  1. Laura Swallows from Cumb. Co High School is playing for Tennessee Wesleyan. She is playing great defense and does not sub out much! Great Job Laura! Also, Abigail Williams from Cumberland County (played club in Knoxville) is a sophomore at Union College. She is a huge threat on the offense. You go girls!
  2. I keep seeing all these high school teams who have alot of club players. What ever happened to girls playing basketball in the winter and running track in the spring? Options? I live about 45-60 minutes from the big city. So many girls cannot afford or do not have transportation to travel out of town for training/competition. We have our short season. The girls have to give up so much when you live in a town away from club... Living in a big soccer community has many blessings. I hope those girls are thankful. What is the percentage of West/ Middle/ and East TN high school teams with club players? What about your school? %
  3. The officiating is never as bad as posters on here claim??? When the opposing coach apologizes to the other teams coach and says "we didn't deserve this win" , there is something pretty wrong going on. So, the lesson to be learned.. Soccer is not a fair game because referees are not perfect. How you deal with unfairness is a true testiment to your character.
  4. McMinn JV 1 Cumberland Co JV 1
  5. If you are referring to a poorly executed slide tackle outside the box... I know what you are talking about. That was not good at all. At least the defender didn't come from behind! They are learning. 80% of the JV team just learned what receiving means! Great job to Powell JV for dominating the virgin Cumberland County JV... With McMinn, I am talking about tripping a forward in the box on a break-away with no call????, a slide tackle from behind on the defense and converting it into a goal.... and a beautiful sheild by the defense which turned into a choke hold by the forward resulting in a pk for the offense. Absolutely CRAZY! Cumberland JV 1 McMinn JV 1
  6. Cumberland County 1 McMinn Co. 2 ..the "spirit" of the game was lost due to physical play. The motto of the day: If you cannot beat them, foul them. Very disheartening.
  7. Class AAA District 5-AAA- McMinn County has finished first in the district, with the exception of last year, since 1997. Cleveland and McMinn County will meet in mid-september and it could be one of the best games of the year. Predicted Order of Finish- 1. Cleveland 2. McMinn County 3. Bradley Central 4. Cumberland Co. 5. Walker Valley 6. Rhea Co. Cumberland Co. split the high school last year, which put a huge damper on the roster (14 players!). This year, lots of new young talent has come on to the team... Last year CCHS lost to McMinn 0-1 in the last 5 or 6 minutes with 14 girls. There are 4 new girls who are going to have unbelievable high school careers...Cannot wait to do some damage to the predictions!
  8. There are a few strong freshmen from Cumberland County. Victoria Ports, who comes from a long line of strong soccer blood (her dad played somewhere overseas..brother kicking for D1 team with soccer being his strongest sport)...creative in the middle with a great left and right shot from outside the 18. Ellie Jo Krumpols is another extremely talented forward..speed and ball control are her strengths. Rebecca Kennedy has a knack for winning the ball and making great things happen. Exciting new talent in Crossville.
  9. Cumberland County has hit and miss days. We usually play better against strong teams and throw away games to the weeker teams. Hopefully these boys will get some good game experience against some great teams! Its going to be a great tourn. just because its SOCCER!
  10. Anthony Moore from Stone Memorial is an incredible midfielder. Hes about 6'2" and he is FAST and STRONG. He has a rocket of a shot and can win and settle the ball out of pressure beautifully...then distribute productively! Great athlete. Also, Sammy Fuentes has phenom. ball skills and has a nose for the goal.
  11. Please! Now that I know the game doesn't have to start unless two referees are there, an educated decision can be made. Are you crazy? Win, loss, tie. This is sooo beside the point. The referees are suppose to be there to try and enforce the laws of the game and for the safety of the players. Safety and rules. I am not posting because we lost. Acusations about being a poor sport after the fact...I will consider the source ..."Rotten Egg" Holy Goodness! Your positive energy is killing me.
  12. CCHS stands for Cumberland County High School.......We played Bradley Central in Cleveland ... Apparently the same situations are occuring in other parts of the state. I wanted to know what to do about situations where only one ref shows up and what we can do about it. I got an answer which was "you do not have to start a game without 2 ref." Same thing happened last night where one ref showed up. We DID NOT start the game until the other ref showed up. Apparently, the late ref could not get off work in time...... Ended up, 150 spectators and players/coaches waited for one late ref. That stunk! Some had to leave early to go to the Lady Vols BB Nat. Championship Game and missed half the soccer game. Life is not fair. Soccer is not fair. Referees are not fair. They are human and make lots of mistakes...Scheduling is black and white...punctual or late.

    5AAA

What are the stats for these schools? How is Cleveland doing? McMinn? Walker Valley? Bradley? Who are the dominate players offensively, defensively, and keepers?
  14. [Also, in TSSAA you never add time to a game; you stop the clock for certain events like goals, injuries or cards but you never play for more than the 40 minutes. I did not realize a TSSAA ref does not add time...they have stoppage time. Apparently, the ref never stopped the clock when 2 diff. injuries occured because the first half was 40...so 36-37 minutes of actual game time. Also, Only one ref and NO clublinesmen. I better get over this game...no need to vent anymore. Life is not fair and soccer is never fair! So, we move on and do our best.
  15. Does anyone know the rules through TSSAA about district matches and the referees? Tonight, we played 2 hours away and the assigned ref's went to the wrong school. Well, one HOUR after the game was to start, a ref showed up and started the game. 20 minutes later, another ref shows up to finish the half with a two-man system.. blowing the whistle early after a 3-4 min. injury time NOT ADDED. Then the other team, who represented there school poorly, persistantly took cheap shots to the opponents on almost every 50/50 ball...only to get "Direct kicks". I think 4 cards were given in the last 10-15 minutes of the game....one for wasting time, the others physically earned...But by this time, our team had been literally beaten up. I walked out of there feeling like "the spirit of the game" is gone! What happened to real soccer, great moves, beautiful vision....... Knock the crap out of the opponent repeatedly and still have the privilage of playing? This really stinks! Sooo disappionted........
  16. Cool. I feel like many games are won in the midfield. I know it starts with the defense and you have to work it up, but if a team can dominate in teh mid, they usually come out on top. What do you think?
  17. That one lone sweeper just gives the reassurance many defenders like on a sweep/stopper. I think alot of boys grasp the diamond in the back and do not want to change to a flat back. Personally, I love a 4-4-2. We are in a situation where a 4-3-3 is working, but only half the time. I see a big gap in the midfield when this is used. On a huge 130 by 75 field, I don't see why coaches play a 4-3-3..can't take care of the middle., unless you have lots of communication and that stopper fills the hole. Any Brazillian diamonds out there and how do you teach this?
  18. McMinn seems to have a young team...a couple of boys (#9 lefty and #11) have great ball skills... Cumberland County lost to McMinn in the last 10 min. of the game on Tues. Score 1-0.
  19. I was wondering what formation different teams are using??? Does anyone use the Brazilian diamond up front?
  20. [ but from what i saw last year, if they pulled the right kids, they can beat a kingston and definetly a scott county.} ...Pulled the right kids??? With the BOE active in strict zoning, no kids can be "pulled". However, they can move.....
  21. Cumberland County High school did not "combine " with another school.....We SPLIT into two schools. Now there is CCHS and SMHS (Stone Memorial). CCHS dropped in population by about half. CCHS will continue to play 5AAA schools for 3 years. Stone has almost the same population as CCHS and play in A/AA bracket. So, the effects of cutting CCHS in half and playing the same 5AAA schools will prove to be difficult. If CCHS would not have split, the 5AAA districts would have been a breeze......Yep! Crossville, Tennesse has talent and we don't even have to go to the city to get it!?!*# Stone has an amazing coach from Norway (Geir Bergvin) who has worked with a group of 91 boys for about 4 years. These boys are freshman and sophomores. Three of the boys are playing for CCHS and 10 of the boys are at Stone. Stone is young, diciplined, and they are smart. I expect great things to happen for this team..... These boys will only get stronger! Only wish the strict zoning didn't leave the other three boys and the "Patrick Weavers" at CCHS.... then we could have easily fielded 11 boys together who would make some private school boys sweat in A/AA. Also, no girls were pulled from Clarkrange to play Soccer. One girl left Crossville to play basketball in Clarkrange her freshman year and came back to play her junior year. Then decided to play soccer at Stone.
  22. [ ( Some of the great soccer players in Tennessee play defender. Let's hear who the real soccer players at defense are????) Cumberland County has a strong defender.. Kelli Harris. She is a senior with a lot of speed and strength. Her ability to play "fair" without man handling or maming someone speeks highly of her ability and ethics. She has recorded several saves this season on lone breakaways.
  23. I have been involved with refereeing and coaching long enough to know that 22 players on the field, staying even with the second last defender, and trying to catch a first foul is impossible for one... hard for two.... and "kind of" attainable for three. When I heard negative remarks about my then 13 year old son and his Rec. league refereeing ability.... I finally realized that mistakes WILL be made. The only thing I have control over is myself and how I deal with these mistakes! When the players and the coach go into a match and realize that mistakes will happen, the team is more prepared to shake it off and stay focused on the rest of the game. I would love to have 3 referees per game so they could do a better job. The shortage of refs in TN, in my opinion, is because too many coaches, players, and spectators have never made a bad call... ...By the way, my son is now almost 16 and he loves money and the game more than he hates the negativity.
  24. We have a great keeper in Cumberland County... Heather Smith. She is a state ranked catcher for softball and this is her second season playing soccer. She had a great game against Cookeville in pre-season, with Cumberland County losing 1-2. Heather had 7or8 incredible saves. She is a senior who has amazing athletic ability in the goal!
  25. Cumberland County traveled to Rockwood on Tuesday and came back with the first win of the season. With a final score of 3-0, several Lady Jets stepped up to control the field. CCHS had 20 shots on goal compared to 4 shots by Rockwood. We will play a tough Kingston on Thursday. Great Job Cumberland County!
