  1. What are the marquee match-ups? Any results yet?
  2. tick tock, tick tock, tick tock, HORN, tick tock, tick tock, tick tock... I agree-always a great match. Whether its in "the Pit" or the Big Red's gym, Mid-state fans are in for a treat. I expect this to be a wild one. I hope I can make it over to Ryan. From the mtach-ups, the edge goes to MBA. But grappling, not match ups, wins matches. Look to the lesser-knowns to weigh heavily in the outcome. Four years ago, Mike Atwood (FRHS) wrestled a great match to pull off a major upset as the Irish beat the Big Red in the Pit. MBA's Alex Hall accomplished a similar feat a year or two later in the Region Duals. I bet we'll see some new names star in this year's contest.
  3. Maybe we should let ticking...I mean...sleeping dogs lie. Naaaaah!
  4. TD42, I too am interested to hear how Patrick is doing. After having seem him wrestle on several occasions, I know he is in a great position to exert a lot of leadership up there. I'll look forward to seeing how Whitt and William do on Nov. 5
  5. Is this the year the Purple Wave leaps to the forefront of DII? Can they jump over MBA and ND? I thought they lost a lot of seniors last year? Who do they have besides Marable and Baucke? Do they have FR on their schedule? They may catch MBA at the Kenwood Klassic and Ryan later in the season. Will be interesting to see how they do. I understand that MBA and Ryan are younger this year. ND was pretty tough though last year. What's the word out of Memphis about CBHS?
  6. What makes you think they are overrated? They have several state placers. Their younger wrestlers will surprise a lot of people. I'm struggling to think of holes in their line-up. 103? HWT? 215? Maybe someone closer to their program can fill in the details. The Konz, Felix, and Ortiz brothers will win a lot of matches. Kirn and Heacock are strong. Bond Davis has a great shot to win state. I just don't see what you're talking about.
  7. 2-0 is an impressive score against an NCAA champ. Sounds like Patrick really worked hard in the off-season to get to that level. It will be interesting to see how he fares over the course of the year. He's begun well.
  8. Notre Dame defeated MBA's team last year at the state duals. Word is; they wrestled their JV...and they did. I'd still like to know why...not chivalrous. irishdad: it's luck, not lock. Report to your English teacher...now! ijtx: Wow. Piling on poor Irish dad. That's chivalrous? Given your views, why don't you contact the MBA coach and report back to all of us. Then we can put this all to rest and move on.
  9. Let's let sleeping dogs lie. No need to beat up Irish dad. 'Nuff said and let's move on. Texas23: Bill Buckner? That was beautiful!
  10. I saw many displays of classy behavior. DI fans DID cheer for Leen and Scott's victories. DII fans cheered those great matches in the DI finals. Lots of fans cheered for the game effort the MBA kid put up against Scott. By their clapping, the fans in the arena tried to pick up Holliman after his double OT loss against West. Except for the chair-throwing incident and the two coaches getting flagrant misconducts in the finals, I witnessed a great deal of class. I hope all of the coaches, fans, and wrestlers realize that the next generation of wrestlers always attend this event. Everyone needs to model the highest degree of sportsmanship for those young kids. My respect to all of those schools, coaches, and wrestlers who did.
  11. Coach Moorman-I respect and admire your candor on this issue. I think the bleacher-bound zebras could learn alot from your integrity and character. I saw my share of mistakes at the tournament. They will happen at every tournament. "Going to the tape" has no place in our sport. I realize the refs are not equal-there were clearly a few officials who did their job, as head or assistant, better than others. That's the nature of the beast. By the same token, I saw some strong officiating as well. Congratulations to all of the coaches and wrestlers for a great tournament.
  12. Johnson defeated Sherbakoff, so he qualifies for separation from him and placement above him. He cannot be placed above the other two, because he did not defeat them head to head. Same situation at 119.
  13. Now that the brackets are set, anyone want to venture any guesses at possible upsets (mild or strong) at the tournament this weekend. While I doubt anyone would pick an upset at DI 125 (James) or DII 135 (Leen), do you think that there are 2 seeds and below who will come out on top? What could be the biggest upset out there?
  14. Didn't Baucom get the #1 seed? He didn't face Bullard in the final, did he?
  15. Best, I respect that viewpoint but have to disagree. The Individual Tournament is certainly meant for each kid to shine and go as far as his skills and desire can take him. However, I am sure each coach weighs what is best for his team. He'll want to put his best line-up on the mat in order to win the whole tournament. I think McCallie has a better shot to with the tournament with Smith at 140. Possibly 5 state champs with him there. Placewinners at 119, 125, 171, 189, 215 for sure. Maybe even 112 and 160?
  16. usfjim-my understanding of the above question is as follows: If the referee considers the actions of the coach to be unsportsmanlike conduct, no warning is necessary or required. Same goes for flagrant misconduct. The only time a warning is given is for misconduct. These definitions are on the NFHS website/rulebook.
  17. If you go by victories over the other team, shouldn't you go with: 6. Notre Dame 7. MBA 8. Franklin 9. CBHS 10 Clarksville
  18. Thank you. Good luck to the BT in two weeks. DII should have an interesting race at the top.
  19. W, You stated that you are neutral, but your post belies your true intentions. You give an unqualified defense of Coach Connell with backhand slams against Coaches Simpson and Logsdon. I think all three coaches are among the greats in the state. And I wouldn't criticize Coach Connell to promote the other two.
  20. papbear, Thanks for providing some finite evidence to support your views. I think the whole misunderstanding about "Scholarships" vs. financial aid rests on a lack of knowledge about the real issues involved.
  21. KD, I think you may not understand what happens with need-based scholarships. All need-based scholarships are run through the same service in Princeton that determines need for college students. Students can only get those scholarships based upon what this outside source, not the secondary school, states. If a kid cannot qualify for a certain amount of aid, and gets more from the secondary school, he/she can be ruled ineligible. I'm not saying the system is perfect. But I disagree that anything is getting "labeled" need-based or diversity promotion and is in reality an athletic schoalrship. Do you have some tangible evidence to support your implication?
  22. Is the scholarship for athletics? Many private schools give need-based scholarships. Others give them to promote diversity. Others give grants (often full or partial rides) to faculty kids so they can attract the best teachers. I've seen this done in a variety of states.
