  1. Best quote I heard tonight was a Coach Morris response to a question regarding CPA. He said, "We may go and get embarrassed again but one thing about it, you can't beat'm if you don't play'm."

  3. Milan had the ball for a little over 30 min. to a little over 16 min. For CPA
  4. My suggestion may not be the, be all to end all, but Maryville would probably end up with more competition if some of the better 3,4,&5A teams had to move up after a few years. Never the less, my suggestion seems to make more sense to solve the majority of the problem than a lot of the other suggestions I've seen. And, It is a lot less complicated than most. Nothing is going to completely level the playing field, but my suggestion goes a long way towards doing so.
  5. I suggest maybe a different approach to even the playing field. Don't worry so much about open zoning, tuition etc. If a school wins a state championship in any sport say, 2 out of 3 years. That school has proven they are ahead of the other programs in the state in that classification for whatever reason. The next 3 years they step up a division in that sport and play there for the next 3 years. For example, if you win the 2A state football championship 2 out of the next 3 years, then you move up to 3A in playoffs for the next 3 years. I would think this would make the games more meaningful and competitive for even the school which has to move up. After you win something several years in a row, winning the gold ball don't really mean as much. Sort of like a middle weight boxer, after he has beaten all his main competition in his weight class, a lot of the time they move up in weight class to take on more difficult and challenging competition. The TSSAA already reviews the classifications every couple years anyway, just include this in the classification consideration.
  6. Congradulations to Toney. He deserved more recognition. I still think is a shame that kids from both sides got little recognition this year. I aslo think it is a shame that they won't be playing together at UT. Go Dogs!
  7. Check This Video out, Alcoa locker room at halftime. http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/5767507
  8. Just thought about the name of the field Milan/Alcoa will be playing on. "Tucker Field" Interesting.
  9. f5seekshelter, I haven't known any around here who don't respect Alcoa. I have not seen posts from people who have played Milan in West Tennessee say anything about how some other team in West Tennessee would beat Alcoa or this and that like I have seen from the East regarding Milan. Most teams in East Tennessee would not have any more chance of beating Milan than they would at beating Alcoa. Most of the posts I read from this area talk about how it will take a perfect game from Milan to have a chance to beat Alcoa. So there is no disrespect from most of the Milan fans towards Alcoa and all their achievements. Its just, Milan being in the championship game is no fluke or have anything to do with a weaker bracket or any of that other junk. They are in the game because they are a good team.
  10. Ok, I can appreciate that. Friday, we may get to see if any Alcoa people say Milan is the best team period. Hope So. It will be interesting to read the comments.
  11. Ok, I understand. So if Milan happens to beat Alcoa Friday, then there will be no comments similar to the ones we have been seeing from the other east Tennessee foes. None about Aloca's execution. If Milan happens to beat Alcoa then Milan is the better team period, right?
  12. f5seekshelter, I agree, I thought Alcoa was the better team last year. I thought it before we played the game and after. But, I believed if we executed like we should, If we ran the plays that got us there, we would have had a good chance of beating Alcoa even though they were the better team. My point is I don't know what lame excuses the other person was referring to cause I haven't heard any. Everyone knows who won. It's hard to argue that. Its easy get on here and say they heard lame excuses, I would just like to know what they heard because to date I have not heard any.
  13. I don't know what lame excuses you are talking about. I personally didn't think there was an excuse for how we played last year. We should have played better. Aloca was good, but there was no excuse for us not executing better. I haven't heard any of the kids that will be on the field or any of the coaches making excuses for last year. I think they were all disappointed with their performance and did not make excuses for it. They made it their goal to get back there again this year and prove that they are a better team than that.
  14. Paintedbridge, Ms. Johnnie had more spunk and drive in her 5' 3" frame than most men in this world. The stadium is named after her because she started the football program at Milan High School. She would occassionally come back and teach after she retired and I had the fortune to be in a couple of classes she taught. A great woman and educator, who could teach most people a thing or two about winning and being a winner.
  15. I believe there is one area which most of us on both sides have in common. We are pretty rabid Vol fans. I suspect there are alot on both sides that don't understand why several of the players on both sides of the ball are not recruited by UT. Just look how hard each plays for their respective home schools. I would think that UT would want some of our home grown talent. It is a shame that players from Milan and Alcoa have to leave the state to play on the same team at the next level. I personally believe they would play harder than out of state players and be less likely to get into trouble. In the past there have been several players from Milan that have been fairly successful at UT. Yet it seems as though they are hardly ever recruited by UT anymore. Just wonder what is the sentiment in K'town's back yard. Do you think things will be different with Kiff. at the helm?
  16. "Being a tuition student at Alcoa isn't as easy as walking in the door and saying that you want to go to school there, either, which I think is the perception many people have. It's a "Milan thing", I knew I wouldn't understand! I stand by my statement: we're not so different, you & I. Hope to see a good game on Friday; we haven't had one in the championship since 2004. Alcoa may not be able to wear Milan down because of few players playing both ways, but I don't think Milan has come across O- and D-lines like Alcoa has this year. These are the best lines we've had in years. Alcoa wins this by 20." I was not trying to dispute your statement. All I was trying to point out is that a lot of all of this is perception from both sides. Just because you found a rule listed on a web page does not mean you have researched something. I admitted that I did not know about out of district in relation to Alcoa, I said it was perception brought about in part because of your own success. Just like your perception that because you have won it 5 strait means you will win it the 6th time; we have a perception regarding last year that because of our performance in the first half we let a game get away from us that we could have won. So you perceive that you have not had a good championship game since 2004, we perceive it differently. The truth is probably somewhere in between. Your team may not be as good as you think and ours may be better than you think, the truth is they are probably both pretty good. You are right, we are sure we haven't seen an offense or defense as good as Alcoa this year, hands down. I feel confident that you will be happy this Friday because there will be a good competitive game. Good Luck and Go Dogs!
  17. Regarding out of distrct, I don't know about Alcoa but I believe Milan's situation is a little more complicated than the policy referred to previously indicates. Milan is in a county of less than 50,000 with 7 special school districts. It has been complicated by lawsuits filed by various districts in the area to prevent flight from their district. So depending on which district the student is coming from they may have to get permission from the other district before they can move to your district. You would have to spend some time here to understand just how complicated and difficult the whole process can be. I think some of the sentiment you hear about regarding the perceived advantage you have in Alcoa stems partly from the abnormal amount of success you have had, partly from the perception that you have a huge population base to "recruit" from being a suburb of knoxville, Anyway I will be at the game Friday because I know we have a chance. It is not the first time that we have not been favored to win. In fact I don't recall us ever being favored to win the state. And as unimpressive as it may sound we have won it 4 times previously. Go Dogs!
  18. I very rarely post, just love to get online and read. I do have a couple comments for my fellow Milan fans. For those of us born and raised in Milan it has always been about the walk and not about the talk. It is better to be humble. I remember in 1977, hardly anyone in the state thought we had a chance against Maryville, not even most people in Milan, but all that changed in a period of about 4 1/2 minutes. Point being anyone can beat anyone on any given nite. Now, being a Milan fan I believe we will win this Friday because I believe we probably have more speed and experience and are peaking at the right moment in time. Don't know what the score will be, I will be happy with a win. Good luck to both teams, love highschool ball. Hope everyone on both sides of the ball leave feeling like the winners they all are.
  19. There are several schools in west tn that would love to take coach sharp off your hands. Good luck to lc and coach sharp from fans in west tn
