  1. I hate to say anything because people think I bash D-B. Maybe. Don't be to distraught over D-B's pass defense, Cody Baugh is a really good QB. Sounded like on the radio that they needed to be disciplined more in the second half. McMillian must have been running his mouth to get tossed. Got to be better composed in a big game where you're in position to take the lead. You can thank the Tri-Cities media for the coaching staff's title of 'best in the state.'

    Yep. Week 2 20-19 in 4 OTs.

Hey swamp! Tell Vic's boys to be easy on the Highlanders...the other Highlanders thumped them good last week. Best of luck to Kingston (a.k.a Roane County). Good luck in the coming weeks. Looks like Fulton, A-E and AC are your main concerns. I know Gibbs beat Rutledge 43-0, but we saw the real Gibbs against Kingston. We'll see. I'd say Kingston hopes to get out in a hurry and try to rest some starters if at all possible. They have some big games coming up. Will Rutledge make the playoffs? It'll be hard after losing to Pigeon.
  4. Daniel Singleton, Ryan Potter and Matt Day of Rutledge. If teams try to guard Singleton only, be prepared for Day and Potter to fill it up.

  6. Clinton will probably stop themselves. I haven't heard recently, but when they hung a banner for 'Most 3's in a game' kinda shows were priorities are. The Dragons have had some great shooters come out of there, but where's the hardware from all the shooting. And I mean the Gold or Silver Ball.
  7. G-P immediately has to be considered a favorite for the 2A crown. Alcoa, Goodpasture, Lipscomb will be stout competition, but who knows for sure. They'll run roughshod in their new region, except for South Greene. That will be a great series.
  8. MBA and Knox Catholic wan't supposed to be close either. Just an observation.
  9. Don't know the particulars, but I do know Powell has a couple of huge ones (300+) and they both have had backs run for over 200 yards in a game...a quarterback (Cloudland's Byrd) and a former quarterback converted to tailback (Powell's Milligan).
  10. From seeing the Bulldogs up close a couple of times, I know that they never quit. Sweetwater just has way too much speed and talent. Cats over the Dogs by 3+ touchdowns.
  11. He was ejected...why? They were already up 21.
  12. Well...I think that West has undoubtedly shook off the Clinton game and gotten back in gear. Not saying it made a difference, but the game was at Clinton. Based on what you saw tonight, I'd say it's a toss-up. West will have to avoid the mistakes that killed D-B and keep their cool. They had 111 yards in penalties and one of their defensive leaders will not play next week against Maryville...little scoop for you Phil. I don't think Cody Baugh will throw for 2 bills against West. Their d-backs are pretty dang good. Not saying that D-B's are garbage. I think anytime a kid throws for 200+ in a game, it's one of three things. A.) The kid is just that good. B.) The opponents don't know how to play defense. C.) A combination of both. I think Baugh is a terrific quarterback and it will be a great matchup of QB's with him and Drew Southerland. After West and Maryville play, we'll all have more of an idea how Greeneville measures up.
  13. Take a knee and be thankful you won.
  14. P.S. You misspelled ALECK again!
  15. Remember, you said it not me. And no I don't pick on Farragut baseball...I don't have time to follow them. I think that Farragut knows that they won't win a baseball crown. BTW...the Times News, channel 11, the Herald Courier and the Press always find a way to sneak D-B in the top five. Notice I never said there was an article in the Tri-Cities that said that 'This is D-B's year.' [Edited by KevB1990 on 9-14-02 11:17P]
  16. No I am not from Science Hill, Middle Tennessee or anything like that. I just get tired of hearing the praises sung over D-B every stinking year and then seeing them choke in the postseason. My remarks hit a nerve? Obviously. It's meant to. And it's smart aleck, not elick. I am an alumni of Rutledge. We've never played you and we will never play you. We're an average/above average 3A team that's in a rebuilding year and we don't have 1,750 or ever how many students to pick from. We never will. Heck, we barely have 1,000 total high school students in Grainger County. I'm just sick to death of hearing 'D-B this' and 'D-B that.' I'd like just once to see the Tri-Cities media vote for someone else. You'll come and say that they should be in the top five after getting wins over Bearden and South and losing in three overtimes to MBA. MBA lost the next week to BGA; barely beat Catholic, whose two wins are against CAK and Lenior City (combined 0-6), and lost to Baylor tonight. MBA's losses are to teams with a combined 6-0 record, which isn't bad at all. Bearden is 0-3 after losing to West and Farragut around the D-B game and South...well do I really have to say anything about South after getting pole-axed by North? Want me to get off D-B's back? WIN A STATE TITLE IN THE MODERN (a.k.a real) ERA!
  17. This game's not on the scoreboard and I can't add it. Cloudland wins 35-14. Mark Byrd runs for 245 on 21 carries and coach Lunsford gets tossed in the third quarter. [Edited by KevB1990 on 9-13-02 11:43P]
  18. Sheesh. I know they're losing to larger schools, but 44-8 to Billy Blount?
  19. 19-10 Greeneville wins...impressive win for the Greene Devils.
  20. Well...I'll lose this game. Greeneville leads 19-10 late in the 4th. Too bad! [Edited by KevB1990 on 9-13-02 9:05P]
  21. Will someone please tell John Brice that Stewart is no different than any other high school player in the US. Everybody signs in February.
  22. Stokomo, I think Betsy should be there and probably will be there, but let's hope for the sake of Walter Brown and B.J. Miller that Big Vince is a little more involved in the flow of the game to make it easier. I know some of the calls he got against him in the Claiborne County game in the Region quarters were questionable, but that was nothing compared to Chase McBee getting mugged twice in a row against Central (with no call) and then McBee getting called for a blocking foul (when he was planted for the charge) in the earlier boy's game. I'm sure Poe doesn't want to play Betsy for the exact reason you stated. The Toppers can only damage themselves with that game, especially if they lose. No matter how good the 'Clones are, AAA teams aren't supposed to lose to AA teams and so on. But I agree, it would be great for the game. [Edited by KevB1990 on 9-12-02 9:47A]
  23. Maryville, Bearden and Oak Ridge are the only teams in region 2 that are worthy of mention here. Farragut basketball is comparable to D-B football...overrated. Sevier County is decent, but not consistently. You hear something good about William Blount when they go above .500. Campbell County is fortunate to have basketball baecause their football team is never good, but the roundballers aren't on the level of Greeneville, Boone or Betsy but like maybe once or twice in a 6-year period. And Besty is AA now. Anyway, when it comes to basketball Region 1-AAA has the upper hand on Region 2. But I'm just one guy with a thought. Who else has a thought?
  24. Seems like Maryville is talking more about West than West is about Maryville. I guess it's because West plays Jeff. County this week and not Heritage. I could find some kids in the hall at East and go to Heritage and win.
  25. I don't know what Synder is thinking...East hammers Volunteer? East should be glad they beat Unicoi, because they won't have another chance for a win until they play Johnson County later on in the season. And trust me, I'm not rooting for Volunteer, but they should win this one, especially after putting the screws to Cherokee.
