I think its unfair for smaller teams...because if there are only one or two really good athletes on a team it limits them from getting as many points possible for their team.

it's a huge disadvantage for any team, especially the smaller teams. i've seen kids compete in 2 or 3 field events and be good enough to place, yet still be athletic and strong enough to come back and run 3 events, open and/or relays. a small local school had a girl several years ago that did the LJ, HJ, TJ, discus and shot then ran the 4x100, 100 and 200. now she would have only been allowed half the events. she was that good and accounted for 95 % of her schools points but were competing with larger AAA schools. on the plus side, some who don't do field events can get in an extra running event in small meets for speed work.

Although the new rule is potentially benefiting the athletes and the teams by bringing team unity so that others can fill empty shoes this year, it is hard on the runners who have competed in multiple events in the past and now have to narrow it down to only 4. The other problem is that those who compete in multi-events can only do 4 events per meet leading up to regions and state, not allowing them to experience what it is like doing 5 events in one day which they will have to do for the pentathlon and decathlon (2 days of 5 events). If the TSSAA insists on limiting events, I wish they would take into consideration those who will have to compete in more than the current limit for multi-events. It also seems unfair for those athletes who can excel in more than 4 events but are limited in their talent.
