3-4 D

With everything dropping in stages how long before a high school team is using the 3-4. Most D's I've seen are the 5-0 and 4-3. Just wondering if anyone uses the 3-4 and puts 4 fast LB's on the field verses some slower d-line. If your team uses it how successful is your team.

My reference of a 5-0 is 5 D-Lineman with 2 LB's I don't know what 5-0 is in east TN but in the rest of the world of football that is what it is. Most 3-4's have 3 down linemen and 4 lb's so this can't be the case. 2 dt and a ng, 5-0 is 2 de, 2 dt, and a ng...4-3 uses 2 de and 2 dt.

Jefferson Co is now running the 3-4 and was very successful with it last year. Coach Smoot's starting unit pitched 6 shutouts, didn`t allow a TD at home until the last home game of the season, and held the high scoring DB offense to just 7pts (which came off a turnover by the offense).

Does anyone run a 3-4 like the pros do. I've always classified the 5-0 as 5 Defensive Linemen and 2 linebackers. Maybe it should be refered to as the 5-2 I don't know. but anyways. I was wondering if the NFL version of 3-4 where 3 Down linemen and 4 LB's are being used in TN high schools. If you are using this hybrid of 50 are you successful with it. My question wasn't to show that I'm an idiot I just wanted to know what defense's were being used across the state. Guru be careful with the name calling on this site. Just because the nomenclature is different doesn't infer lack of intelligence.

JC4life thanks for the info that is what I was looking for.

not exactly... MBA, BA and McCallie all run variations of the 3-4. The 3-4 can be the 50, but that's not always the case. If you change some alignments then the 50 suddenly can become something else and still be a 3-4. 50 means you have a head-up nose, 2 5s (or 4s), 2 d ends and 2 lbs. You could make it a shade, a 3, and a 5 (to either direction), though... and that's not a true 50. MBA BA and McCallie all do that im pretty sure.

    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
    • You really mean the Price twin boys and Lyin Larry.
