  1. Exactly Tribefan what does this bassman mean? I have my opinion on this one. The Owls will blitz, blitz, blitz all night and then blitz again; there will be more pressure in the mcminn backfield then they can handle. McMinn better be able to throw and catch quickly if they cant then it will become a long evening for us cherokee fans. If I were placing a line on this one I would say ooltewah by 14. Maybe lady luck will shine on the cherokees this year as she did on the owls last year when mcminn got screwed by the refs on the trick play. Dont count on the refs to help mcminn in anyway the chatt. refs are usually not that good and we have gooten the shaft more then once at the nest. I beleive it was in 1999 when ooltewah beat mcminn for the first time in a while on a 2 point conversion and only had 6 players on the line of scrimmage. Try and keep it close mcminn and maybe you can steal one from the owls
  2. There again getaclue I am not agreeing with you on this one. Trace was a great tail back @ McMinn and will do a good job at UT Martin but Martin is not a D1 school. Now that is not to say he couldnt play D1 beacuse I thought alot of schools missed the boat on Trace. Lets get back to the thread. Opinions on this years team?
  3. Getaclue I dont know that I agree with your statement. Cy is a good athlete and is capable of being a solid player I was just surprised that Bo would throw around the D1 comment before he has proven himself. To be honest about the current players Kimpson and Stansell are more legitimate D1 possibilities then anyone but I suppose time will tell.
  4. So what does the 2008 season hold in store for the cherokees? This is how this McMinn fan thinks things will turnout The defense should be the best part of this team with Kimpson having added 30 lbs. to his already athletic frame he will be someone that all offensive coordinators will have to respect. The linebakers are solid and will fill the hole but they must improve on there lateral movements if they intend to stop the backs in Region 2 5A. The secondary should be solid but has shown they will give up the deep ball a few times during the pre-season. But dont come across the middel and expect to walk away because these DB's will unload. On offense the wide outs are play makers and the back field is capable of quality runs and has shown they are tough hard runners. The offensive line in my opinion is going to be the key to this teams success as they are undersized compared to other lines in the region. Coach Cagle has been quoted in several publications that Ables (QB) is a possible D1 prospect. He is an impressive looking player as he stands 6'2" and is 210 but this is his first year as the starting QB so we dont really know what he will do. Yes the potential is there but come on coach dont say a kid is a D1 prospect when he has only taken a handful of snapes as a varisty player. The special teams is in good hands with 2007 all state punter/kicker Stephen Stansell handling those responbilities and he has also been selected to the 2008 pre-season all state team. He is defently a game changer and a solid weapon for the cherokees. Josh Simpson should do most of the punt/kick returns he has good speed and has a nack to find the open lanes. I see the cherokees going 7-3 and qualifying for the playoffs. They will lose to Ooltewah, Farragut on the road and Oak Ridge at home. They will have good wins at Cleveland and William Blount and will also beat a good 4A team in Rhea Co. Good luck cherokees I hope you prove me wrong and win them all.
  5. I am over this darn he said she said. The bottom line is that Brent is no longer a member of the coaching staff and life goes on.
  6. This is absurd.....My opinion is that there is a bit too much family involved in the whole deal at McMinn. You have Bo has the head coach, his step sister as a guidance counsler and mom of the starting QB, his mom Donna as a school board member and trying to captain the ship. If you read the article in the paper all of the comments were very standard and as if they all had agreed to a certain story. I smell a big stinking rat!! Burroughs (new principal) needs to step in and get to the bottom of the problem and put Bo in his place. By the way can Bo actually fire an assistant or does that have to come from the administration? Brent has tenure so they better have there ducks in a row if they start down that road. This is a bad deal all the way around and the players are the ones to suffer the most......come on Bo check your ego and stick to coaching football. Mullinax could have gotten away with this but Bo is no Mullinax!!
  7. Not so fast my friend>>>>McMinn is tallented and will come to the "SHIP" with alot of confidence but at the same time they are aware that the level of competition has been raised a notch especially when you are playing OR. I believe that OR is the better team on paper but I guess that is why we play the games. I also beleive McMinn is a good football team but not good enough to beat OR at OR. OR 31 McMinn 10
  8. So has anything happened to the OR coach in reference to the post game issue? Remember OR you have a pretty good McMinn team coming to town. You better focus on the tribe and not Clinton
  9. Why would you want to go for the city thing again when it sounds like your kids are in the county system? Mr. Powers needs to retire and let somebody else try and that whole thing with the crooks at the city council sounds like a mess to me and they are asking the public to vote for a tax increase. I see the group that is againist the tax is a bunch of liberals so I do not know what to do.Any ideas since you have school aged kids I work swing shift so I get to church about once or twice a month at east athens baptist
  10. Tribefan that looks like the guy that ran for the county school board a while back. bhhsvols do you follow the tribe football team? And by the way tribefan please check your spelling it makes us cherokee fans look bad.
  11. I say Ooltewah wins this one because McMinn willl not be abel to score enough points to keep up with the high powered offense that the owls have. Not to mention I don't know if McMinn can slow Ooltewah down when they are on offense. As much as i would like to see the cherokees win this one I say: Ooltewah 42 McMinn 17
  12. I say McMinn wins this one by a bunch: McMinn 35 WV 7
  13. I say McMinn will finish anywhere from 3rd-6th in the region depending on how well the new "shuck and duck" offense works. They have good athletes at the skilled positions but they lack depth on the lines which could be a problem as the year progresses. New Coach + New Offense = ??????????????????????
  14. There are some big question marks for this region...... 1) Ooltewah 2) Oak Ridge 3) Farragut 4) McMinn / William Blount Ooltewah is loaded with tallent...... Oak Ridge is well they are Oak Ridge...... Farragut could finish anywhere from 2-5 depending on if they can catch and throw the ball to open the running.... McMinn is a huge ??......they have a new coach with a new offense and alot of tallent William Blount is a very dangerous team that could beat anybody anywhere any time....as long as Meadows does not make bone head calls like he made in the McMinn game last year with the win in there pocket..... Top to bottom region is down a bit from years past but still will produce a quality champion that should make a run at a State Championship......
  15. Whistle 76 if Davis is considered such a "great coach" then why he is selling real estate in Cleveland? How can one consider this a mistake? I mean the guy has not coached the first day at McMinn and you are already critizing him. Obviously you don't know Bo! Good luck Bo and welcome home!!! Finally someone like Mullinax is directing this program someone who will not let the players cuss them and throw there helmets when they come off of the field finally someone who has a hair on their a_ _ and will let the parents know who is in charge finally we have a leader who will demand and recieve the players best effort finally someone who knows how to win!
  16. The word is that Bo has gotten the job and the press release will hit the papers today......This makes for alot of speculation seeing what position his mother holds but hey it also makes for a great story with his legacy. Would it not make for a great story if he came in here and was successful......I can see it know.......Grandson of McMinn legend "Ace" Adams returns to lead McMinn. Good luck Bo!!!!!
  17. No doubt that Haynie and Grubb have not done a good job of hiring a coach, besides Hutchins being hired they have screwed the pooch on the rest of them. For example Daugherty 13-17 over three seasons as the football coach, Quirk is hired after being ran off from McMinn Central as their girls basketball coach but we hire him @ McMinn and then he resigns after 3 miserable seasons. I got a bit of insider information yesterday that Grubb will not hire somebody that has been @ McMInn and left and wants to come back. if that is the case then Bennett does not have a good chance. The more and more I talk to different people the more I keep hearing Cagle is going to be the next coach. Understand this that Cagle's grandfarther J.B. "Ace" Adams was the AD @ McMinn when Grubb was hired as the head football coach and Bo's mother is on the current McMinn Co. school board.....I mean come on who do you think Haynie and Grubb are going to hire? I just hope we have a coach by this fall!!!
  18. Realizing who is making the decision....I would not hesitate to say maybe by October 1st......
  19. Grubb changed things on us....I think they are making sure they have all of there ducks in a row. They have some teachers that are retiring in the system so they are attempting to find the best coach while @ the same time they want to have a teaching spot. Sorry for the bad info. I just went off of what my inside source told me..... Surely we will have a coach in place by May 1st????? On another note there was another inquiry about the job from Virginia.....The guys name was Phil Robbins who lived here in Athens as a child when his dad was a methodist minister.....he won multiple state championships in Virginia and called to inquire about the job and was not given the time of day. Knowing the administration @ MCHS they probably did not have a clue who he was and blew him off.
  20. Press conference to announce new head coach will be Monday....
  21. I hear that Zeller the former head coach @ Greenville had a good inerview and is being considered. Gooden and Cagle while they are good young coaches are not in the running. Gooden was given an interview because he is on the current staff. Cagle was given an interview because his grandfarther J.B. "Ace" Adams was a legend here in McMinn County as a former coach and athlete and his mother is on the current McMinn Co. school board. The decision comes down to Bennett, Smith or Zeller.....So which one does Grubb and Haney pick? I say Bennett and I will tell you why..... He has strong family ties with his wife being an elementary school teacher in the county system and her uncle being a principal @ that same school.....her family is very well respected and liked in the community and Bennett would be the coach @ McMinn for as long as he wanted to be. Yes, Smith and Zeller have a good resume but long time relationships are hard to beat and Grubb is a native McMinn boy and has known Bennett and his extended family for a long time. That is why I say McMinn hires Bennett because there is such a long relationship there and the administration knows exactly what they are getting. But who knows I have been mistaken before.....
  22. Has Smith ever been a head coach? I was under the impression that he was a head coach several years ago and was not successful. Is this a fact? The local supporters do not know anything about Smith....so what is his history besides what has been posted above. Thanks for any information that we can get....
  23. I can assure you that we will be selecting a coach first then a teacher. I realize this is not the politically correct thing to say but we need a coach that will fill the stands and as everyone knows @ McMinn football funds all sports except for basketball. They must find the very best coach and then we can find a place for him to fulfill his teaching duties. I also have an opinion about the vacany of the girls basketball coach....in my opinion I say if the school hires a coach and he/she quites his/her coaching job within the first 5 years (not being fired) that they also must resign their teaching position. This should apply to all coahing positions because before you realize it you will have a faculty made up of coaches and not educators. But who knows @ McMInn they always seem to do the opposite of what you think they might do. I say Bennett gets the job.....great person....good coach.....and he will be here for a long time.....
  24. I don't think Daugherty will be teaching at McMinn after this year.....My bet is that he moves closer to Knoxville
