Nothing wrong with confidence in your team as I have in ours. The other two games we have lost were both and still nationally ranked USA Today teams. We will make our mistakes, not perfect at all but we DO NOT TURN BALL OVER.... Average about 5 or 7 per game at most. Our point guard is 6'5"...the other guard is 6'"4. We can score off the dribble also very well I might add. A tornado watch has already been issued for TCA and come Tuesday about 6 pm...a WARNING will replace the watch. My take. For the TCA fans....if you have never been in the Union City Gym......it is rather small...and on top of the players....fans that is. Our students are standing on the out of bounds lines in their cheer section. The place you will have to sit will hold about 100...maybe a few more....Union City fans take up the upper deck...the lower deck on one side and then from the scorers table down past the Union City Bench. It is loud.....compact and a very nice gym with LOTS of history and lots of substate / sectional wins. I already know your team will be fundamentally sound...been told that. They will try to play a slow down game....been told that. Talked to a Mitchell follower who was at the game......good first half....game was over middle of second half. To much speed and size. One thing your team will see that you may not have seen all year...is defense. DEFENSE wins games.....and our pressure will cause you problems. I hope the refs lets the game go because if hey do...you will need more than 8 players. Union City will throw 9 - 12 players at you. Bring your oxygen and should be a great game. The coaches we have...nothing will get by them.....they have won several GOLD and Silver balls. We have two other coaches who are former players ( our head coach is also ) So...bring your purple crew on up, we love purple...we love gold, we love our team and one that maybe other than Mitchell, I can promoise you have not seen at all. Oh, and by the way, you did play Mitchell in your back yard and out of their comfort zone and they still held you to 38 points. INTERESTING!

There is a lot, and I mean a lot of Basketball to be played before a possible match up takes place between Mitchell and Union City. Union City takes their games one at a time. Now with that said, I will take the Union City coaches up against ANY team in the state....Shelby Co. or wherever. They ave 5 Gold balls since the early 1990's. They are getting better every game and have only lost to Nationally Ranked teams other than their first game of the season loosing to Jackson Southside by 6 with tree starters in street clothes. In 2009 when U C won the state we went undefeated, 37 - 0....was down by 17 at the half in the final game against a Memphis team and came back and shocked them. So, I really hate rankings, I wish we weren't even ranked but until Union City gets beat, they are simply the best team in Class A no matter who you say is. GO Tornadoes !!!

Getting to the state tournament goes through Union City.....just remember that. They are to much for just about anyone in west Tennessee. Even though Humboldt played them well, Union City has prepared themselves by playing nationally ranked teams in their off games to get where they are today. They play 12 deep so be ready to be tested on running up and down the floor. Just stating the true facts !

Kids coming up and some former players who didn't come out their 10th or 11th grade year will be coming back as we understand. There is also that "what if" someone moves to Union City for work or other reasons. Added on who will step up from to be 10th and 11th graders will help support the team. There will be NO WAY the Seniors from this years team will be replaced...they will go down as one of if not the greatest and most decorated group of kids in Union City Football History. They have earned enough awards in two years that their necks are wrapped with tons of medals. Should be interesting and fun.

Just saying, Union City will be tough once again come late August 2015. A host of Juniors that have been in two state finals and know how to win will help lead Union City through another successful season next year. They will surprise several teams so do not count them out. They will be hurting a little on the line but with new kids coming into the program, look for Union City to continue to have the bulls eye on their backs until they are beaten and done with. But still enjoying this past GOLD ball and the Back to back seasons. This past season will truly go down in the record books in single A and this team will be remembered by TOTAL dominance !
