  1. Thank you MilanDog9. Sorry you can't be here to witness the sea of purple and black or blue or white (I don't know what we will be wearing). We have an informant at JCS because all the Milan fans showed up with umbrellas because they heard about our black "storm" warning. (Our coaches were calling for us all to wear black). It was hilarious. I'm sure the JCS coaches will have something else for us to wear next week to pump the boys up and I'm sure Milan will find out and respond. Things like that are what makes Friday Nights so special. Again, I'm sorry you can't be there but hopefully you can hear it online. Thank you for serving our Great Country and God Bless you too!
  2. What stinks is that some boys who are seniors and serious about football are going to go home prematurely because of this system---while one team, that could probably care less will have to lay aside their Nikes for one more week and keep playing football. I know that all but one team eventually goes home but when you've survived a tough road like Milan you've earned the right to play the TRUE lowest seed in the Quadrant--- the 3-7 or 4-6 team.... I know JCS is a wildcard but they are the only one with a 7-3 record and they would be a top 3 seed in at least 6 of the 9 regions. I think they deserve to be a higher seed (although according to the system they are where they need to be...). No matter what they would be playing a higher seeded team but not the number one seed. Anyway that is the end of my belly-aching. It is what it is. It is JCS traveling to Milan next Friday night and there is nothing any of us can do about it. Just like the BCS... Most people are unhappy with it but it is still the system and you have no choice but to go out and play the game. So here is to mistake free, well-executed, injury-free, no regrets football next Friday night for Milan and JCS. (Westview and Peabody too) So get your umbrellas out Bulldogs the Eagles are coming (Ha!). GO EAGLES!
  3. All I know is that this 2-A thing has been fun. Exciting games every week. Great Region! But right about now I sure would like to be preparing for the JCS-Union City game instead of the JCS-Milan game. (No offence to Union City that is just who we would be playing if we were still 1-A) Seeding by records wouldn't have been much of an improvement for the Eagles after what Peabody did to us two weeks ago. JCS-Milan; JCS-Peabody... Pick your poison. 8-2A rules and it is an honor to be a part of it. Hopefully, one of us will get to the Boro... Whoever the last one standing is will get the Eagles full support. I'm proud of the JCS Eagles. With the exception of one game they have been more than competitive and had a successful first year in 2-A. I also know that they will give everything they got next week and that is all you can ask for...
  4. Great Game tonight Milan. Our game (JCS) was over at 8:30 because of the running clock... So I listened to the Westview broadcast in last of 3rd and Milan in the 4th on the way home. Sounds like another classic. This is the big shaft for 8-2A. I was doing the math before and I'm trying to figure out how Marion County got in ahead of Humboldt. Sweetwater was the only 5-5 team with a victory over a 500 team. The next tiebreaker was supposed to be records of opponents---Humboldt won that one hands down... (To be honest I wanted Humboldt in so we could be seeded 7th and play Carver instead of Milan) I must have missed something. Anyway just another way our Region got the shaft... We'll see you next week. Can't say I'm looking forward to it...
  5. 'Great fans @ JCS! If you & your son like to duck hunt then let me know & we'll go one morning.' Well, I'm not much of a hunter but Isaac loves it and I've been trying to take it up for that reason. I do know the Duck Commander. I did a leadership workshop at his church in Louisiana and ate dinner at his house. That was a trip. Isaac was in awe of him, he'd never seen a real life "Jeremiah Johnson" before. The Duck Commander gave him everyone of his DVD''s and videos. A couple of summer's ago the Duck Commander was going to let Isaac work for him but we moved from Florida to Tennessee that summer. We decided he needed to hook up with friends from his new school and that is when he started playing football for the first time. Pretty good first year of football---State Championship... Baseball has always been Isaac's main sport. I think football has at least tied baseball now. Pretty good baseball season too---State Runner-Up... The only problem with the Duck Commander is that he is a LSU fan even though he was the starting quarterback at La. Tech in front of Terry Bradshaw. We'll hook up somehow... Sounds like Matt plays baseball too... Good luck in your last game, hope you get a wildcard... Again, great post... Thanks for sharing your heart and keeping all this in perspective. I'm having a very hard time dealing with the fact that we are down to one last regular season football game. It's a fun ride as a father. No greater joy than seeing your son play ball and it goes by way to fast... It seems like yesterday we were starting coach pitch baseball... Now he is in his senior year... Those of you with younger children. Savor every moment. Don't waste it fretting and pressuring your child. Enjoy it! It's gone before you know it and you don't want to have regrets. Make it a privilege and good memory for your children not a drudgery!
  6. Like I said---Joined at the hip... No breathing room... Great stop...
  7. From what I've seen JCS is a lock to get a wildcard win or lose. Only 4 of the 16 teams fighting for spots have winning records. Plus their Difficulty of Schedule is in everyone's top 15. The 2-A system is starting to grow on me. It is becoming obvious that the 4th seed is very weak in most regions---(3-7) (4-6) records... The wildcard system rewards those who have played well and have the better record. Plus every regular season game means something. Also it is possible that 4 of the 5 teams will come from our region and Alcoa's region. Humboldt is a long shot but it is possible. In spite of all that I don't think we want to back into the playoffs with a loss. I believe the boys will respond great. They have too much pride and the offense still feels like they have not played their best game yet. Our coaches will have them pumped and ready to play. I think they will ride into playoffs with the Peabody game wiped from their memory banks. (except for the desire to make sure that doesn't happen again.) Does anyone have an injury report? Ethan? Edward? What about Will Johnson and Dallas McCarver? Any chance they can return for playoffs?
  8. Viking Fan 14 I've not been able to get over the display of sportsmanship and just total heart and soul that your son gives when he is playing. Now, I know what is behind it. He has come through the refining process as gold thanks to God and a father who loves him. My son was number 88 for JCS. They were attached at the hips the whole game. Every pass that was thrown to my son your son was there. What impressed me the most was how they seemed to develop a friendship on the field. They picked each other up. Hi-fived each other. I was watching the video and on a few plays your son left coverage to make a key hit on someone else or break to the ball. (He was in on every big play in the game it seemed) After the play they would walk past each other and hi-five on the way to their huddles. I had never seen anything like it. He was fierce, competitive, and respectful to his teammates and his opponent. I asked my son about it after the game: He said he was a really good and he was cool too. (My son doesn't give out compliments freely) Evidently they would also tell each other "good play" after every play. What a great person. Now, I know how he has become such a great man. Anyway I had already left a message for you on another thread, I don't remember which one...We live in Three Way maybe you-me and the boys can hook up for some golf or fishing sometime... You've done a great job... Without a doubt your son would get the vote of all the JCS fans as the one player whose sportsmanship and heart stood out from all others we've played this year. (And we've played a lot of fine young men--this has been the best year for sportsmanship---at least in our region- I've ever seen) God Bless You and thanks for sharing your heart. It is something we all needed to hear.
  9. VikingFan14 I've been wanting to tell you that you are a class act and so is your son. My son was number 88 on JCS and as gocart said after that game "we enjoyed watching the sportsmanship the two displayed toward one another all night." I've watched the tape since the game and your boy didn't just play well against my son. He was in on every big defensive play of the game. In fact on one play he came up and made a stop and then my son and yours hi-fived each other on the way back to their huddles. That's what football is all about. Great heart and effort. We live in Three Way maybe our sons can get together sometime off the field. God Bless.
  10. Peabody is a great team that executed their gameplan flawlessly. Kendall Harper is the best player in the region without a doubt and deserving of Mr. Football consideration. He's the best player I've seen in years. Fast. Smart. Their line is solid. I think it was 34 or 31 that was a beast on defense. He batted down 2 or 3 passes. If Peabody plays like tonight they can beat just about anybody. As for the comment above I guess our little boys wuz jus lucky to be 6-2 coming into the game. I guess they've just been in the Twilight Zone for the last 8 weeks. Thank you for reminding us of the difference between 1-A and 2-A. I guess that was the point of the evening, the reason Peabody would risk injury to their franchise player when the game was long decided and have him heave a 26 yard touchdown pass just to make sure that JCS was reminded of the DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 1-A AND 2-A. What's the point of a stupid comment like that 9 weeks into the season? The way Peabody played tonight they could have beaten most 3, 4 and 5 A schools. JCS makes no excuses... Tonight wasn't about the difference between 1-A and 2-A. Two teams, two proven good 2-A teams, lined up and played a game: Peabody and JCS. On this night Peabody kicked JCS' tail. Period. That should suffice. (The difference between 1-A and 2-A argument went out the door after the first region game against Westview) Besides that I've never understood that argument. It sounds like JCS chose to go into 2-A and came in all cocky or something. Which they've never done.
  11. Looking at the stats from last night, I say this team looks frightening... Quarterback who is a triple-threat and a great running back... I've had this date circled all year... There was a guy from Lake County named Springer (I believe he was the best quarterback--not athlete--quarterback we faced last year) that gave us fits in the playoffs... Harper sounds a lot like him... only better... I'd feel more confident if I knew Ethan was going to be at his linebacker position... But I know our coaches will have a great game plan and take all that into consideration... Isn't it great to be playing for that third playoff position after all the question marks at the beginning of the season?
  12. Great Report JaxMan... Obviously you are so excited that your fingers are sticking on the wrong buttons... (Isaac Grizzell not Issac Grissell---lol) Have you guys seen the video on the Jackson Sun website? It's really good... Did Matt Hudson step up or what? Of course, no telling what kind of numbers he would have without all the dropped passes this year... But last night, everyone was stellar!!! Some incredible catches--- Isaac---Tanner's second touchdown---Taggart's catch off the deflection... Matt and Zach running the ball... Great night! Not all good news though.... Has anyone heard updates on Ethan and Digger? Harper and the Golden Tide are coming. It looks like they ran the yards up on Milan. Scary!!! GO EAGLES!!! FOR THE THREE!!!
  13. Ahhhh.... There is a nip in the air... It is football weather today boys! Go Eagles!
  14. GO CART- 4:26 A.M.--- JAXMAN- 5:07 A.M.--- Boy you guys sure are up early... or is it sleepless nights? I just want to add my GO EAGLES! I'm proud of the coaches and boys and expect to see another huge crowd. I wish the game wasn't during our Fall Break. I know we will have a few missing for family trips but hopefully not too many. I wouldn't miss it for the world! You can have the beach and the mountains, it's football time in West Tennessee!!! The boys seem to be over the Milan loss and focused! It'll be a good un...
  15. THAT'S MY BEST OKLAHOMA STATE COACH IMPERSONATION!
  16. SURREAL BOWL PART 2 I thought the Trinity game was weird. We took "weirdness" to a new level last night. Surely, our offense will have a breakout game sometime during the course of the season. One complete game would be awesome. I never thought it would be possible for us to be 5-1 without our offense clicking on all cylinders in any game. We've had moments and I would say our offense has played two good quarters in a game but not three or four yet... But, no one knows this like the young men on the offensive side of the ball. What I like about this bunch is that they beat Humboldt 27-13 and the offensive players were thanking the defense and very unsatisfied with their performance. Some game they are going to put it all together because they have the heart to do it. In fact to look at our receivers after the game you would have thought that we lost the game. They will just get more and more focused. What can you say about our defense. Just like last year they started the season rusty then almost without notice became a dominant group. Our offensive coaches are great but maybe it is time to credit Coach Stew, Coach Keller, and Coach Cooper for their ability to coach defense... To take an undersized, outmanned, slower group of 11 men and make them into a machine. To be on the field for the entire fourth quarter against a line averaging 280 pounds and not be worn down, fight to the very end and then form a stonewall inside the 10 in the last moments of the game. AWESOME JOB COACHES!!! YOU ARE INCREDIBLE!!! Now, one thing I have to get off my chest. I'm probably through sitting in the stands. I can't take the "Idiots", I know it isn't Christ-like to say that but forgive me... Okay, I'll change the word "morons" in the stands two rows behind me bad mouthing our coaches and our players. Pooling their ignorance by making play suggestions that were comical---except they appeared serious... NEWS-FLASH!!! We are 5-1 and most people thought we would be 2-4 or worse at this point! We are playing 2-A ball!!! Not 1-A! Oh, and did I say we are 5-1? We could end up 5-5 but I can't take people making comments like: "Send our defense into play for the offense!" Especially when the offense has over 300 yards! Obviously these "morons" don't have any kids on the field! They are 15, 16, 17 year old boys... Boys... They may look like men but they are boys!!! They aren't pros!!! No one is more upset about a dropped ball than the boy that dropped it... No one is more upset about an interception than the boy that threw it... No one is more upset about a fumble than the boy that dropped it! "Classless, moronic idiots!" Shut your mouths! If you can't spur the team on and encourage them then shut-up! You don't reflect what JCS is all about! 99.9% of our fans are awesome!!! The blue sea was incredible but this small 'rabble' has got to go! There is nothing worse than a bunch of 40-year old 'wanta-be' coaches and players screaming out their ignorance at a bunch of 16-year old boys and the best team of high school coaches ever assembled! Our coaches are more concerned about building men than football players. Every practice those young men go through is like a spiritual revival. These young men are being molded into warriors for God. The coaches keep football secondary. It's time for the men in the bleachers to do the same... Oh, and our coaches are pretty dog-gone good at coaching football too. I'm sorry for that outburst but it was unbelievable and I think I was Christ-like. He did call the Pharisees "brood of vipers" and "hyprocrites!" I'm just following in His footsteps! GO EAGLES!!! FOR GOD! FOR TEAM! FOR EXCELLENCE!
  17. Incredible crowd last night. Felt like the Mt. Pleasant game last year. The game? SURREAL is the best word I could think of.... It was just a weird game from kickoff on... It just intensified in the 2nd half with all the injuries. Don't laugh at me but I wonder if the moon didn't have something to do with that... Injuries all over West Tennessee last night. It looked like every game had a weird feel to it... But the Eagles found a way to win again. The spirit of this team is incredible. I hope that our boys play to their potential on offense some time this year. I feel it is coming. You've got to feel great about being 4-1 against the competition we've faced without putting together a solid half, much less a solid game offensively. Hats off to the defense and the line. You guys were awesome last night!!! I heard that Ben Cooper had 16 tackles! 16! Go Eagles!
  18. Is there an actual system for coming up with the "at-large" teams? If so, is it available to the general public? If so, what is it or where can an explanation be found? This whole system bites... I don't understand how two new teams caused this craziness. Why didn't they just add the teams to existing regions?
  19. PASSING---HUDSON TO GRIZZELL---HUDSON TO PERKINS---HUDSON TO TAYLOR---HUDSON TO PRESLEY RUSHING---HUDSON---TAYLOR---TAGGART---WHITE... These are the weapons... JCS hasn't even put together a solid quarter yet... but they have the weapons and all of them have fired in spots this year... Hopefully, they will all be firing Friday night. Hard to make a prediction because we don't know which team will show up or what quarter they'll arrive if they do... Maybe we need a Charter Bus... Maybe that's the problem... (Just kidding... I kind of like the short stumpy yellow busses...) I'm sure Cunningham will have a good night but I like our chances with the multiple weapons. No score prediction, at least not yet... Looking forward to the game Friday night... By the way Gibson County you've been in our prayers this year. I hope your boys and all your students and families are healing well from the loss of one of your young men. I just can't imagine how difficult that has been for everyone but I'm sure it has put football in its proper perspective. We talk smack and worry and fret about this game too much I'm sure and often lose sight of what it is all about.
  20. There is no doubt that you mentioned the names of some studs there... I'm a parent of one of the Wide Receivers at JCS... Griggs was as advertised... No. 14 was a jitterbug and fast as lightning... but talking about under the radar---one of the most versatile and athletic high school players I've ever seen was Harrison Moore. He was absolutely everywhere... Does the boy ever come out of the game. Not only was he elusive and intelligent at quarterback but on defense he was unbelievable... He made three touchdown saving tackles. One of them a huge hit at the goal line on 4th and goal... It was a beautiful pass and looked like a beautiful catch... BAM! Number 10... Another receiver is heading down the sidelines, he's cut the corner---he's gone--bam here comes 10 throwing his whole heart, soul, mind and strength---not to mention his body and making the stop! JCS quarterback has cut the corner and he's going for six but wait, what is that coming from the other side? Number 10! Yes, you guys were bigger and faster but when our boys had nightmares friday night it was visions of number 10 that haunted them! I didn't even mention the return of the Opening Kickoff and the drive stopping, diving, "sportscenter" worthy interception on the first drive JCS had. On the film I even saw him make some stops on special teams! I ask again, did he ever come out of the game? You'd think he'd need a breather. Anyway, we were all impressed... We look forward to following Westview the rest of the season, especially Moore. He's a fan and a coach's dream. About the prediction... I'm not going to make one. Henry County sounds like a tall order! I believe Westview will be ready but so will Henry County. Even if Westview loses it is not going to have an impact on where they are going this year... (Unless they suffer some injuries...) I had to go out of town so this is the first day I've been back to review everything. Sorry to get on the Henry County-Westview thread but I just wanted to get on an active one and say good luck Chargers! We are rooting for you as much as a Region Opponent can... You've already beat us so you might as well win the rest of your games... Oh, yeah, one more thing, sorry this is so long... The sportsmanship of your team and coaches is also incredible. Thanks for showing JCS respect... What I was most impressed with on the night was when my son was at our fence talking with me and some of his friends after the game, some of your coaches took the time to come over and encourage him about the game, his ability, and his potential future. I tell you it is one thing to hear that from your coaches but from the opposing coaches---That's Huge! Good Men... Good Team.... Good Luck... From JCS...
  21. The time is finally here! FOR THE 3! (FOR GOD! FOR TEAM! FOR EXCELLENCE!) GO EAGLES!!!
  22. Touch?©!!! We owe our State Championship last year to you Southside! That 55-7 shellacking turned our season around and knocked some sense into us. Strength comes through adversity and boy was that some adversity. Go Hawks! Glad we aren't playing you this year. Hope you have a great year!
  23. 35-10--- It's getting better, it started out at 35-7. I'm sure no one is more excited about JCS moving to 2-A than Huntington. (Actually they have so much tradition and are so competitive that they probably don't like it) They beat Milan and they are going to have a tussle with Camden but otherwise they won't face the challenges week in and week out in the new region. (No disrespect intended toward Region 7) No doubt that Region 8-2A is the SEC of 2-A football in Tennessee. At least in College ball the new kid moving up gets to go to the Mountain West or Conference USA... but JCS had to end up in the SEC the first year. That ain't right... Speaking of SEC.... GO VOLS... Maybe Westview can loan Tennessee some of their defensive players Saturday. Maybe they can work a trade. I think JCS can move better against the Big Orange defense than Westview.
