  1. Could always go to football classifications, which might be necessary with the proliferation of smaller schools starting new soccer programs...
  2. It was 3-1, and the game wasn't close. Stone Memorial's goal (and only shot) came in the final minutes after Cookeville's JV had been subbed in. I think they'll be competitive against a lot of teams this year, but probably not against the traditional powers in their district. But as the sporting cliche goes, "Games are played on the field, not on [internet message boards]."
  3. Won't Rutherford County have its own district, though?
  4. Is Will Lee still the coach up there?
  5. I saw them in a scrimmage last month, and while they had some skilled players, there was absolutely no depth. In fact, I think they only brought 13 or 14 players to the game. Filling the hole left by Hector's return to Spain is going to be tough. I never got to see Hector play, but he played on my brother's travel team (Chippewas). I heard he was really something.
  6. here's another bracket: Cookeville Father Ryan Franklin Science Hill
  7. Final was 8-1. Might as well state the obvious, but Bearden's good.
  8. CREE, is Cookeville on the list?
  9. Akula, would you be interested in setting up a last-minute preseason match against Cookeville? If so, contact Grant Kelly at cavscoach@charter.net or you can get him pretty much anytime at 931-267-3000.
  10. The upside to this situation is that by not playing White County, teams can schedule an extra non-district game. Instead of a 6-0 cakewalk (which has usually been the case for the district's top teams when they have played WCHS), there's always the option of scheduling a top-rated opponent. That said, I don't think White County was the weakest team in 7-AAA last spring, and with their current coaching staff, they are a program on the rise. If I'm not mistaken, they want to return to a regular district schedule this coming spring.
  11. i think you forgot to add Carrie Bressler from Cookeville
  12. Cookeville has played Baylor, Franklin, Brentwood Academy, Beech, and Dobyns-Bennett, all teams with spots in mjub's top 25. They have a tough schedule, too. Also, I believe they face Oak Ridge today or next week.
  13. Naw, just facts. I kept my "hate bait" to two posts that are on page 3 of this thread. Also fact: Yes, Blackman does have a winning record against CHS (girls and boys).
  14. If I'm not mistaken, Blackman opened up in the '00-'01 school year. In '01, Cookeville defeated Blackman 6-1 in non-district play. The next year, Blackman joined 7-AAA, and CHS defeated them 1-0 during the regular season and 5-0 in the district tournament.
  15. I seem to recall after bowing out to McMinn in the sectionals your sophomore year a standing ovation from all of the Cookeville players and parents for your valiant effort in goal in that match. Harsh treatment? Yeah, there was a disconnect regarding club soccer; your teammates didn't understand why you traveled to play on a Nashville team that really wasn't any better than the team in Cookeville. The harsh treatment didn't start until after you said, "Well, I'm just going to take a year off from soccer," and then subsequently enrolled at another school in the district. You put the Cookeville team in a bind, and your actions affected every player on the team. And that's why people are upset. Regarding Jerry Falwell, I wasn't making fun of him. By saying "Falwell Compound," I was merely referring to the lore regarding the fence that encloses all of Liberty University from the outside world. But I would hesitate to call Falwell an "amazing man" when he has said things like this: "AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals, it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals." I'm done. Sorry for hijacking the thread.
  16. Paul, I'm pretty sure that the commentary regarding Cookeville's loss to Riverdale is innocuous. What's upsetting people is that you are saying it. You may not believe it, but there's still quite a bit of acrimony in Cookeville related to your spineless defection. It's not something people are going to forget, and when you continue to run your mouth, you are just adding more and more fuel to the fire. Allegiances are strong here, and in the Cookeville athletic community, your name is not a respected one. So please, go to the Falwell Compound and have a successful collegiate career, visit and post on the message boards all you want, but don't talk about Cookeville anymore. You generally offend a great number of people when you do.
  17. Individual: Brett Sloan, Cookeville. Perhaps not the best in the state, but certainly deserving of recognition.
  18. The incident was addressed after the game in the post-game chat between the coaches. Those representing the Cookeville program know that, for the most part, the Blackman program is comprised of classy folks, including yourself and your son (who, by the way, had a nice finish last night). The incident at hand just bothered us enough to where we felt that it should be public knowledge. Still, that the captains of each team huddled up for a moment at halftime to try to calm everything down was really impressive. That seems to be rare at any level of soccer.
  19. Normally I would let bygones be bygones, but in this game there was a rather egregious display of poor sportsmanship/lack of class on the part of Blackman's #11, whose name, if i'm not mistaken, is Justin Cronin. Shortly before halftime, Cronin let fly with some ethnic slurs directed at Cookeville's #34, a Bosnian refugee; minus a few choice words, "Go back to Bosnia." Sure, trash talking exists in the sport. But what took place is uncalled for--even FIFA had players recite anti-racism manifestoes prior to World Cup matches last summer. Some sort of action to discourage this sort of behavior in the future would be nice; had the perpetrator been a Cookeville player, well, he would have been booted from the team. What was classy was the meeting of the two teams' captains at the half to resolve the manner through calm discussion and good sportsmanship. Blackman played well, and they won the game by winning 50/50 balls. Hopefully the two squads will face off again in the Region final.
  20. I'd wager that's a common thought around the district. I think White County could have beaten Oakland this year. The improvement in their touch and organization from last year to the present was impressive.
  21. from Cookeville: District MVP Midfielder: Will Putman District MVP Forward: Chris Sloan (shared with Warren County's Tony Garibaldi) 1st Team Brett Sloan Taylor Richardson Adam Sisko Matt Sidrys 2nd Team Sam Liska Dave Matson Max Magura Beco Zekic
  22. Sure enough. 3-2, Lebanon.
  23. Lebanon upends Warren County?
