  1. I believe I have a pretty good grip too. I don't want that one night to define Clayton but at the same time I have in no way embellished what I saw. I don't know what your talking about the umpiring putting his hands on Clayton in an inappropriate way? That is the first I have heard of that from anyone...if it was that inappropriate I would think that Coach Dyer would've done something, don't you? If he punched him or even shoved him I could see your point but neither did anything close to that. It did look like a little contact was made and it looked like Gant initiated the contact (not in a malicious way) while arguing over calls ( he had question a call TWO pitches before from the mound). He was OBVIOUSLY frustrated especially when he paced around the mound while mouthing about calls. I don't know how his parents reacted or how he or his team feels about it. I do know no one else seemed to have a hard time keeping their composure and mouth shut, which lead to no one else on either side being ejected.
  2. 75% of the crowd didn't know why he was ejected for two reasons. 1. It was the tail end of a play so if you weren't looking you didn't see the incident. 2. If you weren't close enough to hear what Gant was saying ( certain words, use your imagination) then you probably wouldn't understand why he was tossed. On another note, your more than welcome to disagree with any call you'd like. I don't think Martinez was out at first on that pick, so I disagreed and the game went on. Yell and gripe from the stands all you want, but unfortunately for you the only opinion that matters is that of the umpire.
  3. What ended up happening? Sounds like Farragut had a chace.
  4. I was actually in the dugout. You may have been looking at a developing play because it happened during a play. Gant being the pitcher with a runner on first already ran in between home and third to wait to see where he would need to back up. The home plate umpire having the call if there were to be a play at third started down the line to third to get in position. Once it was clear there would be no play Gant did get in the umpires face and question the calls as he already had from the mound one time previously. I also said FROM MY ANGLE it looked like Gant made contact but I can't say that definitively. Either way it sounds like you are justifying Gant's behavior. If that is the case your thoughts are null and void, as you are obviously crazy. I'll buy that that is out of character for Gant but do you think it was a coincidence that he got frustrated the same inning he gave up 4 hits and 3 runs?
  5. I would say the umpiring was below average for a high school game. I have been around high school baseball a whole bunch since '99 when I was a freshman and I have never seen either of those umps and I was not impressed by either. The ump behind the plate looked like a hitter's ump and the field umpire looked a little lost. But even if you say the officiating was just ###### poor and went totally against USJ, do you think that really justifies a high school player getting in the face (and from my angle looked like he made contact, nothing major but did look like contact) with an umpire? If you make ANY excuse for that kind of behavior you are just being crazy. Taking it a step further does poor officiating (for both teams) excuse a 10-0 game? You've got to score one to beat your mom, so say what you will but CBHS thoroughly handled USJ tonight and it did answer the question brought up in the preseason whether CBHS could even beat USJ or not.
  6. 10-0 CBHS run rule after 6. CBHS travels up there Tuesday for what I'm sure will be a better game. I would be willing to bet Gant will be on the hill again.
  7. I apologize for the multiple threads, posting from my phone is new to me. 7 to 0 through 5.
  8. cbhs 3 usj 0 through three. Gant gets tossed in the top of the third for getting in the umpires face and arguing over balls and strikes.
  9. ChattCity! Haven't heard from you since you called CBHS Choke artists....how ya been?
  10. It is nice, I agree, but don't get too caught up in one of dozen of high school polls ranking you. If your a top 10 or even just ranked in three or four polls then you've got a special season going. Its fine to be proud, but most people probably don't care. Especially if you don't win the the state championship. People will remember if Farragut ends up being the 2008 AAA TN State Champion, not that they were ranked 8th in one of a dozen polls in the middle of April.
  11. That wasn't really my point, to have teams from West TN discussed more on the baseball boards. I was just stating a fact that it is dominated by people from Jackson to the Eastern border. Actually when I read these posts (Farragut lately but don't want to single them out) it makes me not want to post about my team out of fear of sounding like one of those arrogant jerks. I know CBHS is one of the best programs in the state and gets national recognition on a consistent basis, that is just fine with me. I'd rather sit back and laugh at the people who have to jump up and down screaming everytime their team does something good and make the occasional wise crack at them.
  12. Christian Brothers has been nationally ranked consistently since 1997. Bartlett has been in there the past couple of years. Houston and Collierville have been there and will be again. You don't see too terribly many threads on any of those teams. There could be a couple of reasons for that...I've always thought on CoachT.com Tennessee ran from the eastern border to Jackson, anything West of Jackson is not considered Tenessee. Another thought is we are used to it. When it happens we aren't surprised and when it doesn't we aren't worried about it. I know Bartlett is ranked in a poll right now that CBHS and Farragut are not ranked in. CBHS is ranked in a poll that Farragut and Bartlett are not in. Farragut is in a poll that CBHS and Bartlett are not it. Take high school rankings for what they are worth...not much. There are 50,000+ high school baseball teams to rank, how can you even begin to determine the top 500 or so? By guessing. That is about it. Just don't justify cluttering up the boards with Farragut topics by saying your nationally ranked, if that is the case there are a few more Tennessee teams ( west of Jackson for you folks that go by Coach T borders ) that could have a few topics.
  13. I was wondering about all that, thanks for clearing it up.
  14. I sit and wonder what people are thinking when they make such bold predictions. Are you a jackass in the real world, or just on Coach T and other places you can keep your identity hidden? There is nothing wrong with thinking your team is better than another if thats what helps you sleep at night, but you are just making your team look like a bunch of arrogant a-holes because I don't know who you are so I associate you with the whole team.
  15. The night I saw him I wasn't overly impressed. He was good but not what I had built up in my mind based on what I had heard. Maybe he wasn't having his best outing so I won't make my judgment off that one time seeing him. I'll have to get out and see him again. Any idea when he is pitching again?
  16. Sounds like Farragut has one heckuva team. I know they are always considered on of the top programs in the state and winning is expected (that is how it is where I played, too), but was this great of a year expected? I mean did people close to the program see them putting together a run like this? Just wondering because I didn't hear too much until they were about 15-0. Either way congratulations so far and keep it up!
  17. #1 in their respective class. Not to be confused with #1 in the state regardless of classification.
  18. http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/...sults-april-11/ Gant did pitch.
  19. I don't think many people feel like it meant much. It hasn't been talked about it quite some time.
  20. What is the average field size this kid plays on? Number seems a bit skewed to me.
  21. Calvert lost to Aptos 10-1. I hope Stephen pitches well tomorrow.
  22. http://www.collegiatebaseball.com/polls/hs/currentpollhs.htm New Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll...CBHS and Bartlett still in the top 30. The tournament CBHS is at right now has Orange Lutheran ( #4), Calvert Hall ( #7 previously #1), Jupiter ( #13), and James River ( #14). Experanza and Crespi are also there which very often have nationally ranked teams. What a cupcake schedule CBHS has put together, huh.
  23. CBHS dropped the first game 7-4. From what I understand they played a good team but CBHS did not play that well overall. Handed too many runs over due to walks and a couple of errors. On a brighter note CBHS is going to be in the audience tonight on Jay Leno and he is supposedly going to recognize that they are there.
