Covington State Champs ?

Just because you have one good pitcher does not mean you should win your region. I may be wrong - but the talent Taylor Bennett had when he was playing is no where near as talented as the guys playing now. This team right now should win at least one state championship maybe even two. I still still Geno is a bad coach. He WILL NOT be here for more the 3 more years. Wait til these guys playing right now are gone. Let's see how good a coach he is then!!! Geno leaving Covinton would be the best thing for Covington High School. Geno is running everyone away from the Covington Baseball program, whether you want to believe it or not!!!

I would like to say that I am a supporter of Covington Baseball and of the coaching staff. I have been watching baseball here for a long time and I think that it is great what the coaches and players have accomplished up to this point. I think that it is very unfair to make a statement that CHS baseball would be better off without Coach Miller. I was at the baseball game tuesday night against Ripley and the place was packed. The support has not changed and Coach we appreciate what you do. I do not think it is fair to start comparing coaches. Coach Pavatte was a good coach while he was here and still is and Coach Miller has done a great job taking over. Coach Miller and his staff need to be commended on the job your doing and I know a lot of people that hope you are here for a very long time.

I played for Coach Miller when he was an assistant at Munford. As far as coaching, he is very knowledgeable and I enjoyed playing for him. As far as what he has done at Covington, I don't know much other than he has had some success. I'm in middle TN now so I don't see as much baseball down there. My step-brother played on the 98 Charger team and they were very talented, probably more talented than the 99 state championship team, they just didn't get the job done. I think Coach Pavette was a great coach, but he wasn't exactly loved by everyone in Covington either. It's very hard to please everyone no matter where you are, especially in Covington. I'll be interested to see what happens in the next few years, though.

Covington does have a great team this year. But I do have to disagree with the statement about this team being the best ever at Covington. The 1998 and 1999, I think were better teams. Covington in 1999 won the state championship. Winning their last 24 games straight. That year Covington started 2-5 (first five losses- 3 to Germantown, 1 to Houston, and 1 to Murfreesboro Oakland) all AAA schools. Covington finished 31-7. Not too bad if you ask me. The 1998 team was probally better talent wise, but they failed to win, when they needed too.

 

This years Covington team probally ranks 2nd or 3rd all time in Covington Baseball. Behind the 99' State Champion team. The difference between the 99' and 05' teams is Coaching. In 99' Covington had one of the best coaches around (Allen Pavatte- Now at Briarcrest Christian). Covington's coach this year is not liked by many people in town from what I hear. I do not think he is preparing these young guys for a state title run with the weak schedule their playing. Hopefully I'm wrong. I would like to see another State Championship Banner hanging in the shcool.

 

Good luck Covington the rest of the way this year. And sorry to hear about y'all miss tieing the record for consecutive wins (24) by 1 game. (23-1)

Actually we have a great coach! coach miller is one of the hardest working coaches i have ever had the privlege to play for. he scouts every team we play he knows who does what, what pitches they throw the most and when, who hits ,and what to do to stop them from hitting. he prepares us for every aspect of the game. he is very knowledgeable and with his coaching i think we will go just as far as the 99 team and finish with a better record than they did! not to say coach pivett wasnt a good coach but to down the coach that has led covington to one of the best starts in history isnt too smart. i think he is a very good coach and hope that he stays here b.c i know that a lot of people do like him and i am one of those people b.c he doesnt just teach baseball he teaches life lessons.
