  2. No, the fields at all 3 locations in Chattanooga are great. I just think that the games should be moved around to avoid home field advantage. I was talking about the fields for the D2AA quarterfinals (no longer held in Chattanooga).
  3. If Brentwood Academy wins the state championship this year, do you think Ronnie Carter will hand out the trophy? He refused to give it to Coach Flatt last year.
  4. There are many issues with respect to D2 state this year. Adding the D2A classification resulted in TSSAA's decision to have 4 teams from both A and AA go to Chattanooga instead of the traditional 8. This gave 4 teams home games in the state quarterfinals and forced some teams to play under terrible field conditions. It also required that the D2 state championship games be played on a different day than the other 2 classifications. I understand the motivation to provide opportunities for some different programs to make it to state, but if the state wants to add a classification, they should be prepared to host it. I am sure that this means more money for the city of Chattanooga and TSSAA, but it hurts the competition and makes the playing field much less even. We have also recommended the simple CCS/Baylor switch to avoid home field for anyone at state, sometimes common sense is an oxymoron.
  5. New rule this year, coaches are responsible for jewelry, bobby pins, hair clips, etc. Coaches are also responsible for the height of shin guards as well. Yellow card to coach for any uniform or equipment violation. I think that the referees got tired of checking players before games and figured people would police themselves if there were serious consequences attached.
  6. Brentwood Academy @ ECS Saturday 1:00 pm Don't know the schedule for the other 3 games yet.

    Sorry

You are right, no need. I deleted it.
  8. Thank you Dog. Any predictions? We played St. Agnes in the state semis last year and that was the best high school team that I have ever seen. Is the weather going to clear up in time for the games?
  9. Does anyone know the details on the West games tomorrow night? Where and what time?
  10. Here is how it looks for Saturday 10/27, someone from the west said that their bracket will finish Tuesday evening. BGA vs Fr.Ryan @BGA Baylor vs Winner of Hutchison/St.Benedict @Baylor BA vs Loser of ECS/St. Agnes in Memphis GPS vs Winner of ECS/St. Agnes in Memphis I guess the times will be worked out when all of the slots have been filled. 4 winners go to Chattanooga for state, 4 losers are done. I have no idea how they will determine who plays who in the final 4.
  11. Tomorrow's Schedule @ BGA 12:00 Fr. Ryan vs Harpeth Hall (Elimination Game) 2:30 Brentwood Academy vs GPS (#3/#4 sub state seeding) 5:00 BGA vs Baylor (#1/#2 sub state seeding) Can anyone from the West tell us what is going on over there and who #1, #2, and #3 will be?
  12. The reason that this is happening this year is that D2 has been divided into A and AA. 4 teams from each are going to state instead of the 8 that have gone in the past. Here is what is going to happen from here on in AA: District Semis Tuesday 10/16 BA v HH BGA v Fr. Ryan District Championship Thursday 10/18 Middle/East Region Games Saturday 10/20 #1 Middle v #1 East for #1/#2 seeding at sub-state #2 Middle v #2 East for #3/#4 seeding at sub-state #3 Middle v #4 Middle for #8 seeding at sub-state Sub-State Saturday 10/25 #1 Middle/East v #8 above #1 West v #4 Middle/East #2 West v #3 Middle/East #3 West v #2 Middle/East The 4 winners go to state
  13. I don't think anyone sends a player out with the intention of hurting another player. At least I pray that is not the case. I think injury is sometimes a by-product of some people confusing "toughness" and "playing hard" with playing dirty. I have NO problem with a good clean slide tackle, I do have a problem with untrained or lesser skilled players using bad tackling technique to overcome their weakness. Lara was shielding a ball at the edge of the opponents box and hit from directly behind (no ball). Sarah was sprinting down the sideline to complete a 1-2 combination and the ball was 5 yds away from her (she was tackled to prevent her progress).
  14. From a coach's perspective, these girls were injured on 2 bad tackles. I do not think it is a coincidence that these fouls seem to occur more often on the more talented players on the field. In club play, good tackling is taught and seems to be the rule. In high school, it seems that bad tackling is used as a means of intimidation or to make up for a lack of skill. I understand that this is a physical game, the 2 injured girls were probably our most physical players. I understand and agree with most of your points. I also think that to deny that some teams use hard fouling or bad tackling as a tactic against other teams' best players is a little naive. The question is how to prevent that strategy and the injuries associated with it.
  15. We have lost our top 2 scorers to bad slide tackles in our last 2 games. Both were fouls. Both were yellow cards. The first was a slide tackle from behind and the second was a very dirty slide tackle on a player that had taken 4 steps after passing the ball. The player that committed the foul jumped up laughing and was congratulated by her teammates as our girl lay screaming in pain. I wonder if the slide tackle in high school should go the way of the crack back in football or the collision with the catcher in baseball. I never thought that I would have this opinion, but when high school referees "let the girls play", too many promising careers are threatened or ended. Thoughts anyone?
  16. BA JV Scores BA 1 Collierville 0 BA 3 Fr. Ryan 1
  17. Thank you for your kindness. She is strong, she is fit, and she is an incredibly hard worker. She will be back better and stronger than ever.
  18. BA senior forward Lara Langworthy tore her ACL and meniscus Sunday afternoon against Collierville. BA was up 1-0 at the time and pressing for a second goal. Lara has been an outstanding player at BA and for Brentwood Real Madrid, an ODP National Pool Player, and is a UT Lady Vol commitment. She is an outstanding leader and loved by her teammates. The Lady Eagle captain will be missed for her leadership, skill, and personality. The BA family has her in our prayers and please join us in wishing her a speedy recovery.
  19. Franklin and Brentwood are both very good teams and their game should be a great one. I watched both games yesterday and the teams looked tired. 3 games in 3 days against good teams in 90+ degrees. I don't have a dog in this hunt, but Brentwood is much better than they looked against ND. There is a lot of quality there but a couple of mental mistakes cost them. They hit the crossbar and the right post and just couldn't get going. Franklin played a lot of young players and looked better than they did against Ravenwood last week. Nice header finish off a corner kick and they were never really threatened in the game. There is some great soccer being played in Williamson County again this year. 4 of mjuhbs top 8 overall are within about 8 miles of one another!
  20. Brentwood Academy JV 5 JPII JV 0
  21. Thanks for the help though H2O...I might have gone to coach at the wrong place. Seriously though, mjuhb, are we going to see you any time soon? Tuesday night maybe?
  22. JPII had beaten Fr. Ryan and Ravenwood. Are we that good? I guess time and results will answer that question. Our next game is at home Saturday at 6:00 against Dunbar HS from Lexington, KY.
