  1. Switching gears a little.... when should a coach decide to hang it up? I know of one that has been around... lets say 5-10 years that's won about 40% of their games. Should they say to themselves ok obviously I cant get it done and resign or wait till the administration steps in assuming the administration steps in and makes a change? Now realize the talent pool is pretty young but the future looks good for the next 4-5 years as far as talent goes.
  2. Alright children lets get back to the topic at hand and that is tonights game between McMinn and Ooltewah.
  3. 89charger you cant comment on this topic until your chargers win a game. BTW that was 410 days ago!
  4. Not so fast my friend! On paper Farragut might look like the better team but if McMinn can get there playmakers into space and slow down the powerful running attack of Farragut then the Cherokees can win. I think the margain of victory is less than 7, just dont know which way as of today.
  5. Tough game for the cherokees this week againist a team that McMinn teams of the past have not had much success with. Will McMinn excute like they did in the second half of the McCallie and Rhea Co. game or do they revert back to the team that played the first half of both of those games? Typically Farragut has good size, pass blocks well and mixes it up to keep the opponent from keying on one demention of there attack. If McMinn stays out of the 3rd and long downs and has success running the ball then I like the Cherokees, if they dont and cant stop the running attack of Farragut then it could be a long evening for McMinn.
  6. They might have support but they will need more than that to beat McMinn. I saw Rhea play againist Powell and Rhea got there #*# handed to them. Of course McMinn didnt exactly set the woods on fire last week againist McCallie, but they did rebound in the second half and showed they have the ability to play good solid football. I believe McMinn will snap out of this funk of making the little mistakes game after game going back to last year and lay the smackth down on the golden eagles. Probably off to a fast start with plays being made at a rapid pace then the action slows down in the third then more action in the fourth. BTW dont be surprised with a package set up for #5 or #7 tonight?????????
  7. The outcome of this game will depend on which McMinn team shows up. The team that McCallie scored 49 on in the first half or the team that beat McCallie in the second half of last weeks game. I would like to see a bit more misdirection plays from the cherokees and maybe some option. They have to do something to slow down the opposing defense. McMinn has play makers at the skilled positions but they must get them the ball in space and give them an opportunity to make plays.
  8. This game has provided many teachable moments to the team for coach Cagle and his staff. In my few years of watching McMinn play that was by far the worst excuse for a defense that I have seen. It got better in the second half when the coaching staff made some halftime adjustments but 49 points in the first half is not acceptable by any standards. The defensive line was getting pushed around like they were a bunch of elementary age kids not to mention the absence of the linebacking group. My question is why did it take the coaching staff until the 3rd quarter to get into the 5 man front? I know this team has to be better than what it showed in the first 24 minutes in Chattanooga they showed that in the final 24 minutes. Come on Cherokees lets wake up and not only play better but play smarter.
  9. From what I saw Friday night in Athens the offensive line for McMinn is the weak link. The defense is small but quick. One thing for certain is McMinn has some play makers if they can get the ball in there hands. One thing that would be a priority would be that #5 and #7 would play a large role in whatever type of game plan I had as the head coach.
  10. McMinn travels to Chattanooga to play McCallie. Who wins and why?
  11. i think mcminn will contain the lindsey kids from bradley and beat the bears bad i also think masingale will start and play the entire game as this one will be over early. bradley has been lucky the last few weeks and yes they are improved but still are not a very good football team. mcminn 42 bradley 7
  12. Lets focus on the game and not a particular coach and his issues with the administrators. From what I have seen OR is still OR>>>>typical size and speed of past OR teams that McMinn has played. I still believe the biggest "if" for McMinn is if the O line can slow down the pressure that OR will likely bring. If they can then they have a good chance to move the ball if they cant then it will be a long evening for #10 Ables.
  13. How did he get hurt? Where is the injury? Is this the kid that committed to MTSU?
  14. Apparently a few McMinn players got into some trouble yesterday evening and will either sit out some of this game or wont play at all. Not sure at this time what players were involved. Is the player from Rhea Co. that has been hurt with a elbow or arm injury going to play tonight? The season just keeps better and better for the cherokees
  15. Out of respect to your head coach Benny Monroe I say "B Gun" you know "B" for Benny
  16. Yes you know "T" for "Tevin" Just a thought the 3 teams McMinn has lost to are a combined 12-0 and all are ranked in the AP poll in there respective class. Ooltewah pretty much destroyed McMinn, but the cherokees had plenty of chances againist Cleveland and Farragut and should not be overlooked. McMinn still has a good chance to finish 3rd or 4th in Region 2 5A. More then likely they have lost to the first and second place teams in the region and even if they lose to OR and beat WB, SD, Heritage and Bradley they finish 4th so all is not lost.
  17. Dont be surprised if McMinn doesnt have a few tricks up there sleves for the golden eagles. I say Cagle gets his manual out and installs the "T Gun" where Tevin McDermitt is at QB for a few snaps. Maybe there might be some Wing T action as well?
  18. By no means did I intend to imply that you can quit multiple times and return to the team without some discipline. I say you first go to the team and get there approval then if they approve make the two players address the team as a whole and ask to rejoin. Then if that passes then it is on to the "Oklahoma Drill" where they get the living he_ _ beat out of them. Then maybe a short essay about what the word team means to me. But you cant just give up on a kid, you might be the only thing in his life that teaches him discipline and teaches him loyalty to something. We must all remember we never know what kind of a home life the kids are coming from and what they have experienced so if a coach gives up on them that might be just like everyone else in there lives. I am not saying this is the situation with these two particular players but as coaches you need to be conscious of these things.
  19. It is true that Kimpson and Jackson have quit the team as it was reported in the DPA yesterday. I suppose I have a different opinion about that, I partly blame Bo for the letting those young men take the easy way out and quit. Sure times are tough and emotions are running high but Bo is an educator first and then a coach and he has a commitment to those young men to challenge them. Several times when I was playing players wanted to quit or tried to quite and coach Mullinax would turn it around and challenge them to step up and be a man. Very few times did a player quit and usually that player improved there attitude and became a leader on the team. Remeber coaches you are setting an example for these young men and if you take the easy way out that has a direct impact on them and does nothing to build there character. Check your ego at the door and get those young men back on that team and challenge them into being a man. They will respect you for it years down the road.
  20. If mcminn fans thought last week againist ooltewah was UGLY I hate to ask what they thought about last night againist cleveland. Honestly mcminn dominated the game from the second quarter to the end of the game but when your starting QB throws it to the other team 4 times + 2 fumbles it is difficult to beat a nerf league team. Instead of Tipton being clevelands player of the game they should have given it to the QB at mcminn. He panics and makes terrible throws and he will not check down to his 2nd or 3rd option. He gets locked in on his primary target and either throws it to him every time or gets a 10 yd. sack. Remember kid you are NO Devon Johnson throw the ball away and live for another play. This season is turning into a train wreck with two very dissapointing losses to begin the season then mcminn goes to #1 in 5A farragut next week they more then likely go 1-3 after the first 4 games. McMinn outgains cleveland in total yardage and has 19 first downs compared to 11 by cleveland and losses 21-0, apparently there is no discipline on this team. By the way 11 penalities for 90 yds
  21. Has Tipton & Scotten not been @ Cleveland for like 6 years? Do they actually still go to school there or are they sophmores @ Lee? If mcminn does not improve the offensive line then they are looking straight down the barrell of a 3 or 4 win season because you know cleveland has alot of speed and size and Farragut is huge then you have oak ridge and apparently an improved soddy team that always has good size. I dont know about the outcome of this game. Can mcminn block cleveland and can they improve over last weeks performance? Will cleveland use there typical big play offense to burn the cherokees once again and can the blue raiders defend the pass? Which ever team can limit the turnovers and mistakes will win this one I just hope it is the cherokees.
  22. That was awful!!!! McMinn could not block #36 all night we made him look like a NFL Hall of Fame inductee. As usual Benny comes up with a great idea to get into the Wing T and the owls ran it straight down our throat. Ooltewah was to big and to dominate for the cherokees on this night. Bassmanbruno just so you now Stansell averaged 43 yards punting for McMinn which is not all that bad. Again very tallented Ooltewah team it would have been nice if McMinn would have showed up
